DreamHack Winter viewer's guide

With DreamHack Winter set to kick off on Thursday afternoon, we have put together a comprehensive viewer's guide to get you ready for the event.

DreamHack Winter marks the anniversary of the first CS:GO major, and since then we've had fnatic, Virtus.pro and NiP become world champions at the biggest tournaments.

Another $250,000 prize will be up for grabs this week in Jönköping, where sixteen of the world's best teams will be competing for the massive prize purse, distributed as follows:

1. $100,000
2. $50,000
3-4. $22,000
5-8. $10,000
9-16. $2,000

The tournament will begin with a best-of-one group stage using a GSL format, with half of the sixteen teams progressing to the playoffs, set to begin on Friday morning.

In the group stage the map selection system features both teams removing two maps from the pool, with the map then decided randomly from the three remaining maps:

de_cache
de_cobblestone
de_dust2
de_inferno
de_mirage
de_nuke
de_overpass

From there on out the entire tournament will be played out using a best-of-three single elimination bracket, with the semi-finals and grand final scheduled for Saturday.

In the playoffs each team will only get a chance to eliminate one map from the pool. Then each team picks their map, and once again, the third map will be drawn randomly.

I'm a bit confused hltv.org and csgolounge states that e.g bravado is playing fnatic, while the ingame pick'em challenge is stating that HR is playing against bravado. Pretty much all of the matches on the pick em challenge are the opposite as stated on this page, am I misunderstanding something here? i.imgur.com/wlHPPvH.png edit or this the pick em challenge just about guessing the two teams that advance?

Dude, you have to pick the 2 best teams of each group. They will go to the quarter finals. You don't have to predict match winners...

that pick'em page does not show who is playing who , its showing the 4 teams in random order, u need to pick 2 out of 4,2 who will advance, thats it.

Instead of 5 matches in groups there should be 6 matches so all teams can play each other. Currently it's 20 group stage matches but with other option it would be 24 matches. Currently in worse way you will play only 2 matches, but with other option all team would play always 3 matches, would be more fair. Time solutions: 1. From 17:00 to 22:30 - 1 matches from all group in one time. 2. They would need to change start time from 12:00 to 10:00 so it would end up in 24:00. I think it would be much better for teams and for viewers.

Why wouldn't they use all 4 days for this event? They could do groupstages thursday and friday, then quarters saturday, and semis + grand on sunday. Instead some players will only sleep like 6 hours before the quarters start but hey at least they can finish 1 day before schedule. wth

Cobblestone still? Lmao. Valve, get your shit together and just take that out the map pool. Also this "random third map" thing is ridiculous. It's not a thing. It needs to stop. Why would you want to see two great teams potentially having to duke it out on de_fucking_cobblestone which neither of them will even want to play, as the general consensus in the professional community is that it is not a viable competitive map. The majority of the viewers most certainly don't want to spectate that map, so who is this pleasing? Valves need for self-assurance that they have made a good map? Because you really haven't.
