Vitality complete lower bracket gauntlet to clinch last playoffs spot in Rio

Vitality won three consecutive series in Group B after they were sent down to the lower bracket on the opening day of the tournament.

Vitality have claimed the final spot up for grabs at IEM Rio after completing the lower bracket gauntlet in Group B. Mathieu "⁠ZywOo⁠" Herbaut and company had beaten FaZe earlier in the day to advance to the playoffs-deciding match against OG, in which they took their revenge for an overtime loss in the opening round.

Vitality have now advanced to the quarter-finals from third place in the group and are set to face off against Group A's second-placed team, BIG, on Friday.

Spinx and ZywOo were the highest-rated players of the Rio group stage

OG are now eliminated from the tournament in seventh-eighth place. The European side were unable to capitalize on an opening Mirage win against Vitality, where some individual brilliance and memorable plays from Shahar "⁠flameZ⁠" Shushan and Nikolaj "⁠niko⁠" Kristensen got them over the finish line.

Vitality equalized the series on Inferno with a 16-5 scoreline, powered by a carry performance from their superstar, ZywOo, who put up a 33-12 score and 2.31 to send it to a third map single-handedly.

On Overpass, the favorites got the job done with relative ease, this time with Lotan "⁠Spinx⁠" Giladi on top of the board, adding another superb map to his tally after he had dismantled FaZe earlier in the day.

Vitality's star duo now sits atop the charts as the two highest-rated players of the tournament, with the Israeli averaging a 1.41 rating and the Frenchman a 1.34 rating over eight maps played.

Honestly they shouldn't even be in the lower, the first bo1 against OG they had overpass and inferno open to choose, and they picked overpass just to train it considering how dogshit they are in it

I really hope that zywoo can get a better team in the future, mainly a more consistent IGL, a lot of vitality rounds feel like its more about zywoo go kill vs strats and apex stats are rough. he really deserves a team that is up to his standard of play

Rough circuit for Vitality... They lost a nail-biting and close BO1 and then have to face 3 BO3 elimination games, one of those teams being FaZe Clan of all teams. Great to see them on form and to see what they are capable of, let's just hope that they can actually build off of this dominant form.
