SK release CS:GO team

SK Gaming have announced that they have parted ways with their CS:GO division and that the organisation will not be looking to pick up a new team.

The decision comes as a huge surprise as SK had given a good account of themselves at DreamHack Summer, where they beat fnatic and London Conspirancy en route to the last-eight stage, where they were defeated by HellRaisers.

Shortly after the event, SK were left with a four-man roster as Faruk "pita" Pita decided to retire from gaming to take on a full-time job at a Swedish bank.

SK came in 5th-8th at DH Summer

Since then, the team had been trialling several players, most recently Marcus "Delpan" Larsson, with whom they secured a place in the ESL One European finals via the North qualifier.

Everything seemed to be on track for the team, but SK announced today that they decided against renewing the players' contract.

SK Gaming is currently not looking to pick up another team or any individual players and are therefore opting out of competitive Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for the time being.

We at SK Gaming wish the best of luck to the entire team - these are some great guys and personalities with a bright future ahead of them. Big shout-outs also to our fans, who supported us both offline and online during this endeavour. We have been and currently are looking into other opportunities and will hopefully have some promising announcements coming up soon.

It's the worst possible moment to release a team, the line-up qualified for the ESL Cologne European finals, and they showed encouraging results a few weeks ago... SK already did that kind of thing with a previous line-up in CS:GO, they only look at short term, they'll never achieve anything with that kind of mentality. I'm glad they choose not to continue CS:GO, no team needs an organization like that.

Because CS:GO is the best FPS that I know of at the moment. It's still complete shit which is really sad. I'm waiting for Unreal Tournament 4 and beg to the nonexistent gods that it'll be good.

To think they are shit you're either not thinking logically or you're just plain dumb and don't realize esports left FPS behind about 3 years ago. They are pretty restricted and considering of how much of a loss they would run at not having the #1 side in CS:GO they are making nothing.

LoL wouldn't exist without Riot -_- Though there is no lie that Riot has thrown much money into the e-sport part of the game, compared to Valve, though Valve seems to be helping a few tournaments now a days. The issue is, CS:GO teams expect just as much as League of Legends teams, making CS:GO a hard scene to move into due to how expensive it is, and how much you get back from it.

They should have realized their lineup wasn't going to be top 1 instantly, as teams require time. It seems to me that SK either wants an all in top 1 or nothing at all to consider CS:GO worth their time. The truth may be far from what I am claiming, but that's how it looks to me.

SK always did this after the HeatoN era. Once a new lineup didn't win gold, they ditched their team. Happened so many times. SK just aren't a good organization anymore, and I don't think they have / know what it takes to back a team in GO.

Right move from SK-Gaming. There is no point to hold a CS:GO team. In CS:GO prize pools are low and it means that there is no profit for the SK-Gaming. Some guys can point out $250k tournament, but who believe in eksem and his team that they can win this tournament? Max top5 and there is no money. < Pointless. :-/ Organization better use this budget for another games; dota2, sc2, lol. And dont blame organization, blame the game. :)

SK as always tried to enforce players on eksem/skytten the original creators of the lineup and then things started to fall off. They might have asked for tWist or someone from ex-SK but SK management had bad experiences with them and just decided to give up. As i said before, unless sk is going to become more flexible with csgo teams they will never succeed thats what makes NiP/fnatic/mouz better organizations.
