Cloud9 sign Skadoodle, fREAKAZOiD

Cloud9 have announced that they have completed the signings of Ryan "fREAKAZOiD" Abadir and Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham, with Braxton "swag" Pierce joining the staff as analyst.

The North American team had been left with a three-man roster after dispensing with the services of Kory "⁠SEMPHIS⁠" Friesen and Shahzeb "⁠ShahZaM⁠" Khan following a run of poor form in both online and offline tournaments.

The final straw came at the ESEA Finals, in Dallas, where the team finished 7th-8th following 0-2 defeats against mousesports and Nihilum Gaming.


Skadoodle signs for Cloud9 

Ryan "⁠freakazoid⁠" Abadir, a former member of Dynamic and Frost Gaming, had been widely expected to join Cloud9, and not even the leak of information regarding a deal with the North American giants prevented the move from coming to fruition.

He has now been given the chance to play for the team on a permanent basis after acting as a stand-in for the squad in March 2014, following the departure of Braxton "⁠swag⁠" Pierce to iBUYPOWER.

Rounding out the roster will be Tyler "⁠Skadoodle⁠" Latham, who had been without a team since the disbandment of his iBP team following a match-fixing scandal. Since then, he had played for Torqued at Clutch Con and for eLevate at CEVO Season 6 finals, both as a substitute.

"There are few words that can accurately express the amount of revitalization going on within the Cloud9 camp," Cloud9 manager Tres "stunna" Saranthus said in a statement.

"In fREAKAZOiD and Skadoodle, we have two players with the most obvious goal to win first and foremost. I look at the hunger to succeed as an extremely essential key to success going forward with any player.

"These players aren’t out for themselves, but for the common good of bringing titles back to NA."

The news brings to an end weeks of speculation about Skadoodle and Spencer "⁠Hiko⁠" Martin creating a new team from scratch, with the latter taking to Twitter last night to vent his frustration.

Meanwhile, Cloud9 have announced that swag, who is currently banned from Valve-sponsored events and from most tournaments following his involvement in iBP's match-fixing scandal, has been hired as as analyst "to help ensure the roster’s performance and success" in future competitions.

"In Pierce, I see one of the world’s best competitors and with him a vast knowledge of competitive experience," Saranthus said.

"I cannot think of a former professional player more capable of helping to guide this team to where it needs to be."

Skill-wise, Ska is way better than Shahzam. With Semphis out, it's gonna be a nice change. With Semphis and Steel on the team, you;d notice Skadoodle barely communicating with the team at all. With Semphis and Steel out, I think Skadoodle will finally be able to live up to his potential, and not have the pressure of his teammates raging/screaming at him on TS.

The whole team basically didn't know what they were going to do at the start of each round. The only ones who USUALLY didn't say anything, from my experience, were shroud and Shah when it came to tactics.

I believe it was Hiko who said Shroud could've focused more on practice than his streaming. Personally, I don't think that the problem is in shroud. If anything, that guy is the only one who was performing for c9 in 2015. If Hiko was smart enough, he could just get over the fact that he and c9 had/have different opinions about how the team should work. He needed to see there is no way for him to find any team that could compete with EU teams besides c9 (we know what happened to ibp). He probably didn't want to become some kind of hypocrite so that's why he still didn't want to play with c9, but I am pretty sure he wished he was with ska in c9 right now.

In Counter Points, Hiko and Semphis said that Shroud were streaming all night, and never slept, and then showed up to practice sleep derived, and not in his most energetic and enthusiastic state. So D1verse, it comes from his own team mates. It is not about attending everything. You can also be a professional footballer, and attend training every day, but if you have been up all night, drunk, and show up wasted the next morning. Then how much worth is your training/effort really going to be the next day. You are not only showing up as a poor version of yourself, you are also letting the team down, and wasting everyones time. How can we see that? Look at cloud9's results. I doubt they are living up to their fat paycheck. Fat, satisfied, and done. That's why Hiko left.

Why the fuck should Hiko lie about Shroud not being 100% ready for pracc, and C9 wanting to raise their salary, even though they didn't perform? From what I've heard Hiko never said anything personally rude against any of the players, but he just told he disagreed with the mentality of certain players/staff in C9, and in order to stay he suggested some changes, which the other part didn't agree on, and they decided it was better to part ways. That seem pretty professional, and mature. Well, "presuming" I am an expert. I find it pretty interesting that both Hiko + Thorin agree on n0thing has not performed or being dedicated for a long time, especially again looking at his performance and c9 results. If Hiko and Thorin aren't experts in what is going on in counter strike and C9, I don't know who is. You want to hear it from Shrouds side? What the fuck do you expect to hear? No, I do not stream all day, and wake up wasted, but totally refreshed, and we get the maximal out of our practice, and we have results to back it up? What really, truly pisses me off? The scandal that resulted in the ban of the four iBuyPower players! We had a real team then that competed with the best in the world. Sometimes we won, sometimes lost, but we competed. Now that team is gone and the NA scene is still recovering.

I do not really agree, Cloud9 feels like they are not even trying anymore. Like they do not care if they win/lose agianst EU teams, I use to love seeing them doing the most crazy stuff on lan but that feels kinda long gone.

That's awesome, actually. Lots of old CS stars from NA played sports competitively before devoting themselves to the mouse. I saw an old video with interviews of the classic coL line-up, and I think almost every member mentioned playing either baseball or hockey in high school, and how their play-to-win spirit started there.

I spoke with him for some time on ESL Katowice 2k15 and he seemed really nice. He is intelligent and funny , but I know that doesnt meen that he is good. I just want to point out that he is likeable and i dont see him being kicked out from C9 , same as Sean, he is good in-game leader for their team. About swag - he might be not experienced enough. But i guess they are going to change freakzoid to him at the beggening of upcoming year meanwhile giving him a chance to stay on a "flow" and practice more in CS:GO + learning their strats so he would know them when he is going to come back to scene . As some people already said, probably have swag replace sgares in time, but have him transition to a coaching role. Hiko salty as hell and should not have taken so long to pull a team together; people don't want to be free agents forever. Still feel kinda bad, but I'm sure he can land on another roster. Better to just compete on a lesser team for a while than not play competitively at all.

The Hiko fuckover is real. The only explaination to this is that either some of these guys hate Hiko probably mby all of them. Or that Hiko has some serious problems in playing with teams. I know hiko hates the cloud9 org but I think even if you get payed that much as the c9 guys the should all leave and play with Hiko. The best player in NA is not on NA new super team.
