NRG overcome BIG 2-1; to cs_summit 3 grand final

After three maps, NRG claimed a 2-1 win over BIG (16-4 Train, 8-16 Overpass, 16-6 Inferno) and advanced directly to the grand final of the event in Los Angeles.

The first map of the upper-bracket final of cs_summit 3 was Train, BIG's pick. However, Ethan "Ethan" Arnold's 3K on the defense saw NRG win the pistol round and take the early lead. As the score was 4-0, BIG had their best opportunity to get on the board yet as Johannes "nex" Maget found himself in a 1v1, but Jacob "FugLy" Medina clutched out the round to extend the North American team's lead.

nex did get his side their first round soon, though, clutching a 1v3, which was followed up by two more rounds going the way of BIG. (7-3) NRG then struck back, and in a key round, after Johannes "tabseN" Wodarz found three openings, Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte snuck up behind the last two BIG players and clutched the round to set his team up for a great finish to the half, 12-3. In the second pistol, Damian "daps" Steele' men split the A site through B and Popdog and claimed the round, swiftly closing out the game, 16-4.

FugLy was outstanding in the series, finishing with +29 KDD

On Overpass, NRG continued their pistol round win streak, but fumbled against a B site BIG defense that was mostly equipped with USP-S'. That gave the Germans a 3-1 start, which they slowly but surely built up to 6-2. Rounds were then traded back and forth, but NRG ended on top, and with FugLy leading in the fragging department, they managed to hustle back a solid half, finishing it 8-7 down.

BIG regained momentum early in the second half, surviving through a force-buy loss and quickly running up a 14-8 lead. They then faced a limited NRG buy, and after losing a man to an aggressive play on A from the CTs, rolled into the B site and held the afterplant to earn match point, closing it out straight after that, 16-8.

Brehze's triple with the Glock-18 started off the decider map, Inferno, with BIG bringing the score to 3-2 after triples from nex and Fatih "gob b" Dayik in rifle rounds. Things then swung back into NRG's favor after a force-buy win, and then the North American side started founding success towards both sites, running up an 8-2 lead. The half ended with more of the same, BIG snuck in just a single CT round before the half ended 12-3.

Owen "smooya" Butterfield opened up the pistol with two frags and tabseN closed it out with three in the after plant, giving BIG a lifeline in the series. Putting a stop to their comeback was a successful A hold from NRG which was followed up by Ethan clearing up top banana with the help of a single flashbang. (14-6) After that it was all done and dusted, NRG locked in Inferno 16-6 and took the series 2-1, advancing to the grand final. BIG will play the consolidation final tomorrow, with the winner of he Complexity - OpTic match.

Fugly is the kioshima of NA, he is one of the most underrated players there is. He is the only reason they beat BIG he carried them so hard, and other days he plays support when they don't frag good to help others win. respect Fugly

of course everyone is better than rush at this point, RUSH at his best might be a little better than kio BUT the thing is kio plays near best almost always, where RUSH seldom does so the consistency is one of the most attractive things about playing aisde kioshima, rush has like no consistency so yes is my answer

Cerq has been struggling lately on lan and online. Maybe he's in a slump. Seems that NRG are still able to do well without him having huge games (although I think his horrible performance against Vega cost them a chance at Starladder). They really are just an all around good team with each player being important to their success.

2015 Liquid FugLy :) I just think his roles nowadays don't allow for him to have big games like this too often. FugLy was actually the highest rated player on NRG the last half of 2017 and that was even while Brehze was on the team. His stats started falling off the beginning of 2018 at the same time when some of his roles were changed. For instance, he played ivy on train for ages and then was switched to B. At first he was terrible on B but now he does pretty decent.
