compLexity send Dragons packing

compLexity have just upset Astana Dragons as they won the nerve-wrecking battle for the semi-finals 2-1 (9-16 de_nuke, 16-7 de_dust2, 16-12 de_inferno).

The quarter-final between Astana Dragons and compLexity started off on de_nuke once again with the CIS team being first on the less favorable side.

That did not seem to scare Yegor "markeloff" Markelov's team, as they rocketed to a 3-0 lead thanks to the pistol round and Markelov's save of a scary P250 buy from compLexity in the second round.

After an exchange outside, Astana tried to boost on top of cat, which was dealt with by compLexity, who picked their opponents off one by one and in the following round, AD tried to do exactly the same thing, which was why Braxton "swag" Pierce managed to read out the play and get two easy frags from behind.

The CIS team was starting to lose one duel after another and with an exchange of rounds after a few of them won by the Americans, the score was sitting at 6-4 for compLexity.

Hiko was  the main factor behind numerous rounds throughout the match

Two three-versus-three situations were dealt with by the Ukrainian-Russian-Kazakh team and with another pick-off round and two anti-ecos, Astana Dragons took a lead 8-6.

The final round of the first half was almost going in the way of compLexity, but then Dauren "AdreN" Kystaubayev managed to take four quick kills in main to turn the round around for a comfortable 9-6 lead.

A vent rush through squeaky door in the second pistol round tied the score up at 9-9, but that was just about all the American-Canadian team managed to take to their side, as Kystaubayev and Mihail "Dosia" Stolyarov combining for three actions, which eventually resulted in a won map at 16-9.

Switching over to de_dust2, a good defense on mid by compLexity, who were starting as Counter-Terrorists once again, gave the pistol round over to the Americans and essentially two more afterwards for free.

Two pick-offs in the beginning of round number four ensured a 4-0 scoreline, although that was until Astana Dragons started to pick the game up and racked up five rounds in a row thanks to slow strategies, trying to go for picks at one place and eventually going to the other bombsite.

An exchange of players resulted to a one-versus-one situation of Kory "semphis" Friesen, who managed to kill Stolyarov from behind for a 5-5 scoreline. The following two rounds were split between the teams, while the rest was going compLexity's way as Sean "sgares" Sgares and Martin "hiko" Spencer each have an amazing four-kill round in the remaining three.

n0thing made a lot of quick three-kill actions

The A site was left alone for Astana when they tried pushing both lower and upper tunnels in the second pistol round, although compLexity decided to smoke them off and take the A bombsite without killing anyone.

That helped Spencer take another great round to the hands of his team and with two following anti-ecos, the American-Canadian team was looking at a 12-6 lead before the teams split two rounds again thanks to a wonderous P250 buy on Astana's side.

Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert saved a difficult situation when both Markelov and Emil "kucher" Akhundov were holding AWPs on each site, which got compLexity eight match points.

They only needed one though, as the following round was a complete desperation buy coming from Markelov and company, which did not work out and the match went to the third map after a 16-7 scoreline.

de_inferno was the third and final map. A push to the B bombsite was met with a strong defense, from which Astana Dragons took advantage to take an early lead to 3-0 despite Friesen going crazy on a P250 eco.

compLexity kept having problems with getting into the bombsites, although at 5-0, they finally had their first break into the game with two A bombsite attacks in a row, reducing their opponent's lead to three rounds.

That lead was slowly reducing every second round as a few unexpected situations were dealt with by Gilbert. Astana then tried to play agressive on banana, which backfired at them as both of the players holding it died instantly after coL's attack.

ANGE1 & co have to settle for a 5th-8th finish at the biggest tournament of the year

Thanks to a three man save in that round, Astana were able to buy again, although that was not enough because of a molotov thrown near the boxes on the B bombsite, which killed Stolyarov and allowed the Americans to get into the site and tie the game at 6-6.

compLexity continued to play very well together, they managed to win all three remaining rounds, using the molotov again in an A attack that time. With Gilbert's triple kill at 8-6 and a won one-versus-one clutch, coL went to the other side with a 9-6 lead.

Even though Friesen was put into a good position at A, boosted in the corner of the site, he was not able to turn the second pistol round around for his team.

The game was tied up again even after a scary eco by the American number one, but they retook the lead the round afterwards after an afterplant two-versus-two retake.

compLexity will meet fnatic in the second semi-final tomorrow

Friesen's triple in an unlikely four-versus-four over at the B bombsite helped compLexity get onto a three round lead, followed by yet another one because of an eco Astana Dragons were on.

An early kill on the CIS team in the beginning of the round was almost the last nail into their coffin, as they were not able to hold yet another two-versus-two with the bomb down.

Stolyarov saved the day for AD once, as he won a one-versus-one on the A bombsite, forcing an eco on compLexity's side, making it 14-12. That time Braxton "swag" Pierce stepped up to win an unlikely one-versus-two on the B bombsite.

