CS:GO to become DH's main game

All DreamHack events in 2015 will feature CS:GO as a main game, HLTV.org has learned.

So far, CS:GO has had limited exposure in DreamHack's world circuit, with the game having been left of out of a number of events that take place in several countries throughout the year.

However, a source inside DreamHack has told HLTV.org that CS:GO will replace Starcraft 2 as the main game for the 2015 event circuit, which means full production and main stage privileges in all tournaments.

CS:GO will play a much bigger role in DH's circuit

Right now, there are six DreamHack events listed for 2015, starting with the Romanian stop in Bucharest, from April 24-26, but more are expected to be announced in the coming months.

Below you can find the list with all the DreamHack events that have so far been announced for 2015:

DreamHack Masters Bucharest 2015 – 24-26 April 2015
DreamHack France 2015 – 8-10 May 2015
DreamHack Summer 2015 – 13-16 June 2015
DreamHack Valencia 2015 – 16-19 July 2015
DreamHack Cluj Napoca 2015 – 23-25 October 2015
DreamHack Winter 2015 – 26-29 November 2015
  • Romania DreamHack Masters Bucharest 2015 – 24-26 April 2015
  • France DreamHack France 2015 – 8-10 May 2015
  • Sweden DreamHack Summer 2015 – 13-16 June 2015
  • Spain DreamHack Valencia 2015 – 16-19 July 2015
  • Romania DreamHack Cluj Napoca 2015 – 23-25 October 2015

Main stage always means great games. Even when they make a lot of mistakes, the tension is epic. It's very good!

TI4 was only shit because of the patch they played on. It allowed for 5 man deathballs at level 6, which any team could do and be good. Prime example, Team Newbie that won TI4, became fucking terrible as soon as they patch changed.

It's like saying TI3 should've been 1sided because of the ratdota Alliance but Na`Vi figured them out in the end. Edit: the team didn't get shit itself, they aren't motivated after winning so much + they're still really good, it's just that chinese are all really strong.

Which means Valve and tournaments will be forced to use drastic anti-cheat measures. DHW was good in that sense, but no enough, they need to forbid players to bring their own gear. Then they have two solutions, either provide very high quality gear, the same for everyone, or buy every item on demand from the players.

The PC's had no permissions at all... So nothing can happen even if there is a cheat loaded storage drive in the peripherals.

The PC needs to access the firmware of the peripheral, so the user needs at least those permissions, once it's done, a skilled dev can surely forge a cheat that can execute itself from there. That's a long shot, sure, but it would be best if players wouldn't be allowed to bring their own USB-plugged gear. It's a useless risk. Headsets with jack plugs are fine.

Hell no it doesn't need the firmware permissions, because most keyboards and mice will just run fine and I think the players can use their keyboards without extra macros. And idk what a skilled dev is for you, but how is he supposed to do anything at all when they just download the firmware from the official website of the peripheral maker?

Nothing is completely secured in IT, absolutely nothing. Allowing foreign peripherals on a system is basically leaving the key under the doormat: It's not very safe, and it can be avoided easily (for big events, that is).

The reason i still play CS after all these years is because there's always new things, or different things to experience. Ofc the feeling of making a clutch for your team is a strong factor as well :D But CS is not repetitive. As with SC2 I do like the game, I'm bad at it but it's fun to watch. Sad that they remove it. But it's a dying game since it's too hard to learn.

All things are repetitive to a degree, and while I love both CS and SC, I understand why games like LoL and CS have grown so much. It comes down to the 95 percent of the people who post on this site, aka the Casuals. Starcraft its extremely hard to have a casual base because the game is so demanding especially with amount of time that requires to even be decent for your region. People forget CS was a dying game too if it was not for skins then the game we all love might of been a distant memory.

Indeed. I've played a few games in SC, and I still play agaisnt bots because it's not as fun (in the beginning). It's, as you said, not a casual game. Either you play it full time or not at all. CS have always had Gungames, zombiemod etc to attract younger players and with the introduction of MM people play more 5v5. The level of skill lowers but the amount of players and money in the game increases. The skins are a big part of the popularity, but I think MM is the major part why GO have gotten so big.

And I'm so happy for CS because I have been playing diff versions for more then 10 years. I just hope that legacy of the void can bring back what sc2 is missing and what broodwar had as far as dynamic battles. Starcraft is a great spectator esport, Where it will never get 100k+ viewership consistently and I understand that but I just hope it dont die out completely because CS and SC is the two games I really enjoy watching and have always enjoyed watching I'd hate to see either of them die out. The good news is that it doesnt look like CS will ever die with how things have progressed so rapidly over the last year and a half.

haha, yeah. When I started to play CSGO it was like 15-20 K in the world. Now there's a bit more ;) Agreed, SC and CS are the best games to watch. But with the removal of maps like Train and the overall CT-sided games makes it pretty boring. There's also very few teams who get the chance to become pro, we've hade like the same 50 players now i 2 years.

yes, with a 'world wide' pro scene more teams need represented, with bigger tournaments. ANYTHING that's not single DQ for a qualifier, anything less then a loser's bracket, or best of three, or hell, both, is a joke. It leads to these teams that cant handle major's getting there and just falling flat in groups(Lets face it, smaller known teams kind of have a edge since EVERYONE doesn't know their tactics, so as long as they don't suck they can put up a good fight). While teams that fall flat in the qualifies(Which are online with fake lag ffs) could possibly take down the big guys. What I'm saying is, they should probably have a international gig, with regional qualifies that are LANS, as a 'murican i'd use four region qualifies in the u.s. Then maybe have the top 4-5 from each of those in a national qualifies, with the top 4-5 teams of the nation move on to the international event. I know I'm using a larger country, maybe some don't need as many qualifying events, but with the spot light growing on the game it's very sad to see it not growing on the players putting the hard work into becoming pro.

