House rules

Hello mens,

Welcome to the home of competitive Counter-Strike. Our community is fueled by the passion for CS2 esports. With a drive to create the best possible experience throughout our rich history, spanning well over two decades, we serve millions across the globe.

With a mammoth, passionate community, we want to ensure that comments posted under our news articles and forum topics are tasteful, relevant, and lawful. Therefore, we’ve created clear guidelines on what is encouraged, what isn’t tolerated, and how moderators will enforce the House Rules.

Respect & Inclusion

  • Always treat all members with respect. While friendly rivalries are allowed, any type of abuse will not be tolerated.

  • Personal attacks, insults, or harassment of other users, moderators, players, or staff are not allowed.

  • Racism, sexism, religious discrimination, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia, or any other form of discrimination is strictly prohibited.

  • No defamatory content. Do not post false statements that could damage the reputation of players, organisations, celebrities, HLTV staff, or anyone else.

  • HLTV’s community is vast and encompasses many cultures with unique perspectives. Respect others' opinions and backgrounds.

Healthy Banter & Debate

  • Keep debates on topic. Irrelevant or disruptive content may be removed.

  • Counter-Strike thrives on rivalries, stars, underdogs, and intense esports action. Therefore, debates can get heated. Don’t let it get too hot, avoiding personal attacks or offensive language. Banter and humour are welcome.

  • Spirited disagreement is welcome, toxic behaviour is not.

  • Avoid spamming repetitive arguments, using excessive caps lock, or posting disruptive comments.

Harmful or Sensitive Content

  • Hate speech, slurs, or derogatory terms will result in immediate removal.

  • Cruelty towards players (e.g., wishing injury, mocking tragedies) is not tolerated.

  • Content that promotes violence of any kind, dangerous stunts, animal cruelty, extreme dieting, eating disorders, suicide, self-harm, body shaming, or harmful behaviour will be removed and may be escalated to HLTV staff.

  • References to violence, self-harm, or harmful behaviour will be removed and escalated to HLTV staff if necessary.

  • Sensitive topics (e.g., player deaths, depression, political conflicts) must be approached respectfully; trolling or exploiting these results will result in an instant ban.

Illegal Content

  • Content promoting, glorifying, or instructing on human trafficking, unlawful immigration, terrorist activity, foreign interference, fraud, scams, or other criminal activities will be removed immediately and result in an instant ban.

  • Sharing information about the proceeds of crime, hacks, or any activity intended to deceive or defraud others is strictly prohibited and may lead to a permanent ban.

  • Any attempt to use HLTV or its services to facilitate illegal activity is strictly prohibited. If such transgressions occur, HLTV may be legally compelled to reveal account information to the authorities.

Spam, Promotions & External Links

  • No spamming posts, flooding threads, or re-posting the same content.

  • No advertising, competitor promotion, or unauthorised external links.

  • Sharing resources is fine when relevant to the discussion (e.g., stats, highlights, social posts from players/teams). Moderators will use discretion.

  • Content must not promote third-party websites unless endorsed by HLTV.

  • When making bold claims about a tournament organiser, player, team, or anyone else, please aim to provide a source. While not providing a source isn’t a bannable offence, spreading malicious rumours is.

Language & Tone

  • Write all comments/threads in English.

  • No offensive language. Keep it clean.

  • You can be as witty as you want, without being abusive or crude.

  • Do not use CAPS LOCK excessively. WE CAN HEAR YOU JUST FINE WITHOUT CAPS LOCK.

Content Standards

  • No sexually explicit, violent, or graphic content, including, but not limited to, any sexual content involving minors.

  • Controlling, coercive, or manipulative behaviour towards others is not allowed.

  • No illegal products (e.g. weapons, drugs) or pirated materials (including hacks or cheats).

  • Memes and humour are encouraged, as long as they follow these rules.

Copyright & AI Content

  • Please ensure that all comments that you post are written in your own words and do not violate copyright laws.

  • You are welcome to use AI tools for drafting or editing, provided the final output is original and high-quality. By posting, you accept full legal responsibility for your content, ensuring it does not infringe on any third-party intellectual property. AI-generated posts are held to the same standards as human-written ones, and the same rules apply.

Using The Correct Forum Section

  • The HLTV forums are split into six sections (Counter-Strike, Fantasy, Hardware & Tweaks, Bugs & Suggestions, Betting and Off-Topic.

  • Always post in the section relevant to the topic.

  • Avoid posting threads that pertain to the Off-Topic section in the Counter-Strike forum. Learn more here.

  • Any information, including anything in user and moderator posts in the Betting section are based on opinion and should not be construed as betting advice to act upon.

  • HLTV.org and Better Collective A/S are not responsible for any losses or gains resulting from the Betting section information. Practise responsible gambling. You must be 18+ to play.

Privacy & Personal Information

  • Never share your own personal information (full name, address, phone number, email, etc.) or that of others.

  • When sharing a screenshot, ensure that there’s no personal information, IP addresses, or technical details visible.

Respect for Moderators

  • Moderators are here to help maintain balance, not to silence opinions.

  • Do not publicly attack moderators or argue about removed content. Use the feedback/appeal process if you disagree with a decision.

  • Abusing or harassing moderators will result in a permanent ban.

  • Moderators are responsible for enforcing these rules. Respect their duties, and you’ll earn their respect as well.

Reporting & Appeals

  • When reviewing reported comments, removal is based on evidence, not bias.

  • Users may appeal bans or warnings through the official HLTV appeal system.

  • When banned, you’ll get a notification containing a copy of the comment used to set the ban. The notification includes a link to submit your appeal and/or inquiries about a ban

  • For IP bans, contact [email protected] and submit your appeal, including as many details as possible, while remaining respectful.

  • Any abuse of the appeal system will be dealt with swiftly.

Consequences

  • Depending on the severity of the violation, moderators may:

  • Remove the comment/post.

  • Ban the user.

  • Zero tolerance applies to hate speech, sexual abuse content, discrimination, illegal content, or harassment.
