I've been following C9 for a while, and reading your posts I can see you have too. There's no denying that they've been struggling. Going out in groups multiple times (admittingly, a few were bad luck such as ESWC) and even on home soil - both LAN and Online they've struggled. C9 can definitely make it out of groups in this tourney, but the question is... will they? They have the talent, they have the players... just not the consistency. Possibly a dedication issue as well.

Yeah, the main issue is definitely dedication and motivation. Thats always been an issue with the coL/C9 roster from what I heard - at coL some guys missed quite a few practices, n0thing has historically been unmotivated (but Hiko trying to get him kicked and then leaving has made n0thing play way more consistent), and shroud seems to focus quite a lot on streaming. The last one isn't really a bad thing, as he has to increase his income from something, but it really feels C9 should practice more. KaBuM clearly practiced Mirage like crazy and it worked great for them. I would say the two LANs they honestly played badly at recently were DHW and Aspen (with the exception of the NiP game). The rest were actually not too bad. Whats interesting to me is how Cloud9 seems to have players with probably the highest skill ceilings in NA (and pretty good for EU), but no consistency. Thats one of the reasons I like them to be honest, they really are probably the biggest wild card in CS:GO.

Aspen and ClutchCon definetely can't be criteria =) We need to see them in Poland first. But yeah, you are right Jordan can be the best american player when he is onfire, sean also improve a lot and without Dazed and steel he is probably the best NA igl, Shazham looks decent with his awp, Semphis was extremely good on the last lan. Only shroud can't show the same performance like the last ESL major.

I really don't know whats going on with shroud. Ever since Cologne hes been getting worse and worse, and while he still frags and can pull off awesome plays, hes consistently inconsistent. Its not even game to game or map to map even, its round to round.

Inshock could do it. I find it really hard to cheer for Cloud9 anymore with everything that they stand for. I.e: Encouraging streaming over practicing and improving. Fuck that. Has no place in our competitive scene.

Try looking at matches since he started rifling, not AWPing. Online sean is always around the third for Cloud9, generally higher (From what I've seen its n0thing/ShahZam, sean, n0thing/ShahZam, Semphis, shroud). He played well vs NiP at Aspen as well, and had an ok ClutchCon (which isn't on there for some reason).

Thing is, at this point I would rather have another Sgares or Semphis than shroud (though there are better NA riflers so that really isn't needed). Both are as good as shroud is right now, and have the capacity to go off in big ways. shroud, sadly, has had a few highlight reel moments, but otherwise nothing.

hmm not sure. I think we'd need to be involved more closely in the team to see why shroud isn't performing. when you watch him, his aim looks fine, but he doesn't frag nearly as much as he should be. so it may be the way he's used i personally feel (as i've always said and hiko eventually agreed), that shroud's streaming hurts him severely. he's wasting too much of his time playing against casuals, which doesn't help you at all when playing against top teams. it's actually kind of enjoyable to see krimz/olofm/JW/etc punish shroud in matches for playing MM too much. the skill gap is obvious he stopped streaming so much, so maybe he's starting to realize it too

Agree. Hiko said it and I agree that shroud really could be one of the best players if he set his mind to it. He has crazy natural ability and handles pressure quite well. As for his role, I don't really know what any roles C9 has anymore other than ShahZam AWP and Sean IGL. n0thing or Semphis could be IGL, or they could be lurk (who knows?), and shroud is probably supposed to play a supportish/fraggerish role.

hmm well what are shroud's main strengths? his clutching and crazy aim. who else has great clutching and crazy aim? shox (atleast in the VG days), krimz, kio to name a few. if I were shroud/sean I'd study how these players are used and try to use shroud in similar ways I think c9 is mentally lazy. I get the feeling they just practice 4-5 times a week and hope for the best come match time whereas other teams are far more proactive and try to come up with creative solutions

Actually, Sean says that he does watch demos of teams they will play and trys to figure out what to do against them. Don't think its mental laziness, just maybe shroud is being used the wrong way. I think n0thing may be finding his groove and Semphis is starting to frag as well. Just find out what shroud needs to play, and you have a team with tons of potential as is.

What I think Cloud9 needs to do with strats and IGLs is put Sean and Semphis in the role the same way Happy and shox do, and have the whole team watch the demos. The way I always saw Sean's IGL style was set plays good at the start of the round. Semphis' seemed much more scrimmy and fluid. I would have Sean basically start the strat, and mid round when Cloud9 needs to adjust have Semphis come in and move people around.
