SteelSeries announce Rival mouse

SteelSeries have announced their new optical gaming mouse called Rival, which features 1ms response rate, adjustable CPI between 50-6500 and much more.

SteelSeries Rival closely resembles the wildly popular Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0, which was used by a wide array of top players but was discontinued a few years ago by the software giant.

SteelSeries have now developed an optical gaming mouse with 1ms response rate, 1000Hz polling rate, adjustable CPI at 50-6500 and a sensor that can handle 50Gs or 200 inches per second.

SteelSeries Rival. Deadly precision.

The mouse comes with six programmable buttons and two zones that can be illuminated with SteelSeries Engine and portray 16.8 million different colors. SteelSeries Rival also features rubber side grips.

SteelSeries Rival weighs 128 grams, is 40mm tall, 70mm wide and 145mm long. It comes with a 2 meters long soft rubber cable, and can be pre-ordered here. More information is on SteelSeries' product page.

Lets see if it has any built in prediction or positive/negative hardware acceleration, we might see the first Steelseries mouse that makes it onto the list of Mice with flawless sensors: esreality.com/index.php?a=post&id=202466..

Seriously do we need SteelSeries marketing out there, for what reason this deserve a thread, SS paid hltv or what ? It's probably gonna be a mouse with a lot of default like 90% of SS mice, the lenght already seems really restrective, the weight is pretty ridiculous, the sensor idk, i wait for some review. If you guys want a REAL mouse, look forward for the Ninox aurora in 1 or 2 months, this mouth is totally flawless, the perfection for small/medium hands people.

esreality.com/post/2487925/new-gaming-mo.. The product is pretty much finish, this should be out for december, of course for eu, read it, there is even a bundle with a special mouse pad and it's so cheap for this super quality.

well he linked the speccs and the sensor is the mostly commonly used a3090 which most of the mice these day used I am not sure why i should buy it then. The shape looks a little bit like the old logitch g1 or the razer krait/copperhead which had a awful shape for me The first prototypes he had looked like the the intelli explorer mice esreality.com/files/placeimages/2011/846.. I am confused how the final one will look like. If thats the final version hmmm not sure if my hand would like it esreality.com/files/placeimages/2013/951..

The 3090 overused really ? not at all actually, it's the best sensor actually i think, and you usually find a mouse with it for 50/60 box or more and of course there is other flaw like prediction, accel, lod etc, here this is flawless in every way, it's basically a WMO but with a super high malfunction speed 4.9/ms something. The shape is close to the WMO actually, the back is different that is all, again it's a mouse for small and medium hand user.

Actually Aurora has slightly bigger mx300/G1 shape which is the best mouse shape ever imo. And btw you can use Aurora's internals into WMO 1.1 which has awesome shape too. i.imgur.com/4MWgCyG.jpg i.imgur.com/WUFCZYh.jpg The gallery: erasem.com/gallery/ (Please note these are outdated photos, but the shape remains the same. The main difference is that on the final version, the logo glows, and the sides are no longer transparent).

I've now been on both sides of the table. I've been thankful for the time SteelSeries made things possible for us, when I worked at HLTV.org and I'm happy we can still make this possible. Revenue for salaries, travel, and hotel when covering events. It all comes from the sponsors of this website. Does that give these companies a chance to advertise? Sure. Is that so odd? No.

Nice. Well the previous SS mice for a fact have this problem. I used to own 2 Xais and they both had it. And in every technical review I've seen (not some gamer saying it feels good and I shoot headshot now) they have confirmed it's due to the sensor. But this mouse has a different sensor, so it might actually be good :)

idk, ss website ADVANCED OPTICAL SENSOR At the heart of Rival is the Avago ADNS 3310 optical sensor. The 3310 promises zero hardware acceleration, offering true 1:1 tracking and precise movements no matter how fast things get during the heat of battle. The CPI is best-in-class with adjustments from 50 to 6500.

if it's a strong sensor, performing well in its dpi range, it only matters the technology. and this optical they use will be clean and easy. it lookS and reads superb if you ask me personal and i am a micemaniac. XD

What does it matter to HLTV users? They will still use 400 CPI/DPI on their mice anyway...

that's true, but some also use 800 or 1600 and ingamesense 1 or 2. with this high dpi range you could just set your ingamesense on 1 and do everything else with the dpi range.

