ESEC format unveiled
The organisers of the European Championship (ESEC) have unveiled all the details about the format for the 2014 edition.
A total of 44 European nations will be taking part in the second edition of the tournament, which will officially kick off in a week's time with the qualifying stage.
The 16 lowest ranking nations will have to play in the first qualifying round, with the eight winners moving on to the second qualifying round, where they will be joined by 16 other sides (12 seeded and four unseeded).

The winners of this second qualifying round will be rewarded with a place in the main competition, where they will join the 12 highest-ranked teams in the ranking. Below are the nations that have secured direct entry into ESEC 2014's group stage:

The draw for the first qualifying round will take place on Tuesday, with the matches due to be scheduled for the period that goes from August 12-19. Here is the preliminary schedule for the tournament:

All qualification matches will be played in a best-of-three mode, while the group stage will be played in a best-of-one format. Four teams will advance from each group into single-elimination best-of-three playoffs, starting with the Round of 16.
