Natus Vincere fend off G2 in Cologne

The first quarter-final at ESL One Cologne 2017 was between Natus Vincere and G2. The first map was Overpass where G2 started on the CT-side. The Frenchmen secured the first two rounds and won the third round against Natus Vincere's early weapon purchase (3-0).

The CIS team lost a 5vs3 in the fifth round as they trailed 5-0. Egor "⁠flamie⁠" Vasilyev & company won the following round but their economy was reset as they couldn't start a streak (6-1). The first half ended 11-4 in G2's favor.

s1mple was overjoyed after the win

Oleksandr "⁠s1mple⁠" Kostyliev's triple kill in the second half pistol round gave his team their fifth round and kicked off the comeback effort. Natus Vincere didn't let G2 get any consecutive rounds in the second half and tied the game at 15-15 as the match went to overtime.

In overtime Natus Vincere won all three rounds on the CT-side and had a big advantage going into to the T-side. G2 held on for two rounds but Denis "⁠seized⁠" Kostin had a 1vs2 clutch to close out the map 19-17 in favor of Natus Vincere.

G2's tournament is over

The second map was Nuke and the T-sided Frenchmen secured the pistol round with Nathan "⁠NBK-⁠" Schmitt's triple kill. After winning the anti-ecos, G2 also secured the first weapon round despite a 3vs5 disadvantage (4-0). Natus Vincere got on the board a round later but Richard "⁠shox⁠" Papillon's 1vs3 clutch in the following round made it 5-1 in favor of G2. The CT-sided CIS team then won eight of the last nine rounds of the half to lead 9-6.

Dan "⁠apEX⁠" Madesclaire and shox secured the second half pistol round for G2 with double kills and the Frenchmen tied the game at 9-9 after picking up the anti-eco rounds. Despite losing the first weapon round G2 secured four rounds in a row to lead 13-10. Natus Vincere then came alive and kept winning rounds depsite man disadvantages, including a 2vs4 and a 3vs5. The CIS team won the map 16-13, and series 2-0 to advance to the semi-finals in Cologne, eliminating G2.
