Ireland to miss WCG 09

The Republic of Ireland will reportedly not take part of the upcoming World Cyber Games event.

According to esports.ie, Ireland will sit the WCG out as there are no sponsors willing to send the winning team to the event as a consequence of the economic crisis.

With the tournament being held in China this year, the prospect of sending a team to the world finals no longer seems attractive, which could make more countries skip the event.

The financial climate has caused Samsung to decrease its support of several World Cyber Games qualifiers.

NL can take there place ! UL Ireland !

the latest wcg qual in hungary, 2006 ... now 2009, nothing changed, no money 4 the qual... and no other qual for other tournaments :_(

I'd be happy to see any nation going in 2009, even Ireland. It's tough times indeed, Denmark got no qualifier either (at this point), which would mean no defending champions attending.

Don`t expect any good news from Thomas Sung. Their partner in Bulgaria is like the most retarded guy in the world. We`ve send a petition last year signed by more than 1200 gamers in Bulgaria and that guy just answered "we`ll check the problem" and that`s all. So the same retarded person has the license for 2009 again. I hope WCG will die soon, so then Samsung can spend their money on something really good for the eSports, which means ANY other big tournament.

I am sorry, I am finding it hard to understand how you interpreted my comment. Did I say Sweden was not going? Or is my vision on the world wrong and the only country in the world is Sweden? Read it again, look up how many countrys exist in this world and then lookup the word "alot" And you will find out it does not mean Sweden nor does it mean everyone.
