DreamHack Summer with $30k

DreamHack have announced the $30,000 CS:GO tournament to be held at their Summer event in Jönköping, Sweden on June 14-16.

A total of sixteen teams will take part in the DreamHack SteelSeries Championship, eight of whom have been directly invited. Six slots will be determined in the coming days, and two will make it through an on-site BYOC qualifier.

DreamHack will once again use the GSL-style group stage format with four groups of four teams each, while the playoffs will be played out in a single elimination best-of-three bracket.

Sweden NiP Sweden fnatic Denmark dignitas France Titan
Sweden ex-LGB Poland Virtus.pro Ukraine Na`Vi Ukraine HellRaisers

For those hoping to qualify on-site via the BYOC qualifier, check out the official announcement for more information. The BYOC qualifier will be played out during Saturday, June 14. Main tournament takes place on June 15-16.

The $30,000 prize pool, which is almost identical to last year's event, will be distributed among the top eight finishers in the tournament as seen below:

1. $10,000
2. $5,000
3-4. $3,500
5-8. $2,000

DreamHack will also play host to ESPORTSM 2013/2014 Grand Finals, where 100,000 SEK will be given out to the winners with Sweden's best teams going head-to-head for the prize.

HLTV.org will travel on-site to provide you with full coverage of the event. More information, such as how the six undetermined slots will be given out, will be released in the coming days.

to all the idiots here, dreamhack guys organise like 3 or 4 events in the hole year and this is not new it has been like that since 1.6 2 or 3 tournaments with good prizes then in the end of the year they came with dreamhack winter the biggest event idiots so dreamhack summer is something and dreamhack winter is something else and if they made dreamhack summer more prize then dh winter event will lose the shine cause they try always to make sure its the last event in the hole year with the biggest prize

you can, when we (the community) are spending a shitload of money on their skins, including the so-called eSports keys. It was quite obvious there would be another valve funded tourney coming up, since we had the eSports cases, and DHS was an obvious pick

ESWC needs better organization, imho. Seems a bit too caotic to hold a major. But who knows, maybe then they would get their shit together. It would be cool to have majors in different countries though, so in part I do agree.

I'm starting to doubt Valve concerning their will to promote the competitive scene in CS:GO. First of all, they alredady made millions with the skins, operations, stickers, tags etc... The game is more than profitable. Second, only two different esports case have been released, against 7 for the other type, which obviously limit the amount of money the players can give to contribute to the esports scene. Furthermore, one of these two cases is not even dropped anymore. Also, the skins available in the only esports case currently dropped are not as popular as the other cases, which brings even less money. And now DreamHack doesn't even get a contribution from Valve for their second major event??? What the fuck? We need at least 3 majors per year, that's a minimum if we want the scene to grow stronger. Ideally, we would also need kind of an ultimate tournament like "The International" for Dota2, but I'm not even asking for that... Wake up Valve.

" Furthermore, one of these two cases is not even dropped anymore." Both Cases are still dropped. The stickers from EMS Katowice meant that all 16 organisations got a split of the profits. I wouldn't worry too much about it. There is still plenty of time, and DH usually state themselves that their Summer LAN is the smaller of the two, so perhaps maybe this deterred Valve from it. ESL have recently expanded to America, so I have a feeling the next major will be heading that way. I am sure there is more information I don't know that is still being pegged away, but I do know that Valve are working with tournament organisers more closely these days. May/June/July for Valve is currently filled with DotA2 events (May the qualifiers for TI4, June, DreamHack, ESL One etc, & July TI4 itself), so I have a feeling their priorities lie elsewhere currently.

"Both Cases are still dropped" Have you got anything to prove that? Because I've never seen the red one dropped since the blue one is out, prices for the red one have drastically increased since january, and quantity is incredibly small compared to the blue one, roughly 20,000 vs 230,000+. Nothing shows that the red ones are still dropped. "I have a feeling their priorities lie elsewhere currently." That's my concern. CS:GO is (or at least should be) one of their big games, it needs constant attention from their part. Or at the very least attention when it's needed, aka at the important events.

reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/22.. Was 1 month ago on reddit. It drops but is a very rare drop. "That's my concern. CS:GO is (or at least should be) one of their big games, it needs constant attention from their part. Or at the very least attention when it's needed, aka at the important events." I only mention their priorities lay elsewhere with the very intense and packed schedule DotA2 has just brought in. Since the compendium was released, Valve have probably pocketed in the region of $15mill from the community (rough estimate), so they know they need to work hard on the timescales the community expect. It doesn't help there are only 8 - 10 guys who actively work on CSGO.

