GeT_RiGhT: "Finally play like a team"
ESL One Cologne 2014 champion, Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund, talked to HLTV.org right after their close 2-1 win over fnatic.
Since we haven't caught anyone from the team during the playoffs, Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund went over various topics including all of NiP's playoff matches, the veto system and which teams surprised him and his team.
GeT_RiGhT, the champion of ESL One Cologne 2014, third time is the charm, how do you feel?
Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund: "Yeah it is, I'm just speechless at the moment and I'm just happy to be playing with this team, it's just amazing."
Let's take it from the top, because we haven't caught you for an interview before, at least not in the playoffs, let's start with the quarter-finals.
Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund: "We were playing against the Americans, Cloud9, it was 2-1 in the score in the end and it was a tough game in general. I think it could've gone either way, especially with cobble being so random at least for everyone right now, but we managed to clinch it in the end with a 16-14 and just go onto the semi-finals. Winning there was just an amazing feeling and it's been amazing every time we won, it was just a good start there already over the Americans, we always had big problems against them, I think they just proved everyone that they're here to stay, nobody should underestimate them anymore."
The semifinal was against LDLC, did you expect to play them or did you expect to rather meet Virtus.pro?
Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund: "Well, I was actually not surprised they won over Virtus.pro, mostly because they've been playing against us so much in the recent two weeks, we were pretty much overpracticed before this tournament, we played too much against them and same for them with us. I knew they can do damage and they have been a strong team for a long time. They just went out in the quarter-finals and now they finally did it and they did over a really good team. It was a cool feeling to see and I think it was nice of them, a heavy stone dropped from their hearts, because they were struggling, coming out in quarter-finals every time. A little bit surprised, but not too much.
Playing against them is, as I was saying before, we played too much against them, we knew it was gonna be a weird game and again, cobble came into the picture and we managed to win 16-14 once again! And it was 2-1 maps again in the scoreline. It was a crazy game there, and it was an even harder game than Cloud9 - not even playing it, more like emotionally, we were like "Damn, this tournament is so hard, we have been struggling so hard and now we're in the final again, nice, we just wanna prove everyone that we can actually win a major. We're just one step closer to it."
In the final you met fnatic, once again, what are your thoughts on the match?
Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund: "I knew it's gonna be hard, we played against each other almost every tournament, so it's not a shocker to see that we were facing off each other especially after the roster change, which was an upgrade at least on paper. And you can look right now, they're a really strong team, everybody fears them, even us, and it was so close to losing to them in the finals, which would be very heartbreaking again."
Were you surprised at all that they picked cobblestone?
Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund: "Actually I was, we thought they would pick inferno directly, because we know they're very strong, we practiced against them online and we got smashed really hard on inferno. We couldn't do anything on that map. It was a surprise that they picked cobble, but I think they did it mostly because we were really shaky on that map, in the quarters and semi-finals, so I think it was just a safe map pick. And I think it was a good choice for them to pick it, because look at the score, 16-14, it's not gonna happen again, but somehow we managed to win that game again, this time much harder as CT, so it was awesome for us."

GeT_RiGhT talked to HLTV.org after breaking the major final curse
That's what I wanted to talk about as well, at your Terrorists side you were down 4-11, what went wrong?
Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund: "Nothing, actually, we wanted to start T, that's why we picked it and we knew that if we get a couple of rounds, we can get rolling as CT. We've done it on practice and I was just surprised we played kinda badly in the quarters and semis on cobble on CT. But we proved now at least for ourselves that we're really good as CT. That was really nice of us to do that in the finals."
Your pick was de_cache, which was fairly one-sided, what can you tell us about that?
Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund: "I think we screwed up a little bit, because we won the pistol round, lost the eco, won the eco then, lost the eco again. I think we were just thinking about winning already, and we should never have done that. At least winning one map, it's not even over, it can be taken by either side, and fnatic proved is exactly that, they just smashed us directly on cache. We've been having problems on cache, but we thought it was a really good pick from us, but it actually wasn't."
Do you have anything to say about de_inferno, which was the closest of the maps?
Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund: "Finally, we can win inferno! Just like that, winning inferno was really nice, it was one of our strongest maps before and finally we can win it, especially on a LAN tournament, it was just awesome, winning it again."
I was asking this question a lot of teams, everybody was basically on the same page, and it goes like this - What can you tell us about the new maps and secondly about the veto system?
Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund: "I have been actually saying that cobblestone, overpass are good maps, and cache has always been a good map. I have actually nothing bad to say about it, more than like they have to tweak something about the maps, I'm not sure how, but hopefully they can do it so that it's more playable for everyone else. How the veto system works, well you have to play all maps I guess, in a way, but at least you can ban one map, so that was good. But it was kinda weird to see the random system in the vetos, but still I think it was good to see more maps, before it was only inferno, inferno and inferno. It was good to see and I think it was okay, at least this tournament, but for the next one, they should think about it."
Last question, which teams surprised you in the tournament, both positively and negatively?
Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund: "I think just us. Like I was saying in my pre-interview for this tournament, I only focus on the team and on myself, and I'm just happy that we can finally play like a team and not rely on just one player playing really good, like FeTiSh was saying, CS is a team game, it's not just a star player carrying the game. We finally can do that now."
Any last words, shoutouts?
Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund: "Thanks for everyone cheering, the interview, the sponsors, Faruk Pita for jumping in so close to the tournament to be our coach, he did an amazing job, my girlfriend Anna and my family, my friends, and especially fans, it was a hell of a ride and hopefully the next one is gonna be even bigger."
