Dates for IEM Katowice Minors announced

ESL has revealed that the Minors will take place in Katowice between January 16-26, with the Minor Playoff following on January 27.

As was announced in October, all four Minors for the IEM Katowice 2019 Major will be taking place in Katowice, Poland, with the tournament organizer now releasing additional details about the tournaments.

The Minors will take place in the ESL Arena in Katowice

The Minors will be held in pairs of two, with the order decided in regards to the time zones of the prospective regions. The first week, January 16-20, will be reserved for the CIS and Europe Minor, and the second week, January 22-26, for the Asia and Americas Minor. The CIS and Asia Minors will be the ones starting early on the day, with the Americas and Europe Minors being the late ones.

After all the minors are done, the third-placed teams from all four Minors will face off in the Minor Playoffs for the last chance to make the Major. The matches will be played on January 27, with the two best teams from that bracket grabbing a spot at the IEM Katowice Major New Challengers Stage.

If they are playing all the minors in the same place, they might as well just combine them into one since the teams from this stage will qualify to the main stage of the major and get sticker money. That way only the best teams (mostly EU, andthen some na teams and a team from one region or something) will actually make it to the main stage of the major.

that's how it should be but life is unfair. even in London they played all the minors there

but valve doesn't want "only the best teams", valve wants teams from all regions. they will never implement a system that could potentially eliminate a region from the major. also, combining the minors would just add another layer, since the closed qualifiers would effectively become the new minors.

To compensate for the players' jet lags for their best performance maybe? they probably are thinking "Since we have to pair the teams up according to their timezones for fairness, why dont we put them in their respective usual playing times as well?"