I would like to see a comparision between DeathAdder 2013 and Rival. Maybe it's going to Rival DeathAdder for the spot of the No. 1 mouse :)

No I didn't, maybe it is because for the same money I can get more from a DA, than any Zowie mice... Also - kotaku.com/moneysaver-one-shot-kotakus-p..

You do realise that the results are based on a poll ? Razer's facebook and twitter page linked to the otaku article .Razer Deathadder is a good mouse , but because zowie or any other mouse did not win the poll doesn't make their mice bad .

I never said it does make them bad, of course it is going to win Razer, since they're that big. I just said Zowie doesn't offer anything special...

+1, because gaming is about skill, not the products used. As long as the computer can handle it and the sensitivity is comfortable and at least 400 DPI, anyone can play good CS.

So just because other people are means you have to? All you're proving is that you can't play for shit without an overpriced mouse. You suck at CS without an expensive mouse. That's what you're saying.

I played CS 1.0 with Genius ball mouse and in Quake 3 I was 3rd in WCG 2003 in my country with it. tell me more how I can`t play with bad mouse on the event I found out how great IE 3.0 is and sticked with it for many years but please, don`t cry when you die all the time in CS, because your enemy is using zowie/logitech/steel series mouse

Don't worry, you'll eventually find out how crap your current mouse is, once you have tasted quality, regardless of their price. If you're that guy that only plays gungame and other shit, then yeah I can understand your point, otherwise it doesn't make sense.

Then do go ahead and send me one. I wouldn't mind buying one if I don't have to pay 3-4 times its actual worth. It takes practise to put move your cursor to the right place at the right time, not an expensive mouse. Mine has at least 400 DPI, glides smoothly, and clicks well. And that's all I'll ever need.

And for everyone preaching Zowie, Zowie is rubbish. Until they introduce realistic dpi steps that gamers want, I will never buy any of their products. For instance the Zowie FK has high input lag on 450 dpi, the dpi is also different from FK to FK because of the way they made the lens (it's more between 500-550 dpi), 1150 and 2300 are not dpi steps I would ever want to use and I'm sure there's alot of others that agree with that. Also I should mention that all of their new products that actually have good specs are made for either serious claw grippers or tiny asian girls with small palm grips.

Using my AM ~2 years(bought it 02.12) and only thing happened - glides were erased to shit. And I have 20cm hand and have no problem by using it and don't give a shit about DPI or other stuff. PS: can't find in-game sensitivity with new DPI? Here you go: "old sens" / "new DPI" * "old DPI" = "new sens".

I got it today , and its feels nice and all BUT! when u press both M1 and M2 it stickstogheter in the front of the M1/M2 buttons, and gets somewhat stuck and makes a horrible sound, easy fic just grind em down, and one tapping feel 2 hard also. Might be the crappy switches or the shell itself, im sure they are gonna remake the shell somewhat because of this, dont buy it yet until the clicking issue is done with

It is the 1st Pixart implementation of the avago design for future LED optical mice. pixart.com.tw/product_data.asp?product_i.. I am looking forward to see the Mionix(avior 7000) and CM storm implementations as well in my quest for the "~flawless" 800 dpi.

I've bought this monster over a week ago to swap it with SS Sensei MLG edition (Sensei MLG is a great mice, but, unfortunately, has positive hardware acceleration). SS Rival is wonderful. After few days of using this mice, I don't notice any jittering/skipping/snapping effects in pointer motion at all. And as I'm using clothed mousepad (Qck+ Heavy) using optical mice is more preferable I think (laser sensors are more sensitive to dust). Also, it's true that this mice doesn't have hardware acceleration.
