Marseille to host DreamHack Masters event

Marseille will host the first DreamHack Masters event of 2018, with $250,000 on offer, according to a Facebook post from Nexus Bar.

The event will run from April 18-22 at the prestigious Le Dôme de Marseille, an indoor arena with a capacity of 8,500 people, with 16 teams in attendance.

DreamHack CEO and President Marcus Lindmark will be in Marseille next week to visit the facilities and to meet with the event's partners. On Wednesday at 19:30 , he will be at the Nexus Bar, an esports bar located in Marseille, to present the event and shed more light on the qualifying process for the competition.

DreamHack Masters will have a stop in Marseille

Marseille will host the first of two DreamHack Masters events confirmed for 2018, the other taking place in Stockholm, from August 29 to September 2, also with $250,000 up for grabs.

DreamHack Masters Marseille will take place just one month before another French event, DreamHack Open Tours, where eight teams will square off for $100,000 in cash prizes.

I live in France. Been in Marseille, 2 times. Of course there are the "quartiers chauds" but the city is beautiful in itself and it's a fucking CS event! Calm down a little bit. It's not Beyrouth, it's not like there is Al-Qaida on the streets. You are too fucking afraid of the city.

Im not scared,the people there are just hatefull and not easy to deal with most of the time,im not even talking about the problem of criminality,pretty much the same thing in Paris but even worse in marseille since parisian are hardworker and wont spend their time walking outdoor just to provoc other people (talking about the Young generation ofc) and even older person in Marseille actually.Parisian will just avoid you and will be pretty cold

I am sorry Raclette, but I totally disagree with your point of saying that the Esport supporters and football supporters are the same population. I am living in Marseille full time and the only issue is, as you mentionned, that there are a lot of better places to do such an event, in Paris for example. This reason is that I think not a lot of people will attend this event because the interest in Esport in the area is rather low. There is only on esport bar in the city and it is not so big. Conclusion : do it in Paris! PS : I am leaving Marseille on the 21st of March so I am so disappointed :/

I think they don't do it in Paris because the price of the venues is too high. You don't have the same amount of competition to rent a venue in Marseille. Only the EU LCS finals have enough budget to rent something like the Bercy Venue. I don't remember where is saw that but apparently prices for venue in France are much higher than in Sweden, the UK or the US, where you see more events being hosted

I like events in France. This country so beauty and nice :) I remember dreamhack in 2015 where iBP surprise us. They beat envy 2-1 and almost take a map against Fnatic. (Fnatic was top 1 and noone cant stop them at this moment)

The city, on the seaside, is beautiful. The weather is always nice and hot in the summer and already in spring, (we might have rain though). Côte d’Azur in France is always charming for a tourist. Marseille is not really a safe city, and the “Quartier Nord” (north suburbs) is known for gangs and shit but it’s relatively safe and the surroundings are cool to visit if you have a day off before or after the event. There might be some frenchies triggered by the location, as there is a known soccer rivalry between Marseille and Paris and the location is really on the south. But there will be a great crowd 100% :D

there is a poor area of the city which has crime, same thing as any big city. there is more crime than usual there, statistically. rest of the city is fine. its mostly islamophobes and racists who will speak up about this like its a huge problem, while not knowing the reasons why.
