NiP, VG, Virtus march on at Cph Games

The first round of the Upper Bracket has come to an end, with most of the favourite teams coming out on top.

Ninjas in Pyjamas had in the Round of 16 their toughest match so far at Copenhagen Games as they were unable to prevent Cph Wolves from reaching double digits on both maps, which was something new in this tournament. Still, the Swedes proved that they are one notch above the home side, coming out on top of de_nuke_se and de_dust2_se with 16-10 scorelines.

In the quarter-finals, the ESWC champions will tackle arch-rivals VeryGames, who moved past Temp.no with ease (16-6 on de_dust2_se, 16-11 on de_inferno_se).

In the battle between the two North American teams, Quantic Gaming proved to be the better side, sending their fellow countrymen to the Lower Bracket following 16-9 and 16-8 wins on de_train_se and de_dust2_se, respectively.

ScreaM will have to bring A-game for VG to stand a chance against NiP

After a convincing campaign at TECHLABS last weekend, Virtus.pro confirmed that they are a force to be reckoned with as they moved past ESC Gaming, who have been in disappointing form in this tournament. The Russian giants needed just two maps to best their opponents, picking up a 16-6 victory on de_dust2_se before winning on de_nuke_se 16-14.

The biggest surprise of this round came in the form of Anexis being stunned by Lemondogs. Sam "RattlesnK" Gawn's troops looked well off the pace throughout the match and allowed the Swedish team to run out 2-0 victors following two close maps (11-16 on de_dust2_se, 14-16 on de_mirage_go.)

There were also two very interesting all-Nordic clashes taking place as fnatic met Curse, and Western Wolves played against Epsilon. Against some people's expectations, fnatic had a very easy match against the Finnish side, winning de_mirage_go 16-2 before sealing the deal on de_dust2_se with a 16-10 triumph.

Western Wolves got off on the wrong foot against Epsilon as they found themselves down 1-0 on maps following a 16-10 loss on de_inferno_se, but the former Anexis side turned the tie around by winning de_train_se 16-6 and de_nuke_se 16-8.

They are not. The only people who ever insist on including Finland in Scandinavia are the rest of the world. Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland all agree that Finland isn't a part of it. It's the rest of the world that has some sort of hard-on for bunching us all up.
