IEM Sydney 2023G2 edge past Grayhound in Sydney
The Australian team nearly came back from a 3-9 deficit.
G2 began their IEM Sydney campaign with a victory in a close-fought Nuke against Grayhound. The Aussies got just three rounds on their defensive half but came agonizingly close to victory, falling 11-13, courtesy of Joshua "INS" Potter's star performance.
Next up for G2 is an upper-bracket semi-final against the winner of Monte vs. Complexity, while Grayhound will fight for their tournament lives against the loser of the aforementioned game.
G2 began their Counter-Strike 2 debut in hot form. They looked imposing on the offensive side of Nuke after winning the pistol round and dominating from start to finish with the help of Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov's fragging, which gave them a six-round lead at the switch.
A 9-3 T-half for Nikola "NiKo" Kovač and company seemed enough to secure the victory, but the European combine came close to throwing a massive lead after a slow start on the defensive side. Grayhound tied up the scores at 11-11 before Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač closed out the map in a 1vs1 in the final round of regulation to give G2 a 13-11 victory.
