ptr released from CLG

CLG have released player Peter "ptr" Gurney, according to an official statement on the organisation's website.

The North American squad rose to prominence after they were picked up by their current organisation CLG as the ex-mouseSpaz lineup back in January.

With minimal offline exposure at the time, CLG attended MLG X Games Aspen 2015 and had a fairytale debut with a 16:14 upset of LDLC on de_dust2. In that game, it was primarily Peter "⁠ptr⁠" Gurney who shone as both the team's AWPer and a charismatic player for motivating the team.

CLG's quickly rising prospects were somewhat diminished in coming months however. Despite putting in a solid performance at the ESL One Katowice 2015 qualifiers, the next month saw the team return to Poland only to not be able to make it into the top 8, losing in groups alongside the fellow struggling North Americans of Cloud9.

ptr shared in his team's rise up until his release from CLG

Brief respite was granted when CLG managed to win the CEVO-P Season 6 finals at the MLG.tv arena, despite that being purely a regional affair. But a need for change started to become apparent when CLG finished a paltry 5th-6th place at the ESEA Season 18 finals, although the event itself was an overall disappointment for North America.

When news started swirling earlier this week that ptr had been benched by CLG, it was still purely conjecture. However, keen-eyed observers may have noticed that ptr began to quietly distance himself from his team, culminating in his removing all CLG logos and related descriptions from his Twitter last night.

The news has now officially broken in a CLG press release which confirms that ptr is no longer part of the team. In the release, the team's manager Jeff Fonseca had this to say:

"I know I speak for everyone on the team when I say it’s with a heavy heart that we are releasing our friend Peter “Ptr” Gurney from our roster. Peter has played an intricate roll for us since we signed with CLG in January of this year. He has been our designated AWPer and teammate since we began playing with him last year. Peter has had some amazing performances and has fought alongside us to achieve many hard-fought victories. We wish him the best in his future endeavors and look forward to seeing him in upcoming tournaments,” Fonseca said.

CLG are therefore currently left with this lineup:

Pujan "⁠FNS⁠" Mehta
James "⁠hazed⁠" Cobb
Tarik "⁠tarik⁠" Celik

With their declaration of seeking a fifth player in the immediate future, CLG will no doubt be making the news again once their roster is filled.

This is probably just like what happened to Maikelele. Good player, but the in game comms and talk were too hyped and loud, too eccentric for the team so they ultimately cut him. Some people hate that shit, they think its counterproductive and annoying. Some players make it work. Nevertheless they're losing one of the best awpers NA. Not sure if it was the right call and whether or not this could've been internally resolved. We'll see what happens.

I guess he is somewhat of an exception really. For most teams to be at the top it requires their IGL to kill shit aswell. I think TSM is quite the example. I've also seen Xizt do better and better and the same goes Ex6tenz. However I don't watch every single game so I don't think my opinion is worth too much. However going by this OP's post everyone should just kick their IGL since they're in most cases the worst player.

Kind of surprising that they would remove ptr. I'm not saying he was the reason for their success, but when he joined the team they suddenly started to outplay a lot of the other teams in NA. Sometimes a single player makes more of an impact on a team than they may realize. That said, the team's likely potential is probably at its peak. FNS probably won't improve, and both hazed and cutler are pretty much as good as they'll get. So…here's to seeing what happens with CLG from now on I guess.

The thing is CLG didn't start being consistent until the PTR pick up. I don't know why, but I wouldn't be surprised to see their form drop even with a possibly superior pick up. Shahzam has always been streaky, but I'd be surprised if they picked him up.

They need an AWPer to replace him. I doubt Hiko will replace him. Shazam maybe, after his dismal performances online and the last few LANs, I doubt CLG want him. Too bad skadoodle got picked up. the PTR/CLG split is stupid on both sides. I feel like this was retaliation for PTR trying out for c9, but who are CLG going to bring in? they have always been a team with a need for awp picks and solid rifle play.
