rmn's VAC ban lifted

k1ck player Ricardo "rmn" Oliveira has seen his VAC ban lifted, the player has confirmed to HLTV.org.

The Portuguese player had received a VAC ban on his account, which he contested on the grounds that, upon launching the game, he only received a message about being banned by Overwatch, the community-based review system set up by Valve.

After over 48 hours with a VAC ban, which also translated into a FACEIT ban, Ricardo "⁠roman⁠" Oliveira has now been cleared of any wrongdoing. On Steam, the player received an automatic message that reads: "Your VAC ban in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has been removed."

HLTV.org reached out to the Portuguese player, who gave the following statement:

"I could not believe my eyes when I saw the ban, there was no way that it could be real," roman told HLTV.org.

"It just did not make any sense, it had to be a mistake. It was one of the worst situations I have ever been in."

"Even though I was shattered, I knew that justice would be done. I have to thank everyone who helped and supported me these last couple of days."

I think I'm unbanned. I'll confirm once I get home. I'm so happy right now

I have been banned like this in smurf account before and my main account which i have over 8k hours of 1.6 and GO together is still fine and not banned and i assure you that i have never cheated in my life. This is the Faulty overwatch system implemented by valve that gives demos to inexperienced players to review and the out some is this bullshit. Overwatch is a terrible way of convicting players....

No, i sent a ticket to support and i can't remember if they replied or not. But i am no one so they didn't lift it. They unban rmn because if for some reason a semi-professional or just an overall known player gets wrongly banned, all valve anti-cheat system (VAC and overwatch) will be put in question and it will be a problem for them.

VAC ban is for cheating. ScreaM is the only pro player who got banned by overwatch and it clearly says "GAME BAN" Valve says they have 0 tolerance to cheaters and VAC bans are permanent and not removable but somehow for this guy they are actually just a joke.

0 tolerance to cheaters convicted by vac. They probably fucked up the coding behind VAC+OW(remember valve saying they are working on a new AI vac? prob that was the problem) and after re-analyzing rmn's data they lifted it. Probs this AI banned him and issued a VAC? who knows...(I really doubt they are creating this AI vac tho)

I don't know about kQly. Something tells me that kQly was vac banned because they didn't lift it and also he admitted to cheat. rmn's ban is NOT a VAC ban, therefore it was a mistake like many other players banned by overwatch.

His profile page showed a VAC ban, that doesn't happen when it's an Overwatch ban. So unless their system is flawed, f.e. the backend returning the wrong ban, it was a VAC ban and NOT an Overwatch ban.

Do you even know what you talk about? VAC ban happens when VAC detects you using or used a cheat. OW only gives you a game ban, not a VAC ban.

There are many reasons why they are "trying to kill this game". They don't realise it, but the attitude of "we know best" is what will kill CS in the long-term. We need 128 tick servers in MM, for Demos and Overwatch too...but we don't have it. We need rifles, that cost 10x more than pistols, that can 1 shot at close range and pistols that can't 1 shot at a greater distance than rifles, etc, etc. We don't have that either. I could go on and on, but I won't bore you ;)

The thing with pistols and rifles is just to balance the game in a way that makes eco-rounds at least possible of winning. If you had everything just like in real life the game would be boring, because every time you won a pistol round or broken the other team's economy you would have free rounds. This way every team needs to be careful and you have to learn different skills, positions and setups in order to make the pistols work. If you do that than you have merit in winning the round. I think that the game is more competitive this way, despite obviously being unrealistic in this aspect

I know why it is the way that it is, I don't even disagree with how it is...what I disagree with is the principal of it. I'm actually surprised we don't see teams take advantage of the over-powered pistols on a buy round to throw off other teams...maybe that will be the next meta, who knows?! My point is, and nothing will change except for making the games more equal, that a rifle that costs $3100 should at least be able to 1 shot at extreme close range, OR pistols should not be able to 1 shot at such a long distance. I think it's too extreme how it is right now. My opinion, and that is all it is, isn't based on reality, it's based on making the game more balanced and fair to justify the validity of the decisions made in a given match. If it becomes any more extreme we will see problems arise. All I've seen so far are these type of things becoming more extreme.

Agreed. I just think that pistols like the stupid9 shouldnt be that op. Run and gunning should only be "possible" with the smgs and still it should be hard. The only pistol that should be able to 1 shot anyone should be the deagle... The 5-7 should give maybe as much damage as an m4 close range in the head, but less body damage. I think it would balance it a bit more and still make pistols viable in force buys

If it showed VAC in his profile then it was a VAC ban. There was an update earlier this year in which some ban strings were changed, that explains why it showed something other than a VAC ban in CS. It seems it was a false VAC ban after all.

