hades: "There were no thoughts, it was just pure excitement and happiness"

9INE's star AWPer touched on their run at the second RMR and what it feels to be the first Polish team at a Major in five years.

9INE have become one of the tier two upset stories of the BLAST.tv Major Europe RMR B, winning three on the trot to qualify for the Valve-sanctioned event in France. It was no easy route for the Poles, either, as they took out G2 on Nuke, BIG on Mirage and Vitality in a two-map series on Vertigo and Anubis.

hades won all 16 opening duels he took at the RMR

A visibly emotional Olek "hades" Miskiewicz shared his thoughts after the qualifying match against Vitality on what his team achieved, becoming the first Polish side to reach a Major since 2018, doing so against a stacked field, and what's to come for a side that made a name for themselves online and now have the chance to continue showing their prowess on LAN at IEM Rio and the Paris Major.

You guys went 3-0 at the RMR to qualify for the Major. You needed a few minutes to compose yourself after the match so tell me what were those first thoughts that went through your mind?

There were no thoughts, it was just pure excitement and happiness. I am still shocked we did it, you know? 3-0 against such good teams is unbelievable.

You said it, 3-0 is unbelievable. This is the best possible case scenario, right? Especially at the RMR where crazy things are happening and nobody really knows what's going on. Could you ever imagine that?

I mean, I saw us going through, but maybe not 3-0. [laughs].

You got some big scalps too against partner teams and part of the established circuit and you guys came out of left field. We've been following you for a while, the great ascent in the first half of the year, but this is another level. Tell me how it was to go against such established teams, especially as you have some experience, but some of your teammates don't have as much. How did that work out in getting everyone motivated and believing that this 3-0 was possible?

We play with such a style that we sometimes win rounds that we can't win and then we lose rounds that we can't lose. We just believe in every single round and every game, especially on LAN you see everyone hype each other. When you are hyped, the whole game just works better, you hit more shot, you make better decisions, and you feel the game better. You just try to be as hyped as possible and it just happened.

The big thing being the first Polish team at a Major since 2018. It's been many years, what does it feel to be a part of this, especially as it's the last CS:GO Major and it's been the game that we have been in the past ten years? So what does it feel to become that Polish team that finally made it into the last CS:GO Major?

I mean it feels really nice because it's the end of the legacy for CS:GO with the new CS coming, so maybe other teams can look up to us and we can set some kind of example so in CS2 more Polish teams can join the Majors and high leagues — that's what we hope for.

So you guys want to be a little bit of a role model for the rest of the scene, so tell me how that's been with the Polish support and how is the scene is doing? It's been a long time since we've seen a team that can do this so where's the Polish scene now and how have you guys been feeling it?

The Polish scene, as I said in my previous interview, it's slowly getting better and people are seeing that in order to achieve something you have to work hard and play a lot. It can't be like it used to be in the past years.

The fans have been crazy and my followers have been on and on, especially since the start of the Major [cycle] with hundreds and hundreds of notifications, so you can see that Polish fans lacked a team that is on the biggest stage.

Can you give me a little condensation of what it was like to get into ENCE, getting dropped, going back down and playing internationally for a while, going back to the Polish scene, and rising all the way back to the top again?

The end of ENCE was pretty rough, I was in a bad space mentally, and in-game I was having bad performances so I went to Finest to find my own form. There was a lot of stuff going on so we couldn't stay together and at the end of the year we parted ways. I wrote to nawrot and then I just felt like this would be a good space for me. We've just been working hard, and I've added some stuff that I had from different teams and they showed me their stuff. I told the boys what was good and what isn't, and then we just kept working on all this stuff and it just clicked.

All of the online grind from the beginning of the year has been paying off now. You got to the RMR and you got through it, now you are flying to Rio, and then you are going to Paris. You have all these LANs ahead of you, how excited are you about it all?

Really excited. I love traveling and I love tasting foods from other countries too [laughs]. Just being back in the tier one scene and playing against all the best teams, seeing all the guys, it's been really great.

I've said it many times before and I will say it again - the line between tier 1 and tier 2 is thiner than ever before. Actually the line is called "partner teams" and because of it, everything is rigged. HLTV top teams ranking, HLTV top 20 players, everything is rigged just because those so called "TOP TEAMS" are rich enough to buy partner slot at ESL Pro League, BLAST tournaments etc. I've said it many times and HLTV fanbois called me stupid or things like "you work 11 years in esports and you dont know sh!t". Same about R. Lewis or Thorin that say "teams are bad" are wrong. How many times BNE proved all of them wrong? Now 9INE, played vs. "the best nuke team" on nuke and won, vs "top team" on mirage and won and bo3 vs another "top team" and won. The only reason why teams like FORZE / BNE / Aurora / 9ine etc are not considered "TOP TEAM" is becuase they dont have enough money to buy a freaking slot and play against those "TOP TEAMS".

