EnVyUs see off fnatic 2-1

The opening playoff match of the major brought together two teams that many had tipped to break into the top four. It was none other than a rematch of ESL One Cologne's final, but this time around EnVyUs seemed to be the favourites, given fnatic's struggle in the group stage.

de_mirage, fnatic's map choice, was the initial battleground here, and it was EnVyUs who looked more determined during the initial stages, picking up a 5-1 lead. fnatic then opened their bag of tricks and secured a round after a B push on eco before Freddy "⁠KRIMZ⁠" Johansson went huge with the AWP and single-handedly turned a 2vs4 situation into a 2vs1. With fnatic edging closer by the round, Dan "⁠apEX⁠" Madesclaire delivered a triple kill in A put EnVyUs up 6-4, but the Swedish team dominated the late game and closed out the half up 8-7.

fnatic got off to a flying start on the CT side of the map and brought the scorelien to 13-8, forcing EnVyUs to call a tactical pause. But the Frenchmen continued to struggle to find holes in the defensive setup of fnatic, who would go on to seal the victory without too much trouble.

The following map was de_cobblestone, where a strong start from EnVyUs saw them take the opening four rounds of the half. fnatic then finally managed to get a couple of rounds but they were never able to overcome the deficit, with EnVyUs taking a 9-6 lead with them into the second half.

EnVyUs came out with all guns blazing and charged towards the B site in the pistol round, catching fnatic's players by surprise. The Swedish team's hopes of coming back into the game relied on winning the gun round, but Nathan "⁠NBK-⁠" Schmitt had different plans and won the decisive 1vs1 to give EnVyUs an even bigger lead. Trailing 6-14, fnatic found a lifeline as they picked up back-to-back rounds, only to be caught off-guard by an ecoing EnVyUs side, who would go on to win the following round as well.

The third map, de_cache, began with EnVyUs rushing the A site in the pistol round and NBK- getting three kills to give his team the lead. The French team continued in the driving seat and brought the score to 5-0, when fnatic finally managed to get their first round.

However, the Swedish team's economy was still in a dire situation, and EnVyUs immediately restored a five-round lead, powered by Vincent "⁠Happy⁠" Schopenhauer's triple kill. Shortly after, fnatic would call a timeout, but that did little in the way of changing the tide of the game as EnVyUs took a 13-2 halftime lead. 

More misery was headed fnatic's way as they were crushed in the pistol round after the restart, with EnVyUs going on to win the following two rounds to seal passage to the last-four stage of the tournament.
