NiP win DreamHack Summer 2013

Ninjas in Pyjamas have won another major title, defeating Epsilon 2-0 (16-5 on de_mirage_ce, 16-2 on de_train_se) in the DreamHack Summer 2013 grand final. That earned them a cheque for 70,000 SEK (~$10,800), while Epsilon will go home with 40,000 SEK (~$6,200).

Epsilon started well on de_mirage_ce by taking the pistol thanks to a quick attack, and after taking care of a problematic anti-eco, NiP surprised them with their practically standard third round famas buy. That turned the score around to 3-2 in favor of NiP, before one of the tournament's stars Jesper "jw" Wecksell brought out his AWP to secure a win in a 3-on-3 situation for 3-3.

Sadly, the young Swedes weren't able to put up much more resistance as NiP crushed all but one attack until the end of the half, taking an 11-4 lead into their T side. The world's best team won the pistol as well thanks to the quick trigger by Richard "Xizt" Landström and that was practically it as far as de_mirage_ce was concerned. Epsilon did take the first buy round but it didn't spark a comeback as NiP closed the deal right after that, 16-5.

GeT_RiGhT with an incredible 25:5 score in map two

The second map, de_train_se, was Epsilon's choice and it brought hope of a more interesting battle as Andreas "schneider" Lindberg's team only hours before defeated LDLC.com on the same ground to secure the spot in the final.

They lost the knife round, however, which forced them to start on the T side which NiP took full advantage of by going up 8-0. The next two rounds went to Epsilon, but NiP replied quickly, including round twelve when Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund scored four kills with the SCAR20 auto-sniper.

Epsilon's stand-in Martin "cENTRYZ" Brandal found himself in a 1-on-3 situation in the 13th round, but even though he turned that into a winnable 1-on-1 he couldn't outsmart Alesund who flanked him and put NiP up 11-2.

The final two rounds rounds also went to NiP, and so did the second pistol which even included a knife kill by Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg. That was practically the final touch, even though Epsilon had a 2-on-1 when they faced match point, but Alesund once again clutched and put NiP into celebratory mode for the second DreamHack event in a row.

Actually didn't expected I think. NiP struggled that much in group stage. I have to say they are lucky to survive. But, they just played better and better in the march, they just came back on track, and then showed us the true color of NiP: even on their bad days, they can still fight back! So congratulations to NiP, they deserve to win!

Sure it is. Isn't good time for Tactical FPS to be exact. Battlefield and CoD seems fine in situation with players and money. Because of developers mostly.

We can't compare CS with LoL or DotA, cause these games is more casual directed than CS, plus do not forget about Asian viewers, which is atleast 60% of sc2 auditory, they do prefer strategies and FPS isn't popular there.

Well i can't say that my knowledge in CoD pro scene is decent so probably you right, anyway we talked about ca$hmoney if im not mistaken and that is the main difference between of Valve and Activision. CoD is the main series of them, and they're really interesting to promote this game, Valve - not. That's why CoD has 1 million tournament and CS has not. Valve wants squeeze from GO as much money as they can without serious efforts. And their Operation PAYBACK is beautiful example of it.

They just don't want. Because dota2 is the goldmine for them. And then they will release their own console plus Half Life 3, so obviously they are have alot of more interesting in financial aspects projects.

They lost 1-2 in maps vs nip it was close.. WW top2 in two international tournaments 2013 and beat nip at this lan.

playing 1:2 with NiP on lan is so onlinish. just a few days ago taking a map off NiP was all any team could ever hope for, and now it's somehow considered a bad achievement lmao

don't make the same mistake everyone did with VP. you can't draw conclusions based on just one cup. i'm glad epsilon guys made a breakthrough @ DH, i hope they will perform just as well in the future, but one LAN does not make you a top2 team.

imo, the Swedish Cup yesterday contributed a lot to the success of both Nip and Epsilon in the final day. First day, they both struggled to find their form and suffered some bad defeat without much of the effort. However, when i watch them today, just like a whole new team attending the tournament, their aim is so on point and their momentum keep rolling after each winning round. I wish every team have the chance to play equally so that they can peak their form.

I wish CPH Wolves did a little better today, they seemed like they were so off as a team on D2, there were lots of dumb mistakes and the aggressive play style didn't work on CT the first few rounds yet they continued to try it until the end with no success, oh well there's always next DH

"This will be the era of Danish teams" -> not even a team in the semifinals. Also I like how nobody gives Epsilon the tribute they deserve. "mimimi LDLC and WW would have been better mimimi" Epsilon have beaten these two teams in BO3 games in a fair way. And CPHW already had their chance against NiP in a BO3 and lost. You're probably just mad because some months ago you were calling them cheaters and onliners. But yes, it's kind of strange to see a team, that was only mediocre in CS 1.6, becoming a finalist in CS:GO. Dunno, maybe it's just because of the game OR these guys evolved a lot and became much stronger.

well WW weren't a top team either in source, only Nico and gla1ve maybe, but they still didn't play on the level they play at csgo. the fact that it's a new game puts everyone at equal footing and helps you break through. it was so fucking boring in 1.6 with the same old 4-5 teams placing top4 all the time, i'm glad the game is so unpredictable right now.

whait..what? almost all tournaments so far were won by NiP, while in CS 1.6 it was very rare that a team dominated. Just look at all the different teams that managed to be on the TOP in CS 1.6: hltv.org/?pageid=135&userid=62854 But yes, CS 1.6 wasn't "random". It was easier to rank up the teams. Still it wasn't "boring and predictable" because the teams on the top were very close and the ranking changed very often. But IMO it was more like in a real sport. There was a ranking, but it changed from time to time with the evolution of the teams (and not just randomly). In CS:GO we still can't draw any true ranking...it's just NiP dominating and after that it becomes very random. IMO THAT'S boring. And I don't think it would be a good thing/sign for a competitive game to be completely random...

while in CS 1.6 it was very rare that a team dominated. not sure if trolling or... there were quite a few teams who dominated the 1.6 scene. they weren't as untouchable as nip (others were capable of beating them and taking a map off them was nothing special), but they still won the majority of events. keep in mind NiP have been around for less than a year. having one team place top1 at all LAN's during 10 months isn't as boring as having the same 4-5 teams place top4 for 4 years in a row. In CS:GO we still can't draw any true ranking...it's just NiP dominating and after that it becomes very random. IMO THAT'S boring. no, that's exciting. it makes you actually want to watch all the games, instead of just waiting for semifinals. no one can predict who's going to finish in top4 the next LAN, the competition is extremely fierce, and we see new top teams popping out of nowhere all the time (Epsilon, LDLC, CPH). if only we had more LAN's...

You are aware of that NiP have won every LAN tournament they have ever attended since the release of CS:GO? But there is no secret that athletes of any sort usually preform better on their home soil, when they have the fans cheering for them.

Really impressive how NiP pulled together during the match vs teamX and recomposed for the following matches. I really doubted they would reach the grand finals. WP NiP

Am I the only one that thinks that Epsilon played completely dire in their matches versus NIP? They made uncountable unnecessary errors. I haven't seen their matches versus other teams, but if they played the same versus them, I can't believe they even won a single match.
