IEM Chengdu 2025The MongolZ beat HEROIC on controlez debut
The MongolZ's latest addition shone bright on the first two maps.
Unudelger "controlez" Baasanjargal has enjoyed a winning debut for The MongolZ as his team defeated HEROIC 2-1 to open their campaign at IEM Chengdu, recovering from a loss on Overpass (10-13) with wins on Inferno (13-6) and Ancient (13-5).
Despite arriving in The MongolZ to little fanfare considering his age and underwhelming stats regionally, controlez was The MongolZ's best player over the first two maps, and a particular standout on Inferno.
The 28-year-old utterly dominated the CT side on Inferno and ultimately posted a 1.89 rating and over 100 ADR on the map, guiding his team to an easy win before Usukhbayar "910" Banzragch came alive on the AWP on Ancient to help convert the series.
HEROIC meanwhile seemed out of sorts on the last two maps, struggling desperately to get any individual firepower rolling, particularly across the likes of Linus "nilo" Bergman and Simon "yxngstxr" Boije.
controlez smashes expectations
It is only his first series in a The MongolZ jersey, so it is too early to draw any conclusions, but few would have expected controlez to perform as well as he did in this series.
A 28-year-old player who has never done much special playing regionally in Asia, and counts significant gaps without a team in his career trajectory, controlez was a fine replacement on the first two maps for The MongolZ's previous star Azbayar "Senzu" Munkhbold.