-push B from compLexity was met with a strong defense, 2-0

-semphis going crazy 4 kills in eco P250 + m4a4
- 4-0, col having problems getting into the bombsite
- 5-0, col finally getting into B and then to A twice in a row, 5-2
- even though col got to the bombsite, couldnt win a 3v2, 6-2
- 3v2 on B was taken care of by n0thing, 6-3, ad eco, 6-4
- an agressive banan a play backfired at AD, 6-5, three man save
- a molotov helps col tie it all up 6-6
- col playing together well as they were using the molotov again to take a lead 7-6
- n0thing with a triple kill 8-6, saving col a round again in a 1v1 to take a comfortable 9-6
- semphis wasnt able to turn the round around from the boost inside A, astana tie it all up despite a scary eco by coL
- coL retaking the lead after retaking A site afterplant 2v2
- semphis with a triple in an unlikely four-vs-four retake on B bombsite alongside another round 12-9, 13-9 eco
- an early kill on AD was the of last nails to the coffin, as they weren_t able to hold another 2v2, 14-9
- AD taking the rouns to last seconds , this time works out
- Dosia saves the day for AD as he won a 1v1, 14-11, forcing an eco on coL side, a scary one, nothing though, 14-12
- a B push ends up in yet anohter 2v2, swag wins 1v2 in the end in a nerve breaking battle
- the final round saw n0thing reeading out the game, picking a triple kill in the end, making it 16-12

The final round saw Gilbert read the game perfectly, as he knew about the plans of AD and got another triple kill near the mid area, making the final score 16-12 and getting at least an extra $12,000 for the top four finish.

2 years - 100% hltv.org/news/6001-top-20-players-of-201.. hltv.org/news/8048-top-20-players-of-201.. and he played in 1.6 in 2012 (Na`Vi were in ALL tournaments finals, 7 tournaments = 7 finals) may be he wasn't a top 1-3 in 2012,but at least a top 10 player in the world

Did i say that? I've just said AD was the third best Team in CS GO before DHW, shortly behind NiP and VG. That's what Thorin said as well. coL deserved the win today against AD and i really hope that coL will win against fnatic as well.

You probably think his talking about the stats and not the fact they removed edward last week. Now with 8th place they are left to disband, if they got 8th with edward they would be justified in moving forward but now they can just wonder what could have been.

markeloff need to play with AWP immediately the team need it. Dosia is insane always making frags. It seems to me that they need to cut Adren. and obviously kucher was not the best choice. by the way Gz for COL. they have a real chance to reach the final!

The table with the scores showes the true story. Kucher is not on par. He did not play bad, he is just not on the par with the competition. For sgares its ok to have that kind of stats, he is the caller. AD were simply outgunned, exactly what has happened to them against VG and NIP on their losses. Congrats to complexity, they played very well and deserved the win, but it was AD's game to lose, not the American's to win.

It wasn't their lucky day. I really hope AD keeps on going. I really like this line up and I'm pretty sure they all are able of being one of the best team out there. Cheers!

sgares could do better, but he is definitely not dragging coL down. he pulled through when it was needed and is their strat caller, and the reason that coL was able to take down the euros using different strats.

Don't get me wrong, I know that sgares is a good player, but come on... he is on the very very bottom of the scoreboard for quite long.

yeah that is true. If he stepped up all the time he could make a large effect on coL's performance. But honestly I think the key for coL to keep winning after the quarters here is for everyone to have their peak play at the same time - like semphis, n0thing, swag, hiko, sean were all having their peaks at different times which is great, but to win consistently they all need to do great at the same time.

So, in case there are some people who didn't follow the scene or what happened with AD, here's your formula of success™ by a typical CIS-minded team like AD: 1. Boldly steal good players from decent teams to create your so-called "DREAM TEAM". 2. Kick one of the top fraggers (in a game where all you need is run and gun©) out of the team just days before the biggest tournament in history of the game in terms of prize money and substitute him by a mediocre friend of yours for the chemistry purposes (I guess, the word "chemistry" is used in its primary meaning here, btw). 3. Throw a match to dodge a favorite which you have already beaten in the past and take your chances against the squad you have never played before. 4. Struggle against the Americans... (seriously, wtf). 5. GO HOME AND DISBAND (or kick/add players if/when there will be more $250k tournaments from VALVe). 6. GOTO 1 Here you have it, guys. That's how we do it in our Soviet Russia! P.S.: Good job, CompLexity. You deserved this victory.

Didn't mean to sound offensive or anything. As I said in the P.S., coL really deserved to win. But just from a purpose standpoint of creating the AD team to achieve nothing less than a top-1 of the world with all their preparations (living together in a gaming house, playing 24-7, bootcamping, etc) seems really shameful to me. Nothing to take away from the Americans, once again - I hope they do well in the coming matches and wish them good luck against the titans.

Seriously, first off big congrats to col, it was a simple may the best win methode as in every sports match and they did in this case and on this day, point. And in terms of astana i can only shake my head again what some guys here talking about. do you have a small fart of knowledge how strong a team like AD really is? It's not always about messing everything team-wise up after one, two or even ten big defeats on lan. if a team has chemistry and such a high level potential as ad has right now, had with or without edward, with or without anybody of this russain sector on this level, you can't talk them down as they would be a few noobish tards and ofc they should stick together. ad is also not inconsistent, they played a pretty strong tournament against the world's best teams and the highest tournament skill level of the year and this result is just a breath of reality how things can run in such a big tournament, but please stop questioning those high skilled teams only cause they do not fill your expectations fully in every tournament. if you are fans than support your teams and stop whining every big defeat into the ground.

this is Karma for AD,very wrong. You can't kick a player before Dreamhack when he contribute to team qualifications. Was my favourite team, but has not the scence of honor. Glad they lost! Deserved it! Worst change in the history of CS, kick Edward bring kucher, like when mTw kicked Sunde If you want to win a tournament bring Guardian instead of kucher. Can't win something at this level only my friendship. angel-kucher Nice Game coL!
