sgares: "dignitas are my favourites"

We caught up with Cloud9's Sean "sgares" Gares, who talked to us about the team's struggles at DreamHack Winter 2014, as well as their run of group stage exits, his opinion on other groups' results and predictions for playoffs.

Cloud9's run of group stage exits has been prolonged after losses to both HellRaisers and fnatic, which made it a third time in a row after FACEIT Finals and ESWC 2014.

The team's in-game leader, Sean "seang@res" Gares, gave us his input on what he thought went wrong for them here at DreamHack. He went on to talk about a lot of different topics, including coaching in CS:GO, Bravado and his expectations for the remainder of the tournament.

We still have two more interviews coming from day one at DreamHack Winter 2014, first of which is going to be Mikail "Maikelele" Bill who sat down with us before facing ESC, followed up by Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovács after qualifying for playoffs.

its so funny only muricans always say how they were winning scrims, when nobody fking cares about the score and most teams actually try to practice instead of going for the win.

actually c9 goes for strats and practice too.. what they meant is that they were able to hit shots and compete fairly easily vs them.

The thing is, I don't see a better mix of players than cloud9 at the moment. iBP DaZeD version was the only team that could match up c9. Obviously they c9 wouldn't be picking either DaZeD or steel. So yeah, they should stick together, but this must be so hard after failing 3 times in a row :-(. I love the guys though, even semphis!

A few of them just seem to be way off their game, mainly Hiko and shroud, and was n0thing before he got back into his groove a bit. C9 basically turned into what iBP was.

What's really costing their players is that loose style they have. If your players aren't super hot, they will have a hard time winning games. But this is really hard for a team to entirely change your playstyle :-(.

As much as I liked sgares, he sounds like such a sore loser. No grace in fnatic defeat, makes excuses, doesn't acknowledge they played well, doesn't think they can win the tournament(even though fnatic rekt them HARD).

Well, it's pretty obvious you're implying that. Bottom line is that c9 got buttraped by fnatic at a LAN major where there's no chance to hack. And sgares thinks "we didn't lose many rounds, really, we lost the wrong rounds". Well, that's just how CS works. He puts Na'Vi and NiP in the 3rd wave of teams with a possibility to win DHW, but doesn't mention fnatic who have been winning every tournament and had just destroyed them.

So? Everyone has his opinion, maybe he just thinks that since fnatic struggled against HR, they won't be able to make it to the finish line. It's not because you were beaten by someone that you have to necessarily say that they'll win the tournament. However, it's true that this whole interview felt like he was trying to justify their defeats.

Hiko has already confirmed that "a couple of his teammates" think that flusha cheats. Hiko and n0thing have said they think flusha is clean. The 2 people are allegedly sem and sgares. That perfectly plays into his saltiness and and bias.

never once did i say fnatic sucks without cheats or anything like that. anyone but a blind fanboy would say flusha cheated. hes obviously a great player even without the cheats, because its not like he can use it all the time it would just be way too obvious. But he does use it in key moments like that 1v2 against na`vi in cologne that won them nuke. watch it if you dont believe me, blatant two aimlocks to locate the last two players

Stop using words like "blatant", "obvious", "for sure" when nothing has been proven yet. Majority of pro scene? Only few pros have expressed their doubts regards of Flusha cheating, MOST of the pro scene are waiting for the proof before badmouthing.

A VAC ban isnt proof to me if thats what you meant. I have more "proof" that flusha cheated than i have on KQLY. We still dont know anything about KQLYs ban or if he even cheated. Obviously he admitted to it but if he could have pulled the i`m innocent card.

Sure, fnatic are "obviously" cheating at DreamHack. At this point, with these many precautions and checks, if they are STILL cheating then they almost deserve that 100k for just being that fucking brilliant.

Yup, that's how the community sounds like, right now. I was 75% convinced that flusha was cheating, but the team's performance has looked solid. Sure, they lost to HR, but it was an incredibly close game and it had more to do with HR being total beasts and playing good CS than fnatic being bad.

I feel like with the fnatic defeat, sean's annoyed that c9 wasn't allowed to play the way that the wanted to, fnatic controlled the pace of play throughout the whole game, and it's tough to combat their plays.

I think the boot camp may have given other teams too much insight into Cloud9. Their advantage always seems to have been the fact that other teams never really knew what they would do.
