ESIC reveals 15 ongoing investigations into match-fixing allegations in ESEA MDL

The organisation has been investigating allegations of match-fixing in the league for the past 18 months, with a formal statement set to shed further light within the next four weeks.

The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) has issued a statement on ongoing concerns about matchfixing in ESEA's Mountain Dew League (MDL), an issue that has been present for "approximately 18 months" according to the esports watchdog.

ESIC revealed that it felt compelled to provide an update on its investigation as speculation towards the perpetrators has continued to brew on social media, with players publicly pointing towards teams and individuals that they believe may have been involved. The organisation cited as many as 15 ongoing investigations that they believe to be of "significant concern to the industry."

"As of the date of this update, ESIC has conducted an extensive and ongoing investigation into the allegations of match-fixing against several parties over the past 18 months," the organisation said. "We have also been using various investigative tools and contacts to link the bettors who placed the suspicious and unusual bets to the players and teams potentially involved in the match manipulation.

"ESIC is now in the concluding stages of its investigation and will issue a formal statement relating to the investigation within four weeks of the date of this update (subject to complications that may arise in the finalisation of our investigation."