That's weird. They'll probably make it drop as long as there are people to open them. "I only mention their priorities lay elsewhere with the very intense and packed schedule DotA2 has just brought in. If they don't commit to their responsibilities, the esports scene, and eventually the game, will suffer from it.

As Gumpstar mentioned, Dreamhack will be a huge event even that Valve not support it. It will be nice to see another ESL/EMS event with a big amount of money. Another idea could be that Valve is building on another format for their events, like 2-3 events starting after summer, with a big event next summer. I really really hope that Valve wants to extent their support to the competetive scene, because it means so much right now to keep a some sort of a professional scene.

First of all, they alredady made millions with the skins, operations, stickers, tags etc... The game is more than profitable. Valve can't be the one constantly pushing the game forward. The community can't depend on it, or else tournaments won't feel the need to step it up because Valve will always back them with the money. And now DreamHack doesn't even get a contribution from Valve for their second major event? DHS has always been a smaller tournament.

"Valve can't be the one constantly pushing the game forward. The community can't depend on it, or else tournaments won't feel the need to step it up because Valve will always back them with the money." Constantly? Surely not. That's why they're called majors, because there are also minor events. But two a year is simply not enough, and no organization other than Valve can raise the money needed for a major. So yes, I think it's their responsibility to make sure their main FPS game has a great scene, and of course the organizations have to step it up accordingly. But two majors a year is not enough. "DHS has always been a smaller tournament." I don't see anything wrong with changing that.

The fact that ESL didn't host any big tournament until Valve came up with the money means they're not ready to invest in CS:GO that much. They don't want to take risks, because they feel like they can't afford it. MLG probably feels the same. Valve has to show them that they're hear to back them up, or they'll just continue raising these tiny prize purse until CS:GO is no more. Don't forget that this money is not only Valve's. The community paid in order to raise these prize purse. We deserve these majors because we paid for it. And Valve has a responsibility, whether they like it or not, whether they fulfill it or not. That's my opinion anyway.

"The fact that ESL didn't host any big tournament until Valve came up with the money means they're not ready to invest in CS:GO that much." ESL hosted three $39k tournaments in 2013 did they not? They did the same for DotA2 in 2013 as well. MLG is completely different, over in America the top FPS is CoD and not CSGO. Therefore they have no reason to include CSGO into their circuit at the moment.

"ESL hosted three $39k tournaments in 2013 did they not?" Sure, and that's tiny compared to what Valve raised, don't you agree? The fact that they didn't raise more money for Dota2 only confirms the fact that ESL won't host majors unless they know they have Valve with them. "Therefore they have no reason to include CSGO into their circuit at the moment." Which is my point. They need a reason if we expect them to take over Valve some day, and no one else but Valve can convince them, and I don't mean with words.

Volvo sucks? Volvo does not give a damn about counter-strike. And that's right. Dota 2 is a new flagship game that dominate Europe, after 1.6 death, nobody gives a damn about counter-strike discipline. And don't say "No, you're wrong, we are still here". Nowadays "We" are just ashes of 1.6 community. Look at these livestream numbers, it's pathetic and Valve are not stupid to invest money into the game that not worth it.

If we want CSGO to be as big as something like Dota or LoL, we need to have more than 1-2 250K tournaments in a year. NA most likely won't travel for $10K. It will be EU. We need like 3-4 $250K tournaments a year imo. Of course this is Harder said then done but I still think thats what is needed

I agree with what somebody said up a few comments. With the amount of money Valve is making, perhaps they could throw in some money to help out the minors, and not just fund the majors. For instance, if a tourney says they'll put in 30K for their CSGO tournament, Valve could add another 30K or 20K and make it a 60K or 50K tournament. I think this would also help the game grow.
