Perfect World announce Shanghai Major

A Major is set to take place in China for the first time.

Perfect World have revealed that the second Major of 2024 is set to take place in Shanghai, China. The announcement was made during the final day of the CS Asia Championships.

The event is scheduled for December 2024 and will mark the first time China has hosted Counter-Strike's most prestigious event since Valve began supporting Majors back in 2013.

HLTV reported in July that Valve were aiming to host 2024's second Major in Shanghai. That report stated that the RMR qualifiers for the event would be planned to take place from October 26-November 13, with the Major itself set to follow just over two weeks later from December 1-15. Perfect World's press release did not confirm the exact dates.

HLTV's original report also said that Perfect World would be running the Shanghai Major in partnership with PGL, who have been tasked with organizing the first Major of 2024 in Copenhagen. Perfect World's recent announcement made no mention of PGL.

Perfect World have been organizing top-level regional tournaments in China for years, running events such as the recent Perfect World Arena Premier League. They have also hosted international LAN events, like the ongoing CS Asia Championships.

Can't wait to wake up at 4am for a major final

that's not what i said, my point was that fans of an organization (not necessarily its cs2 team) with such a plastic, normie brand like faze would have no problem with competitions filled with saudi propaganda because of their lack of knowledge compare this to messi fans giving 0 fucks about the injustices of the qatar WC and the current direction of FIFA overall because they're too busy being megafans of a superstar player

Fact WC was in Qatar takes absolute nothing from Messi winning it. Why should I care about stupic politcs? I just enjoy the game and supporting of my team, you act like if you don’t watch the event it won’t happen, learn to accept thing in your life, you can do nothing about. Also fan of C9 talks about plastic hahahahahah

if no one cared about human rights as they are understood in the west, the world would be a worse place. that's why we need to criticize countries whitewashing their actions with money and entertainment. i do understand if you do not want to hear about the evils in our world 24/7, but it's not wise to accept major injustices

Well, to be fair, Kazakhstan did contribute some pretty solid players to the scene, including a couple Major winners, and they do have a pretty solid fan base. Astana is also a pretty neat city from what I hear. Also, it doesn't have a horrendous timezone, it would actually work pretty well for most CS fans.

look at the last s-tier lan in china, its like 20 rows of seats. and at this CAC theyre in what looks like a college basketball stadium. even just the premium section at iem sydney was bigger. by history i meant results by au teams/players and also the playerbase; counterstrike's expansion into china is relatively recent

Some of them yeah, but at least replay you get to choose if you want to watch it or not. Well this is purely in your head man, you'd get placebo'd hard if you were in a study about this. I'm sorry i'm more pragmatic (and healthy), I'd rather watch it during the day when it suits me rather then forcing me to watch breaks and analysis at 4am

Unless you are specifically avoiding the outcomes live is always better. I don't want to watch a match when I know what happened already, it takes the excitement out of it.

Isn't it literally illegal for youngsters to play too much on video games in china? If there's a Chinese team ever then it's because a group of 18 year olds decide to start the grind and then maybe win a tournament when they're 25 if they can catch up.

Agreed-- but i dont even mean book smart and necessarily getting a formal education. Just being able to read and communicate with other human beings. Be able to occasionally speak in public. Not being suicidal and anxious. Be able to listen and present an argument. Developing emotional iq, life skills. Having the ability to sit and meditate. Understanding the importance of physical activity. Understanding how to build wealth, and how important gratitude and charity is for your own self. Being at peace and feeling fulfilled and not feeling lost if the smartphone was taken away for 24 hours, e.g. figuring shit out without google maps... etc .

It is a regulation at the beginning, and people have been playing international server of CSGO/CS2 pretty much all along. So they can pratice like others for sure, but sometimes they are not able to compete in official tournaments, which like others had said, there are still some ways to get around it.

I don't know the outcome when I watch a game in replay wtf otherwise it makes no sense.. wtf are you on Is it so hard not to turn HLTV or instagram first thing in the morning to check scores ? Have a bookmark for the youtube channel of the event, turn off volume, press bookmark, look at the bottom part of your screen, put the cursor at the very begining of the live, turn on volume.

