The first DreamHack Winter European open qualifier took place today and four teams that will advance to the Closed Qualifier have been found – duttdutt, ESC, PENTA and FlipSid3.

Earlier today 256 teams started the battle for the first four slots in the main European DreamHack Winter qualifier, and after 6 rounds of the single elimination bracket the winners were been found.

Andreas "⁠znajder⁠" Lindberg & Dennis "⁠dennis⁠" Edman's duttdutt were the first to secure the slot, shooting past the lesser known teams in the early rounds and then taking out ALTERNATE 16-11 in Ro16 and Infused-mix 16-13 in the deciding quarter-final clash.

German side PENTA had a relatively easy way until the last match, only facing one somewhat known opponent in Russians ex-OneShot (now iNC) in Ro16. Their main challenge saw them take on Jacob "⁠pyth⁠" Mourujärvi's new Orbit lineup that had just beat Property-mix featuring Mikail "⁠Maikelele⁠" Bill, and they came out on top 16-10 on de_mirage

French mix-team called tahlesou looked like the surprise package of the day, as they nearly managed to snatch a slot ahead of Poles from ESC. Previously they took out Slaava "⁠Twista⁠" Räsänen's Recursive (who knocked out myXMG in the round before) and Martin "⁠cENTRYZ⁠" Brandal's mix team Temp.no, but ESC fought their way back from a 5-14 deficit on de_cbble and ended up winning in triple overtime 31-26.

SZPERO & co.'s nerves were tested in de_cbble 31-26 victory

The last quarter-final of the day initially included the most controversial team of the tournament, German side TDB who knocked out Planetkey Dynamics in Ro32 and Hungarians volgare in Ro16, both of whom lodged in cheating protests to the admins.

They then started playing their quarter-final match against FlipSid3 and were up 10-9, when the news came from the admins that they will be immediately disqualified from the tournament for cheating.

To slightly rectify the situation, FACEIT admins allowed volgare the chance to take on Flipsid3, which would decide who gets the fourth slot for the Closed qualifier, but Simon "⁠twist⁠" Eliasson's squad expectedly came out on top 16-12 on de_inferno.

The teams later played out the semi-finals and the final for seeding purposes, and FlipSid3 ended up beating PENTA and duttdutt to earn the best seed out of the qualified teams.

We faced these TDB players in a points cup not long ago and i wrote to the faceit team about this XN guy - On October 13, 2014 at 6:34 AM "So we faced off against this team: (faceit.com/teams/62290627-81aa-4ccf-8e75..) in the semi finals and they had a blatant cheater called "xN_o" (faceit.com/players/xN__o)(this guy) aimbotting 100%, ive checked the demo and theres no doubt hes cheating, and to continue using your service we'd like to get clearance if this guy in fact has or will be banned within a short time... as you can see on his stats page, within the last 4 days hes won 18games and 2 cups, but before that he lost 3 games out of 7 and placed 9-16th in a cup, which clearly indicates hes suddenly become alot "better" aka toggled his cheats... so if we as a team could get a response from the faceitteam if in fact this will be handled with, that would be much appreciated... - Morgo" ofcourse they didnt reply until i contacted them once again 2 days ago and this was somewhat the reply: Thanks for contacting us. To make matters worse, the first screw up the admins made was allowing you guys to play with cLy, which is not supposed to be allowed by Valve rules.. Bottom line is - online qualifiers like this for majors need to stop, no matter who runs them, even if it's ESL with the anti-cheat.

They really should, and we'll try to get something out of them about it. But like I said for me it's a safe assumption that Valve-banned players aren't/shouldn't be allowed at Valve funded events (all events if you ask me, but that's another story). From what I know it wasn't ESL's idea for Cologne (and as you can see cLy is still allowed to play EPS Germany), it was a Valve directive. No reason for it to be different now.

I don't see how a word from Valve is really needed, they've been banned, it's pretty obvious Valve won't let them play in a Major. Back in the days, playing together with a banned user was kinda a shame, but lately it turned into a new trend, and this is quite toxic for the whole community. If you agree to play with someone banned, you aren't better than the banned tard. Cheating should be considered as well as doping for real sports, and the same kind of punishments should be implemented. Not doing this, will hold back CS from getting major investments and sponsors, and will generate an highly corrupted scene, just like Cycling.

Completely agree! I've been saying this for about a year now, that the FaceIT Admins are absolute shit. We've lost to people in lesser important cups n stuff to people like this, but the admins don't care as long as the cup runs "smoothly" and we're not famous.
