FURIA march past BLAST Open London champs G2 to go 2-0

FURIA have secured revenge for their semi-final loss at BLAST Open London.

FURIA have secured a 2-0 record in FISSURE Playground 2, taking down G2 in two maps to put themselves one series away from another playoff appearance.

Not much time has passed since FURIA and G2's last encounter, having recently faced off in the semi-finals of BLAST Open London, where Nemanja "⁠huNter-⁠" Kovač's troops romped past FURIA with two 13-5 victories before going on to lift the trophy in London.

This time around, FURIA went for a new approach to the veto, selecting Overpass rather than Mirage, while G2 once again opted for Inferno.

"I think we were not confident enough in [Overpass] to pick it, because we have confidence in other maps." Kaike "⁠KSCERATO⁠" Cerato shared regarding the difference in the veto between FURIA's two recent meetings with G2.

"They are really good on Inferno, to be honest. They played a lot of Inferno. Doesn't matter if we are winning, and have confidence in Inferno; they pick [it] because they have a lot of confidence in their Inferno. They don't change that much, but they have good aim. It's good we finally made this happen, because malbsMd is insane on this map."

FURIA enjoyed great success on G2's pick of Inferno to kick off the series, with all of the international side's players barring Gabriel "⁠FalleN⁠" Toledo posting solid individual numbers throughout the map. Although G2 managed to claim both pistol rounds, they struggled to convert and string together back-to-back rounds, allowing FURIA to steal away the map 13-7.

Overpass began with a hotly contested first half that culminated in a tie game at the side swap, but G2 looked primed to rebound from their Inferno loss as they quickly wrapped up the first five rounds of the second half.

Despite the limited breathing room, FURIA managed to claw their way back into their map pick, forcing overtime thanks to the efforts of a revitalized FalleN, where FURIA would go on to lock down their pick 16-14 and the series 2-0.