Hectic sleeping schedule can't be better than one respecting circadian clock. We evolved for millions of years with a sleeping pattern respecting sun movement and you think it's healthy to watch a screen till 5 am LOL. So yes this is totally objective. I say it's subjective so I accept that you prefere the experience of watching live at 4 am, and you say it's wrong ? bro I do a step for a compromise, do one too. How can't it be subjective as everybody can have a favourite way to watch an event I'm done with you I'm not sure if you are trolling or not

if you don't sleep 10pm to 6am everyday you health is impacted whether you like or not. read scientific publications about circadian rhythm + it's impossible for you to know in which health you would be with a strong sleeping routine so that statement is impossible to make

Do you realise that by simply being held in China the viewer count will be easily +1/2m? Recent majors barely reached 800k total from 'regions *where the most viewers come from'

We’ll see. Also, there’s a difference between a million viewers from around the world and a million chinamen. The last 3 Majors has had the most viewers ever. And a slight drop off from 2021 has to do with the awful bracket system that resulted in tier 2 teams in playoffs, but that’s going to be changed anyway.

Yeah, as a Dota viewer words "Shanghai Major" gave me a PTSD.

If it's gonna be in sh-t timezone, at least it should have been in Australia. Way more deserved, imho - great crowd, already produced some decent players and teams and a region that could do with being pulled back into the spotlight for a bit because of how disconnected it became from the mainstream pro-scene during the forced online era. I understand that Valve are trying to promote the game in a new region where it has tons of room to grow, but I feel they have been negligent of their long time fans as of late, in more ways than just putting the Major into a minor-scene country. Ought to throw a bone to the old dogs from time to time as well.

You are right, but China is a way bigger market and there is already a perfect world business connection and theyve probably been asking valve constantly to host a CS major.

They need to kickstart CS in China somehow. Sure AUS deserve it more, but if they don't do anything they lose everyone in China to Valo (which they still might of course)

i doubt there will be many visa issues in China. Its not like in USA. Or at least there wasnt visa problems in this CAC one, only for the replacement of G2 but that was because they dropped out late

Awesome. The planned second major of 2023 was allegedly supposed to be held in China or Singapore before it got scrapped for CS2 so this is good news.

China is one of the last countries that should get the privilege to host a major. If Valve want a major in Asia go to Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore and so on. If Valve just want a new major location go to Australia. They're the ones who would deserve it the most.

Tbf valve killed South Korean cs. There would of been more South Korean talent if it weren’t for the pc bang incident

Basically in South Korea, majority of the gamers play at pc cafes especially at the time. Then valve started charging South Korean cafe gamers 15 bucks a week or month to play cs and destroyed their player base. South Korean players were as dedicated at cs like they were with league and StarCraft until valve ruined it. This is all according to Xeta, in a double tap interview

Aussies deserved a Major but if it's healthier for the game to get some money and fans then yeah, go for it.

Not sure about this but if it's an attempt to strengthen the Chinese market then all power to Valve. It's a good time to market their new game in commuland. Surely crowd will be subdued and tame but I hope the teams bring the hype with them.

I'm willing to bet on it if you are. If the crowd is quiet, boring, no good interaction or otherwise limp or even perhaps empty seats then you put ropz as your fave player until the next major. If the crowd is excited and brings the noise, good signs maybe some memes, cheers and screams (including for non Chinese teams) then I put Moseyuh as my fave player until the next major. Wanna bet?

Lmao sure. Depends on definitions tho, cause did you think CAC was tame? I think far from it, especially on the Chinese stream it was crazy but it was a little muted on ENG stream I got nothing against ropz anyway so its a win win

Its so weird to me that people are saying China dont deserve major and Aus should get it instead. From a western perspective yes but China has more CS fans than Aus and an entire community that has never had a major, aus at least is used to english broadcast etc, so while timezone isnt catered to them essentially everything else is.
