Virtus.pro gets $100m+ investment

USM Holdings has announced that it is making an investment of upwards of $100 million in Virtus.pro.

Founded by Alisher Usmanov, a 62-year-old Russian business magnate, USM Holdings is an investor in a variety of companies across several industries, from metals and mining to telecoms and internet.

The company is now looking to add to its impressive portfolio by making a big investment in Virtus.pro - one of the biggest esports organisations based in Russia - that could exceed the $100 million mark.

Virtus.pro's organisation to receive a major investment

The investment will be used by Virtus.pro to launch new tournaments, support new games, create media channels and build new esports arenas, says Anton Cherepennikov, co-owner of the Russian organisation.

"E-sports are a unique proposition, uniting the sports, media and the internet industries," says Ivan Streshinsky, a member of USM Holdings' board.

"It is a fast-growing market, which has already generated huge interest around the world and Virtus.pro is the leader in the e-sports industry in Russia.

"I am confident that the support from USM will spur the company’s further development and enable it to take its projects to a whole new level."

not really, one guy who has more money than a saudi prince through out what you think is a 20 to VP. There isn't money to be made in gaming on the competitive side for rich investors, the return would minuscule if never get a profit. This guy is similar to arbalet who just likes gaming and through some money at it, gaming isn't close to being profitable enough for people to "buy" teams.

There are a lot of untapped sources on money in gaming. Just not for the players/gamers. This guy can make his money back with ease throughout the years. Just everything will be monetized. They just need a real plan to suck everything out what they can. Most of the money is is LOL, so he could just start some LOL team too. Valve is sucking out a lot of money too with their skins/music kits, "Valve have paid out since 2011 to folks who made and sold in-game items for their games. It’s over $57 million dollars from hats, knives, guns, staves, and swords across TF2, Dota 2, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive." Like i said, there are still a lot of uptapped resources in this business and the guy is smart by exploiting them. He can make amateur tournaments with buy-in fees, commercialize shit etc etc. Why not build a gaming community like ESEA or smth like that, in the long run it's a good pay-off. And im pretty sure, that the future will hold somekind of pay-per-view or subscriber basis, to watch the majors etc.

Then why are companies paying FUCKLOAD of money for advertisements during Superbowl? One word: Audience. They will attract people to e-sports, then they will advertise products such consumers may buy. Easy as that.

2nd most played game in the world, older community (Dungeon of The Ancients is kinda older than CS 1.6 when it exploded), it has a bigger team for updates and management inside VALVe (yet, idk if it's gonna keep like being that) and the game recieves a lot more attention in old media by being similar to LoL (way eaiser to understand) and having the biggest prize-pool. Why wouldn't it be bigger? Because we love cs:go? It's like I'm a NiP fan but NiP just sucks now and I know it. @edit 2nd not 2ns

tinypic.com/r/23ieyyg/8 Don't live in the past. Also the scene is bigger in csgo because of everyday leagues and tournaments. There is much more competition. I am not gonna argue with idiots whos only argument is a rude word, this is why I am replying to u.

I agree with you, the scene is actually bigger, but that doesn't mean the the game is bigger. Just to give you some weird that shouldn't happen, in mid presentation of the last 2 Majors, ESL did advertise the Dota 2 New York tickets for sale, IN A CS:GO MAJOR. That however doesn't happen on the reverse side, and probably won't ever happen because it's not worth it. And also abou the steam counting, I just got in and in total Dota 2 is still on the lead. prntscr.com/8s2t60

100 million is still 100 million. No rich guy just gives that kind of money away, they want to see return in investment. His net worth is €12 billion, that doesn't mean, that he has this money in cash. That means that he has the share in the companies he owns. Or that's usually the case. But because he has made off his after the fall of the Soviet Union and by being a long time friend with Putin, i guess You can triple his net worth with ease.

as #58, vp is not only csgo, and i cant see a signle line there that this money will go to support their csgo division i mean... if so big money is invested there, its pretty obvious that they gonna kick this roster and will try to pick up a tier1 lineup like fnatic or tsm

To create this kind of business you need to entertain not dominate. I rather watch 2 equal teams fighting each other on like 28 rounds each map than one dominant making it on 20. With VP squads having fans all over the world there is no need to change this aspect. Using money into building new tournaments, arenas, ladders/matchmaking platforms, media is the way to go.

Nope. 1. Alisher - arabic name. 2. Usmanov - uzbek, tatar surname. 3. Burkhanovich - arabic patronymic. Where did he born? - In Namangan. Where Namangan is situated? - In Uzbekistan. How many years did he live in Uzbekistan and how many in Russia? If you understand, nationality it's not a thing that you can change in 1 or more years.

Why did you put up a picture of CSGO lineup when it's the organization that receives the investment and not just one of the teams sponsored by them?

How is football crumbling when its at a high point in the history of its game? Players we get to witness in football: Hazard/Neymar/Suarez/Ronaldo/Messi/+ 50-100 more and you are crying about money ruining things.

Like this usmanov wont call ko1n or this german guy and say.. "listen! 10mio dollar for you, you are fulltime coding for us and youll always make 100% sure the cheat is up to date! Offline tournament bypass guaranteed?" ko1n "sure boss not a big deal for me"

You guys should read the article first "that could exceed the $100 million mark." "The investment will be used by Virtus.pro to launch new tournaments, support new games, create media channels and build new esports arenas" Its not even clear he will invest 100m and the article says nothing about csgo. He will probably support russian esports with bigger, better organized events and support russian newcomers, making it easier to become a professional. And in some years, he will profit with money from sponsors etc.

Not directly for sure. They are not the reason why Virtus.pro organization/company got 100+ million investment. Byali, taz, neo, pasha and snax are just regular employees in Virtus.pro. They do their job, they are getting paid for their job. But they can "feel" this money indirectly - Virtus.pro management can decide to increase CS:GO team quarter/yearly budget, for example, they will invest $10 000 more so players will be living in better hotels during tournaments. Hope you got it.

This is not good at all my friends. Dota2, league of legends will make a step forward while in csgo cheating will get bigger and bigger! Im 100% sure some people cheated at cologne.. People saying its super good anti cheat control should fuck themselfs... You dont see these hacks! Its a small aim assist and you cant see it with human eyes. And im sure that with more and more money in the business, people like this russian usmanov will call some of the best coders and tell them "yo, need a lan aproved cheat, here is your 10milllion dollar, fulltime coder, can you guarantee there will be no problems?" coder "10mio dollar? Youll get the cheat tonight boss!"

hahahha, what a moron. this isn't russia. a russian law firm will never have any impact whatsoever in the west, and especially not on a danish company. they will be mocked - not even taken seriously.

Valve is dissapointing the world. Team flags must belong to the organization, not to the country that players are from.

WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? That's the most shitty, obvious nationalistic trashpost I've seen today. The organization doesn't mean shit to ANY followers of VP's CS:GO division. It means less than nothing. The only reason they have a single fan is because of their players, and so it should show that. The bitterness over not having any good Russian teams and barely any players, and therefore wanting 'your' pride of Virtus Pro having the freaking Russian flag, is so pathetic. You're making yourself look like a bitter little Russian.

??? That has nothing to do whatsoever with it. A teams tier is based on their play and results, and nothing else. That's why SHIT organizations with 100 dollars in savings like SK were considered t1 back in the day.

Also, it's pretty obvious from this post is that what it means is: IF the financial reward is there for the investor, he will continue to fund it with upwards of 100m$. But that's only IF he is convinced he will make more back. This is a very long term project and he could drop it all after like 10m$ if he sees too little financial reward. This is how business works.
