fnatic win ESWC 2014

fnatic came out on top of ESWC 2014 after a straight 2-0 win against LDLC (16-10 de_inferno, 16-11 de_cache) for $20,000, while LDLC have to settle for second place and $15,000.

fnatic started off strong on map one, de_inferno, which was LDLC's pick, getting a quick 4-0 lead as the Frenchmen tried to forcebuy twice in a row after a lost pistol.

LDLC were getting back on track slowly but surely, although halfway through their Counter-Terrorist side, Olof "⁠olofmeister⁠" Kajbjer put them on the back foot as only his scout shredded the defence.

Also thanks to that, fnatic were able to get an 8-7 lead on the less favoured side despite Vincent "⁠Happy⁠" Schopenhauer's stellar performance. The teams exchanged a few rounds at the beginning, but it was fnatic who stormed through map one soon after at 16-10, 1-0.

fnatic take a second victory in a row

After switching over to fnatic's choice, de_cache, the Swedes' performance was as good as ever even though LDLC won the initial pistol, as well as both anti-ecos afterwards.

LDLC were only able to get one more round out of the remaining twelve, as Freddy "⁠KRIMZ⁠" Johansson showed up in the same form as throughout the whole tournament, leaving little room for LDLC to breathe.

When the last week's FACEIT champions got the second pistol and LDLC couldn't come up with enough in the anti-ecos, it seemed like the match would be over soon.

The Frenchmen did not want to give up, as they got five rounds in a row before fnatic found a recipe against the defence, and took match point at 15-9. Only two rounds were holding them back from the trophy and the $20,000 cheque, taking a second victory in a row after FACEIT League Season 2 Finals.

Well, if nothing changes, we already know who will be the next champion for the next major.

I'll say something about the less favoured teams. IMO: Cipangu GO did quite well, (getting 9 rounds on Nuke, one of diggy's best maps) as well as 3DMAX. Virtual Impact seemed to be the worse (at least from their 16-0 results) KabuM seemed to be the hyped up underdogs but they did pretty well too (9-16 against Titan) Platinum only reminded me of their upset 10-16 win over NiP on cobblestone. pow was interesting to watch on inferno. Final thoughts on top tier teams: NiP tried something different, but couldn't get out of their slump(played really well compared to their previous weeks though) diggy had a rather solid showing, only losing to VP in the quarters considering their poor run at FACEIT LAN. Na Vi looked solid with Edward,GuardiaN as usual and starix showing up.(upsetting Fnatic in the groups) IBP,HR actually played pretty decent compared to their recent showings. Fnatic seem to be the clear top 1 atm. ( 2 consecutive tournys won) ^Just my 2 cents worth.

C9 played pretty okay, just disliked the fact that they "gambled" by trying to knife which sort of resulted in them being eliminated due to round difference. Although VP played poorly, they managed to convince me with their 3rd place match against Na Vi, who where on the other hand playing worse compared to the group stages (yes I bet Na Vi, R.I.P 0.18 value ish skins)

I was bored too. but i felt, that a lot of excitement was taken away by the casters. :/ I never really heard excitement in their voice. A good caster can make a normal match really entertaining, because they can press their own amusement onto the watchers. I still remember old games with very one-sided statistics being fun to watch, because of J.Miller for example. These guys try hard, but still not good enough. But this is only my opinion :)