There are certain cases where VAC bans can be lifted. I know from personal experience that they can be removed because I contacted valve along with my mates and we got our mate unbanned. He was VAC banned instantly when he loaded a script which apparently was not legit but after 3 hours of contacting valve and their office, the ban was removed.

Were you sure it was a Vac ban though? Could you see it on his profile? I've had it before that i was running SteamIdler while playing CS and i got kicked by VAC, had to validate the game again to get it back to normal, but otherwise i wouldnt be able to join anything.

He had been using the script for some time and when he loaded it with us in the lobby, and we entered the server, he instantly got vac banned. It also displayed it on his profile. To get it removed, I called valve from my mates house and they tried telling me they have no department that deals with it but I argued and used some argumentative skills :D to persuade them to get someone who I could talk to and when they verified the script on their system (which took at least 1 hour), they finally acknowledged that the ban was wrong and he got unabanned. My mate still has the emails from last year where I sent the script and stuff to the person dealing with the issue and added all the details.

The same happened to me. All my comments have been deleted about the thread and i wonder why. If the overwatch system bans a well known player wrongly it will cause damage to Valve because their AC (VAC and overwatch) is not reliable. If it bans you or me, who basically are no one, it doesn't matter so they won't do anything. Overwatch bans shouldn't exist because they are unfair. You can not put a LEM judging whether a Global Elite cheats or not. Not even Global Elites should judge any one. Its just not fair that inexperienced players who know nothing behind the decision making or even the communication behind the demo to determine a ban or not.

Sad that there is no punishment for cheating anymore, this sets a very troublesome example! Any semi-pro player could try to cheat his way to the top now if they know their vacs will get lifted anyway if they just cry on twitter. I know it might be rough for Valve to admit that there are cheaters in the (semi)-pro scene and I know it's tempting to protect their game's reputation by brushing incidents like these under the carpet. This might work short-term but will result in more cheating pros and an even worse reputation in the long run!

I agree. I even own one. I had a blast playing game called Cold Winter. Good game. I played also Burnout 3: Takedown, but I almost broke the controller so I gave up. BLACK on the other hand was a disappointment. Such a hyped game and it turned out to be a standard shooter. Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter is so bland (the X360 and PC version are so much better). Medal of Honor and Call of Duty games are meh, ok, but nothing special. Surprisingly Lord of the Rings - Aragorn's Quest was fun. Game for children but I like it. Splinter Cell Double Agent was great. A true successor to Chaos Theory. Now I own also X360 and it's a great system. Sniper Elite V2 plays surprisingly well with a joypad (eat me PC Gaming Master Race). I am a gamer in first place.

This is amazing. I dont belive that rmn cheats. Dont belive at all. However, just because this as been posted on HLTV.ORG valve goes fast to remove the BAN. But what about other guys like rmn? (I've been trade banned with no reason, send a ticket to valve in the first day... From 3 years ago until today, no response....) VALVE IS A JOKE!!!!!!

The overwatch system is fucking stupid. I had a friend get banned by it even though he wasn't cheating. He had over 2k hours on csgo and lost $400+ in skins but I'm happy to see that someone got justice for this shitty system

yeah probably but valve should really look into the overwatch system cause while it may work against finding some cheaters other people who aren't will get punished. If anything the biggest problem is giving cases to players who are ranked very low and have barley game sense at all.

I wonder, if he really got convicted by overwatch and some "convinced" people, how many innocent suspects get thrown under the bus because of this system? Lol, i have DMG. I play a lot with friends who are S6-G2. We win 50% because we get people from G2 to G4, for my friends sometimes is hard (they are lower ranked) but i carry and sometimes and i make 40+ frags at mach (easy on gold novas). CAN I BE SCARY ON OVERWACH SYSTEM? I Have a lot of reports, and now when i will be convicted nobody will remove my ban. Nobody will even belive my i was clean. ITS STUPID.

It was a Overwatch ban... it was a Vac ban because two overwatch bans turn into a Vac Ban... But if any of those two overwatch ban gets proved wrong, the Vac Ban gets lifted. In game it shows OW Ban: twitter.com/rmn_csgo/status/887406419015..

God you kids are dumb. OW doesnt work like ANY of you think it does. One person, watching a demo. Does NOT decide whether to ban or not. If a demo gets enough votes for cheating (after COUNTLESS reports). Then it is watched by real admins. The only thing wrong with OW; is the ability for terrible players, to report better ones. You kids are the problem. I am sure 90% of you report players that dont cheat.
