New update changes movement

The latest update shipped by Valve for CS:GO has brought some important changes to the ingame movement.

From now on, player acceleration no longer follows a pre-established value, but is instead determined by the player's "active weapon max speed", which in theory could have an impact on the way the teams' tactics are designed.

Most of the other changes only affect the Arms Deal, but it is also worth noting that when a player commits suicide, he now gets no cash for that round.

Below you can find the patch notes for this update:

[BRAVO]
Added Competitive Scorecard to the Official Competitive match end scoreboard if the user owns an Operation Bravo Coin. (Previously only visible in the Operation Bravo Coin tooltip).

[GAMEPLAY]
  • Suiciding now results in 0 cash awarded for the round.
  • Player acceleration is now determined by the player's active weapon max speed.
  • [MAPS]
    Fixed bugs in Gwalior, Cache, Ali, Seaside and Agency.
    [MISC]
  • Fixed stock items not displaying possessive information in the freeze panel.
  • Fixed some water material fallbacks to not reflect the 2d skybox which caused bad reflections with low shader settings.
  • Fixed squished weapon kill icons on Mac.
  • Fixed the highest quality items in a Collection failing to be filtered out of the Trade Up Contract interface.
  • Fixed a memory leak in client code that also caused performance drops during long gameplay sessions.
  • New decorated weapon added to the Assault Collection.

    nope. That's always been the case. The ACCELERATION is now affected by that value, instead of having the same value for every weapon.

    It's actually a little above 11% for the M4 :P Anyway it would be like taking the current sv_accelerate value of 5.6 and making it 5.0 whilst playing with the M4. If you ask me it's a small but definitely noticeable difference. With the AK the difference is larger and snipers even greater. I like the tactical options this movement change gives and also the counter-strafe stopping speeds for all weapons are now consistent. Whether it's enough to satisfy remains to be seen, I proposed changes to sv_accelerate and sv_friction but we'll see how things go from here.

    Well, first of all, thanks for staying on the matter instead of dismissing it as some people said you did. You are right, it remains to be seen if this small change will be enough in terms of making movement more punishable. This largely depends on the interaction of the new acceleration and tagging imo - where are the tagging mechanics defined? As for this making movement more precise, how exactly does the new acceleration method influence counter-strafing - I mean, why would it be more consistent now than it was before? And a single strafe still feels somewhat slide-y, so I hope you will keep an eye on playing with the movement commands (what values do you currently have in mind btw.? sv_accelerate 5, sv_friction 5, sv_airaccelerate 20, sv_staminalandcost 0.05 is what I enjoy).

    I don't think the acceleration has anything to do with the linear portion of the movement. The acceleration is the speed at which you reach the linear state. It should make stopping and starting feel a lot different I'd assume, and will hopefully make angle strafing much more viable, which if so, top 1 NEO here we go ;)

I bet you still can't do anything but jump up and down on the spot and everybody still has the acceleration of a super car. movement still broken, AWP still broken, autosniper still broken, glock still broken.

    After almost 3 years of development CSGO still misses basic aspects that make a good CS-game. 10 years of CS e-sports history and valve still doesn't know what these aspects are and what the community wants.     Why don't people ever realize that the Autosniper is expensive and therefor it is allowed to be a great weapon. It's not as if you see everyone buying an autosniper every round, because it's so accessible and easy to use. The guns in Go are pretty balanced. As for the glock, now the USP has been introduced, the glock has been less powerful (in comparison) and you see a lot more CT pistol round wins.

    there is a technique called "stutter step" which is so much more useful in GO then other version, where you basically hit A or D (depending on which side you are moving)to immediately stop strafing and get 100% accuracy in a shorter time.

    autosniper i agree 100% needs a nerf. i may be in the minority, but i don't mind how good the p90 is at close range. for me, the problem is that the shottys and smgs (particularly UMP and P90) are more accurate at long range then i think they should be

    some impressions: - deagle has really a different feeling now, did they drop an undocumented change? Or just a collateral effect due the new acceleration? - M4 > AK : M4 is now way faster than AK during moving shots, maybe AK needs a little boost in acceleration compared to M4 (just some decimals), it feels a tiny bit too slow. - performances: no more stuttering after 30min of gameplay on old machines/laptops (checked it with my 6 y/o laptop). Not really a fps boost, but for sure they solved a really annoying issue. About acceleration: people keep confusing it with max speed, which was already calculated by using the weapons weight, so i want to clarify that acceleration is the rate needed for reaching the max speed, so if maxspeed=100 the acceleration is the rate at which the velocity of the model changes in the 0-100 time interval. So basically before, with some heavy weapons we had a "peak" in acceleration because the same rate was shared between everything, now instead of that we have a linear curve. Long story short: reaction times+aim > ADADADAD

    I don't feel any difference in movement after update, really. These 1-2 or even less milliseconds doesn't improve anything in gameplay. Valve could just wrote down in change log that "movement is fixed now" and community will go ape sh*t - "n1" "at last it's playable" "no peaking woohoo, no adadad" I was 1.6 player myself, i don't want them to make 1.6 with better graphics, but movement in GO is so broken. It still feels like rollerskating + peaking advantage. Just recently played some cs:s, man that game does feel like counter strike, i hated a lot of things there (like any other 1.6 player) but it felt more skill based than go (like more AIM based) yeah and hit registration was better. CS:GO feels like Quake with lags, i still like many things valve have implemented in it (matchmaking, smokes, less wallbang, some map improvements (like nuke) ...) I still think that GO is enjoying to watch, but playing isn't as fun.

    i think it does make a noticeable difference, but is very subtle yes. Improves the game and is a great update in my eyes. I really like that the time to 'change direction' completely is uniform for all weapons now.

    Of course it's a great update but really not a game changer. Still i don't get that 64tick thing, cause in really bad, laggy 1.6 and cs:s servers hit registration is a lot better than in official valve servers with 15-20ms. My to do list for valve would be: Hit registration P90 nerf (make it less accurate in distance) Make GO more colorful Remove post processing & fog completely (give us option to choose)* Movement (make weapons less accurate while running & a bit slower movement itself) More old maps for competitive (de_tuscan, de_forge, maybe a cool remake of de_prodigy for competitive gaming.. dunno) Make it free to play & improve VAC * there are commands but they're sv_cheat 1 protected, but you can try in botgame for yourselves sv_cheat 0 mat_postprocess_enable 0 (gives also fps boost) fog _ override 1 fog_enable 0

    For the color, I recommend you to do what I do nowadays. When I am about to play, I increase saturation to 75 or 100(normally 75 because 100 it's very agressive xD) and then when I quit gaming I go back not to 0, but to 25 and I leave it there, because if you go to 0 it will look very crappy because you were seeing at 75 or 100. It isn't something new, but it's worth the shot. Do this only for csgo, as other games won't need it. For nvidia it's called digital vibrance, but I play on laptop so, even if I use nvidia, that option won't show. So if you have intel graphics too (nvidia+intel), go for graphic options on desktop. You should find it somewhere on color improvements. If you play on desktop, you shouldn't have a problem to find it on ATI (saturation) or NVIDIA (digital vibrance).

    Go for the intel graphics control panel (the blue one on the desktop) and choose monitor, then the third label, something to do with color. Then, luminosity 0 (laptop luminosity max), contrast 50, gamma 1,0; hue (or something like that) 0, and saturation 75-100 on gaming, and 25 when back to normal. The saturation value for gaming you just have to adapt to your preference, I played 100 but I noticed that the red color becomes very distracting, especially on nuke. So 75 seems like a good choice.