Yeah, agreed. It's so hard to go pro because you don't really know what to do. Forest once said that "If you want to go pro you need a lot of luck and meed the right people". With more LAN's in every country it'll be easier to acknowledge new good players/teams, even though you wont win more then a few 100 bucks on these teams. Ofc the next majors and bigger LAN's should have LAN-qualification. It's just logical to put the pro's on LAN since Online is so random.

I only played source because of friends that played it, otherwise it was a joke and is why it was the death of the comp scene. No one took it seriously, which is why LDLC was pretty much made fun of intill they showed they could hold their own. It's also why 1.6 was still the main tournament game intill GO. Source had HUGE hit boxes, i mean, seriously, it was way too easy. But still, yea, skins attract most of the kids, along with 'betting' so they can feel cool. But a lot of the grassroot community came to GO, which was a relief since they all hated source, which was mostly a louzy port to a new engine to promote it. Although killing someone with a flashbang was pretty cool.

people are always complaining without knowing the full story. in the last patch valve made the biggest anti-cheat update theyve done in a long time, making cheats like the one KQLY was using, impossible to use. you can no longer make cheats that force bullets onto anyone, which was possible before and resulted in crazy rage hacking that youve probably seen. if you ever get killed by a cheater from now on, all he can have used is wh or simple aimbot/triggerbot. this is a huge step imo.

So you haven't seen the new bunnyjumping with the back turned, freezing mid air to headshot, spinhacking, crazy aimbot, overwatch undetectable hack that is out atm? I met 2 guys the other night.. Oh cheat is back my friend. it came back stronger -_-

When there's a game, there is cheaters. When there is money involved, they get more serious. It happens in all sports, and will be dealt with accordingly as it's uncovered, and that's all you can hope. Cheating is NEVER truly defeated.

What about an International for CS:GO? 10 million $ prize pool sounds sweet. :P

? you do realise the 10mill$ prizepool was actually the money of the community rather than VALVE putting money in directly ( well they did start with like 2,7mill i think ) There is no way in any scenario the current way cs:go league support is there will be a compendium for a csgo international. There are no ingame tickets for any leagues whatsoever like in dota2

I wouldn't want an international. Maybe have the price increased and 4 majors/year. Like 500 K maybe 4 times a year. More to watch and more opportunities for new teams etc.

still think there should be the ultimate major esque tournament like TI. Something that means everything every year. Ok lets say you win a major in Novemember, you're relevant until the next major in a couple of months. If you win the international, you are relevant for the entire year.

If you work really hard, practice and train, winning a TI would mean you are the champion of the year. Doing the same and winning Dreamhack winter means you're the champion of 3/4 months with a considerably smaller prizepool. I'd say the TI has a much bigger incentive on teams to put in more time. puu.sh/dvB7a/84d4b3167e.png Even a top8 finish guarantees a lot more than the winner of DHW. The fact dota2 still has other majors just says one thing. a TI and other majors can coexist.

Indeed. As long as they coexist it's fine. But if I had to chose between them I'd chose smaller events.

The tickets weren't there in the beginning for dota 2 too. Really valve is just lazy and refuses to add it for CSGO (or any other important feature found in dota 2)

+1 my thought exactly, that would help csgo tournaments a shit ton more than stickers Not only that, add ingame tickets for EVERY tournament and make match drops like in dota2. There. you will have the incentive to buy tickets

What are you trying to say? Pretty unclear/bad English. Ingame tickets for any leagues? What? Is that supposed to be Engelando? If you're trying to say there is no way CS community could raise 9$ mill, you're wrong. If Valve just gave us a fucking international with some compendium (or especially if they gave skins) to crowdfund the price pool, it would be the biggest price pool in esports history. Fucking Dota kids are mostly poor people from Eastern Europe/Asia without money to spend. Meanwhile, CS community is full of Western people with money to spend and a love for skins that is beyond what we've seen with any other game before. I know plenty of people from both communities.

Volvo could host a major any other week with all the market transactions and key sales. so a 10Mio pricepool shouldn't be a problem at all.

the difference is volvo don't want to be an unsustainable company like RIOT/Blizzard and keep pumping their own money too keep the game alive. They'd rather let the money of the community to save it, which isn't market transactions. Key sales yes, that's what funds dreamhack anyway.

international is bad for csgo. rather have 4 majors...maybe 5 or 6 max. this is better for the scene. potentially spreading the prize pool and income and exposure.

Hopefully sometime soon csgo takes the spotlight back. So sick of shitty mobas. Need the cs / quake3 days back. Also Riot is more disgusting than CGS was and CGS made me want to throw up for days. No EC servers, shitty f2p system, not sharing their game with long standing esports events ( when they do its like joke exhibitions), very little competitive integrity, advertising a league that's inferior skill wise and having 2 international tournaments a year to help hide it. Not to mention preventing Koreans from coming to the NA as full teams etc. Etc. The most disgusting "hidden marketing" I've seen in 16 years of being around competitive gaming. Cannot wait for this game to die.

they almost lost after the incident happened in overpass between LDLC vs Fnatic. it's better to give it to ESEA.

hah, according to..? They obviously didn't. It's not their fault Valve can't make maps properly, and the rest of the event pretty much went perfectly fine.

perfect? Venue was smaller, Crowd sucked & EIZO monitors sucked, dude take a look at Katowice once then just compare it to DH, Katowice was the best. And about the incident, DH couldn't make decision for 7hours lol so that says all.