+1, partner franchises are bad for the scene, you can see the same in valorant. There’s too few challengers cuz it’s always the 10 partner teams mainly playing each other every week again and again
2023-04-12 23:41

It's pretty simple. Big orgs have all the money so they can have the best players. Smaller orgs lack the money and can't have the best players, so they must try to be the best teams instead. Tier1 orgs have forgotten what it takes to be a good team. Roster moves are made too lightly and without enough of a plan on how the team should function after them. There is no patience to wait for results. The necessary grind to rise to the top is bypassed with paid partnerships, so none of the roster iterations really learn to play against lower-tier teams.

it's not about big orgs having the best players because you can clearly see that's not the case. The case is that big orgs can literally buy slots to S tournaments (like ESL or Blast) which gives itself a huge boost to the ranking even if they play shit. Ranking would look completely different with qualifiers to EPL, Blast Pro Series etc.

How exactly isn't it the case? Tier2 and lower teams cannot hold onto their star players, because bigger orgs buy or hire them, same as in every other sport where roster spending isn't capped. If a small org can't get a competitive roster together, then that's all there is to it. If a big org doesn't have a competitive roster they're going to get better players from the smaller orgs or the free agent market. Big orgs pay for partner spots but that money is also spent into organizing the events and giving out prize money. This money comes from their sponsors or fans in one way or another. Without abundant partner spots the events might not get organized at all. This is the reality of the scene at the moment. The big orgs own it and the smaller ones just come to play. We would need Valve to step in more heavily and putting more of that skin money back into the pro scene for the partner stuff to not make sense anymore economically.

It was not always like this, imagine how tournaments were organized in 2015 or earlier? There were no such "partner teams" and other bullshit but tournaments were happening, guess how? And those times money was bigger of an issue. And IMO these were better times, we had more organisers, market was split into more instruments, right now it's just ESL and BLAST with this bullshit and PGL sometimes.

It's true, but also the money involved in tournaments and salaries has skyrocketed since then. So you can't just really rely on random ad hoc tournament organizers anymore, thus the few major organizers have so much power and partner teams obviously through them.

One of the "top teams" have a coach, assistant coach + 3 other people that watch demos and create anti strats etc and They will probably go out from the major tomorrow. 9ine doesnt have money for anything like that. They win by skill, teamplay and hard work. I bet entire top10 would change in 6 months if suddenly "partner team" wasn't a thing and those "lower tier teams" would have a chance to fight for slots. At this moment, we dont know who is next KaBuM/KeyD stars/Luminosity. Teams like BNE/FORZE/9INE/AURORA etc simply cant afford a slot, this is literally the only reason top teams are top. Imagine if those teams would be able to play at top tier tournaments for 6 months and get experience. Everything would change and top20 players ranking would be all about talent.

You need to understand that the partner system is hurting the tier1 teams just as well. If they were playing in more qualifiers, they would eventually gather experience playing against all the tier2 and tier3 teams. Teams like BNE/FORZE/9INE/AURORA can beat tier1 teams when they play against each other once a year in an RMR tournament and everyone knows everything about the tier1 team and the tier1 teams haven't been paying attention to them all year long. But do you realistically think that any of these teams could compete in the Blast circuit playing the same large org big money teams over and over again? It's easier to climb to the top than to stay there. Once everyone else starts to study and pick apart your game instead of you going into every game as a less known underdog, it's game over for most teams.

"..do you realistically think that any of these teams could compete in the Blast circuit playing the same large org big money teams over and over again?" - Yes, I do. You get better if You play vs better teams. Some of the teams would realize that They need a change of a player, like BIG, like Faze(ropz) etc. There are alot of talented teams that are just hard-stuck at tier2 and They lose hope and dedication for the game. When Fallen with his KaBuM showed up, they got better because of the sponsors that allowed them to develop. Now its harder to get top sponsors because those sponsors know that its not worth to pay a team who isn't advertising you every month on big tournaments. I know how it works because I work for one of the "top sponsors" and I know how much it changes since I know former "top team", former "major team winner". "they would eventually gather experience playing against all the tier2 and tier3 teams" - it works both ways ;) I agree with everything else You said. More or less

Yeah, I mean the point is that you need to have that money to stay relevant in tier1. For an established tier1 team getting those big sponsor bucks is relatively easy and then you can put them in a good use ensuring visibility for the sponsor by paying for partner spots. It's a cycle that feeds itself. You need to establish yourself financially to break into the tier1 scene, it's not enough to be competitive on the server. The most glaring issue with the partner system is how easy it is to stay at that position even without a competitive team. I think that's something that should be changed so that for financially solid tier2 orgs getting the partner spots they deserve would be almost automatic.

I'm so proud of the boys, making it to the Major is impressive, making it 3-0 is very impressive, but making it 3-0 with wins over G2, Vitality and BIG? That just doesn't feel real for me still. I'm super happy that hades bounced back after ENCE, his performance was poor, the kick was deserved, but him making it slowly step after step back to the TOP, that's just lovely. Let's go HADES, Let's go 9INE <3
