Beta de_mirage2 version released

Shawn "FMPONE" Snelling and Michael "BubkeZ" Hüll have released a greybox version of the highly-anticipated de_mirage2 map.

Snelling, who has several famous maps to his name, including de_cache and de_season, and Hüll, who is known for his de_cpl_strike map for 1.6, are working on bringing an old "mirage 2" map project to CS:GO with hopes that it will be picked by tournament organisers in the future.

A greybox version of the map has now been released as Snelling and Hüll are interested in getting early feedback about the work to know what the community wants to see improved.

Besides de_mirage2, Snelling is also working on de_santorini, named after the famous Greek island. You can find a greybox version of this map here.

Here's some extra info for those interested. The original layout was created by BubkeZ, the original creator of de_cpl_strike (which would become de_mirage) for CS1.6. On February 2nd, Bubkez released this video walkthrough [ youtube.com/watch?v=tmG76q-7CaE] of mirage2, which is a project he began work on in 2011. On February 18th, FMPONE tweeted "Just ran around Mirage2 for the first time. It's honestly bittersweet for me to report that it's really good" to be followed up by a pair of tweets which ended with"...I guess you can expect "Mirage2" after Santorini :)". FMPONE's involvement with the map begins here, and while significant changes have been made since to the layout from the map's initial public showing on Anger's stream on February 22nd [twitch.tv/angercss/v/3818493?t=2h47m58s] it is ostensibly still based on Bubkez's layout. This is not a new version of Mirage. It is a sequel created by BubkeZ to his most successful map, similarly to how Dave Johnston created Dust2 as a sequel to Dust [johnsto.co.uk/design/making-dust2].

Texturing can be quite time consuming, so it's better to start working on that when you know that you have a working layout and don't have to start tweaking the structures of the map too much. Basically FMPONE wants to make sure that the map layout is good before he starts working on textures.

In the fact, I don't like it. I think I play this map a while ago on 1.6, and it's too easy and simple. I think CSGO needs some new, very strategic and hard maps. You know, players around the world knows every map, every glitch, every smoke, and it's becoming very boring on some matches. :)

For those saying this is a shit map at least state why you believe it to be a shit map. The whole point of him releasing this grey box is to get feedback on what to change or improve... That said after running around this map I believe it has a lot of potential. Good space and nice wide choke points unlike annoying inferno and nuke. As always its hard to give really good feedback without actually scrimming the map though my feeling is that the B site has a little too much going on. It feels like the Ts going there are forced to an all in. once you go down that drop down area you really cannot back away fast to A site. The run is a good 30 seconds? the site really lacks a good fast fake element unlike say inferno where you can fake B and 10 seconds later be up mid, or say Dust2 where you can smoke mid to B and go up short, or fake short and go mid to B. Aside from that there are a lot of areas for Ts to go and also CTs to go. I guess that can be good and bad but it feels like you wont get many "standard" holds going on due to how many areas can be or need to be covered, not sure how this would work out. CTs seem like they are going to be spread thin? like B is going to be a nightmare to retake so you need at least two in there. you need at least one holding the mid area (Ts can get into the CT spawn area from both upper and lower mid ways) and then you also have the long A side. Factor in that the map is very spacious and rotation times are going to be longer than usual it just comes off as the CTs are going to be heavily out gunned in most rounds.

Oh well... First I would want to thank authors (Michael "BubkeZ" Hüll and Shawn "FMPONE" Snelling), for actually trying to make a map, that also took many days (or months) to finish... Yet to be honest, since it's made from a CS 1.6 concept and many things could still be changed, so far that map seemed to me like another de_cbble... The map is very huge and the sites are so open and with so many places to watch that planting would probably be a suicide mission... And that is the reason, why I (SO FAR) dislike this map.

for the last time...they are not fixing mirage. nor are they making a new version of it. they are making a completely new map which happens to be named mirage2 (just as dust & dust2). seems like they won't even use mirage textures in the final version, maybe not even the name mirage2 but something different

Why do people not read the articles on this site... If you don't read it, don't reply. Just makes you look like an idiot. For example if you say it looks horrible that's because textures haven't been added. The map layout is more important to get right before you add textures. This map won't replace mirage as it says they're hoping competitions will ADD it to the map pool. There is no mention of mirage being replaced. In future please read the article before you reply.

What the actual fuck...has this website a new bot problem or did the average HLTV user really become THAT stupid?! It's so fucking unreal.... What the fuck happened to the CS community? It feels like I'm surrounded by down syndrom mongs. They think this map is meant to replace mirage, they blame Bubkez for the delay of tuscan (a map he has nothing to do with), they complain about the "textures" of a freaking greybox map, they call a map shit without even having tested it, they talk shit to the people who spent hundreds of hours without getting paid to create maps like mirage and tuscan while they're a enjoying these maps for free since many years...it's just disgusting. Thanks for your work Bubkez. I'm enjoying your cpl_strike/mirage since many many years and I'm gonna check out the layout of your new map and give you some feedback on it.

dont want to sound like conservative but when there are maps like mill/tuscan, fire, contra and Russka that don't get in the competitive pool, why would this map get in? Any of the above I mentioned looks more fun to play then mirage2. And just cringe at those comments. If I was a map designer looking for feedback, HLTV would be like the last place to look. The people who comment: looks like shit / no need for mirage2 - really, but really are just dumb as fuck. Sorry to be insulting, but really...cmon.

So much confusion in comments, this is a new map and just shares the same name as mirage, for now at least( twitter.com/FMPONE/status/57366410882809.. ). Also the map is in a greybox beta meaning all textures are placeholder and the design is being tested and changed based on feedback.
