DreamHack announce first invites

DreamHack have invited VeryGames, compLexity and Astana Dragons to its Winter event where they will join NiP, SK Gaming and n!faculty who qualified previously.

NiP secured themselves a spot at the upcoming SteelSeries CS:GO Championship by winning the Summer event, while SK Gaming, formerly Lemondogs, and n!faculty qualified through DreamHack events in Bucharest and Valencia.

With only six invitations available for the tournament, DreamHack have now used half of them as they have awarded direct entries to the $250,000 tournament to VeryGames, compLexity and Astana Dragons.

VeryGames will return to DreamHack Winter this November

DreamHack also announced that the top two placing teams at this weekend's RC EMS One Fall 2013 Finals, who are not yet qualified or invited, will also receive spots for the main tournament.

With three more invitations left, the other five spots will be given out through an on-site BYOC qualifier, TECHLABS Moscow, and online qualifiers which are yet to be announced.

Sweden NiP France VeryGames United States coL Ukraine Astana Dragons
Sweden n!faculty Sweden SK Gaming Other Invite Other Invite
Other Invite Other BYOC Other BYOC Europe RC EMS ONE
Europe RC EMS One Europe TECHLABS Moscow Other Online Other Online

DreamHack also announced information regarding the on-site BYOC qualifier, which will likely have multiple top teams in attendance as well, today. You can find it on their website.

DreamHack Winter will boast a $250,000 prize purse and will take place at Elmia in Jönköping, Sweden beginning on November 28th with the grand finals set for December 1st.

I'm pretty sure Complexity deserves to be there based on results. Moreover, they have fewer avenues to qualify due to their location. This is exactly how the invitations should be used.

coL can hang with any team out there. Go look at their match results/history. Just because they are from another region doesn't make them bad. It's about the players/skill not the flag.

I do not really agree here. If u put it like this, tournaments could only have invited NiP 3-4 month ago, because no other team had a chance of winning at that point. You've gotta give teams time to improve and I think Refuse deserves a spot if they're practicing hard!

Not to rock your boat but they went to two lans and won only one map per lan as far as i remember so I doubt that can be counted as top 10, but nevertheless i would love to see them on DH anyhow.

i'm pretty sure a top4 placement in EMS One finals this weekend, would guaranteed them a spot in DreamHack Winter. 3 of 8 teams in EMS One finals have already earned a spot in DreamHack (VG, NiP, n!faculty). So there will 2 invites to win for either Na`Vi, Universal Soldiers, Party Daddlers, fnatic and CPH Wolves (depends who ends up bein' higher on this tournament).

For all of those who keeps saying that US and Na`Vi should be invited alongside fnatic. None of these three squads should be invited, that'd be a catastrofy. More teams like Copenhagen Wolves and wGG, teams who can actually win some games.

They might be community wise. This is my opinion, and I don't see them there just yet - although they have the potential. It's a $250,000 tournament, the best team should be there, not the biggest names (like fnatic, Natus Vincere, G5 and what not) if they cannot compete.

Fnatic and NaVi can both compete. Did you forget the last Dreamhack? - NaVi 3-4th place tied with Astana. - Fnatic beating NiP in group stage.... Both of those teams deserve a spot.

Fnatic did beat NiP in the group stage yes, but let me cut it into pieces for you, so you can understand why I'm not counting them in as possible contenders for anything as of now: They DID beat NiP in overtime. That was one map though. It's been some time since that event. The past few weeks the fnatic line-up has been licking their own asses like apes do with their fleas. IF they start playing well again, I'd happily change my pov because they definitely do have potential. I simply don't see Na`Vi besting it out with the world elite. Nerves were on for both parties at the last DreamHack, as Marik and Sukhariev have both played with Starix, Zeus and ceh9 for more than 4 years. Both teams were new at that point and anything could really happen. Look at the past month, would you? AD has been playing on a really high level (top 8), Na`Vi simply hasn't. That's my take on it. I respect your opinion, which is why I'm just as entitled to have mine.

I think we need the biggest names, because of viewership. If the rumors are true, and IEM are considering Counter Strike back then we need viewers to prove it. + It would be a shame if the biggest tournament in csgo so far would have less than 50k viewers :)

XTS is pretty decent but I wont go to far by saying they are top 5 NA. Sometimes their play are inconsistent. I think its due to the team individual ego and communication issue.

and they beat them 2-0 in a bo3 recently where they humiliated them 16-3 and 16-2 or 1 i believe i was refering to ESEA Lan, where they got 2nd and even took a map from NiP

yeah, but they were also getting ddos'd and i can tell you that everyone in NA still regards coL as the #1 team with the old Denial team candidate for close 2nd if they put together results online. coL losing 1 map in an online league doesnt really mean anyhting. At top levels any team has the ability to take 1 map if things are going their way

So do I. I just replied to his statement. coL is definitely the best team in NA and they do deserve the invite.

I really want to see VoxEminor from Australia get invited. They won the MSI beat it qual and are heading overseas for that and want to partake in DH winter. This is most likely the first time an Australian CS team has traveled overseas for events in many years.

Dreamhack should make damn sure all of the following teams have a slot (I list all for completeness, I know some of them already have slots): NIP, VG, AD, fnatic, Navi, US, Mouz, Wolves, SK, n!faculty, ENCE, Complexity, Denial. The remaining spots are more debatable, but I'd probably go with WeGotGame, Mystik and LGB. Edit: switched LGB for Kick.

Team like these should definitely be found in the tournament: NiP, VG, AD, Wolves, SK, n!faculty, Complexity, [wGG], LGB, Mystik, k1ck, Mouz and Vox Eminor. Teams like fnatic, US, Na`Vi and so forth are candidates.
