Pre-KODE5 with Neo
8-5-2008 12:33
HLTV.org got hold of the Best Player of 2007. The Polish superstar Filip "Neo" Kubski, found time to sit down with HLTV.org and talk about the past, the future and KODE5. MYM is currently bootcamping in Copenhagen, prior to KODE5.
HLTV.org will be your home during the entire event, providing you with HLTV, livebot, demos, galleries, results and a lot more. Don't miss out on this first major event of the year.
MYM will be in action at KODE5 this Saturday, playing in group c with tp.uSports, mTw, Gravitas and ExsequoR.
It's now more than 4 months since you switched from PGS to MYM. Tell us about the switch, what changes did it make for the team to switch to MYM? MYM has been known for a long time, to be less successful with Counter-Strike teams. Do you intend to change that?
I don't think it made any changes to our team inside. We just chose better conditions for ourselves, which MYM gives us, and that's it. We are very happy about that move and of course we will try changing MYM's reputation in CS. Hopefully we will make it, for us and them haha.
It seems like you got a fresh start after the switch to MYM. Do you feel the same way?
Yeah, the change itself gave us a boost of motivation, and want to prove not only to fans, but also to ourselves that we are able to stay on the top. We had some bad results in the second part of 2007, so now we will have to do our best to get back.
End of 2007 wasn't really a good time for your team result-wise. Even 2008 started off with some disappointing results in Extreme Masters II, resulting in no LAN finals this year. Did the Polish internet wash away your changes or what happened?
Polish internet connection is known to be pretty bad, and unfortunately that is true. On the other hand generally we made some mistakes during EM II online matches, and mostly because of that we didn't qualify. We should be able to pass the qualifier even with such conditions as the connection from here, and we were not able to - so generally it is just our fault.
You met fnatic quite a few times in 2007, you even faced them in the final at SEC. Will fnatic be tipped off the throne, being the best ranked team in the world this year? Will MYM re-take it or who will be the best ranked team in 2008?
The competition is so tough right now that it is too hard to pick just one team which is able to win. There is at least few teams which can make it to the final, so we will just have to wait untill the event to see who is the best right now. But as usual I can see SK, or mibr in the finals. :P
MYM have before been struggling with under-dogs. What's in your eyes, the advantage being the under-dogs and what's the disadvantage playing against under-dogs?
Have we been struggling with under-dogs? I can't remember, hehe. Well generally maybe it's the pressure on the team. Under-dogs might play without such stress, they have less to loose, and it's the other team at whom everyone's looking.. No, I don't know.
You and your team are currently bootcamping in Copenhagen. What's the main goal with the bootcamp? Do MYM take care of you day-in-day-out or do you have time on your own in the city of Copenhagen?
Generally we try focusing on tactics during our bootcamps, so this time; it is the same. We just decide when do we practice, and besides that we have time for ourselves, so generally we just do whatever we want. We will try not to make the same mistake like before the WCG 2007, when we made lots of new tactics and didn't have enough time to play them, so we didn't even know they are going to work.
The Polish ESWC qualifier will take place same weekend as KODE5 Global Finals. It's no secret you cannot be both places at the same time. KODE5 is without doubt a tournament with high prestige to win, but can you just set the ESWC qualifier aside for it? Isn't it too risky to aim for qualification spot at ESWC Masters?
Of course it is risky because there is going to be a lot of great teams. Unfortunately that is our only chance to go to ESWC, we don't want to miss KODE5 finals, which are going to be our first KODE5 finals, so we just really want to be there, especially with such tough competition.
HLTV.org will be your home during the entire event, providing you with HLTV, livebot, demos, galleries, results and a lot more. Don't miss out on this first major event of the year.
