G3 announce tournament format

Following an announcement regarding the map pool for Gfinity 3, the organizers have now published the tournament format that will be used at the event in London.

After deciding to replace de_train with de_cache in the map pool, the organizers are now ready to announce the format for the twelve team $45,000 tournament, to be held on August 2-3.

Starting off two groups of six teams using round robin will take place, thus guaranteeing every participant at least five matches in the group stage alone, before potential playoffs.

Xyp9x's dignitas are set to return to tournament play in London

Playoffs will be played out using a standard single elimination best-of-three format for the top four teams in each group, with group stage finishes used for seedings in playoffs.

You can find a preliminary team list for G3 in our previous news post. HLTV.org will travel to London to provide you with full coverage of the event taking place two weeks before ESL One.

he was probably asking if the method used will be: ban-ban,pick-pick,ban-ban (like lurppis suggested) or the old method (ban-ban,ban-ban, pick-pick)

Have any of the teams confirmed yet? Its a $45,000 tournament but theres no official event page (website) for the event, whats with that? its £44/55eur to attend as a spectator but information about the event seems limited to what news articles they send to hltv.

From my experiences with them with the CoD scene, they're very secretive with their workings, but the events have high production quality.

That's not a particularly impressive merit, they should be promoting much more than they are.

Actually, it is a rather impressive merit. If you saw what they've done to the EU CoD scene with an open mind, you'd see they've done a lot. And if you'd cared to research, you'd have seen what they've done in other games too. How do you propose that they promote G3?

I think I remember reading that this will serve as the UK ESWC qualifier. Will that be the highest placed UK team?

Oh, so the winner of G3 will get and invite to ESWC, regardless of their nationality? Assuming they aren't already invited..
