ESWC Masters updates

As the days go by we get one step closer to this year’s ESWC Masters. The event will be an extra opportunity for teams to qualify for the grand finals in San Jose late August.

Fresh news regarding ESWC Masters has been announced. The event will as earlier mention, be a new addition to ESWC this year. Quite a few countries do not have their national qualification this year. Therefore ESWC Masters will be a opportunity for those teams that failed to qualify trough their national qualification or simply didn’t have any, to qualify for the grand finals.

The event will start off in a group stage with four groups with each five teams. Top two in each group will advance to the playoffs, being played single elimination and best of one map. This is a bit untraditional from the tournament-structure ESWC used earlier on (single elimination best of three). This means the teams advancing to the brackets will really have to play their a-game, if they want to play for one of three spots for ESWC grand finals.

The map pool this year will consist of five maps. Last year ESWC announced that the 2008 season would use de_tuscan as the fifth map in the pool. The map is mostly known from ESL EPS leagues, which especially favors the Germans on this map.

So far there are only listed eightteen participants for ESWC Masters on ESWC’s homepage, but a total of twenty teams should be attending the event. The eighteen participants signed up are:

Hope the tournament structure wont fuck-up the chances for mTw to qualify. ESWC Masters will be really exciting to follow, as always all the great teams attends.

what did you think of that could stop mtw? bad group in the beginning or what? btw.. do you know if there is a single or double elimination bracket?

That too but one loss in the bracket and you are out. Just going to quote myself here. Top two in each group will advance to the playoffs, being played single elimination and best of one map.

Yep, quite a shame, never liked the French scene and the French teams anyway, too much agressivity and disrespect : o I hope they will get completely crushed if they meet mTw but I'm quite confident as they beat d4 and aAa very easily @ WGT.

Fat chance, they've never won against mYm on LAN. On the other hand I'll be happy if the place top 3, just to secure spot in ESWC as this is their only chance. They missed ESWC qualifications because of KODE5.

3rd at dreamhack winter, 1st at kode5.de, 3rd at SEC 2008 and 1st at GA2k8 (which is the biggest french lan even, kinda like the french dreamhack), 1st at eps.fr and im missing 6 other french lan where they did top1 for 4 of those and top2 for the rest, and only 1 french lan this year where they didn't do top3. Thats some baaaaad results. (wanted to reply at #14)

MYM would be fond of the fact fnatic meeting mtw, and then fighting with them, as they said the mtw playing style fits their strategy and its just a piece of cake. Hope fnatic will toss a coin choosing bad side ;-)

Wow, lol. People give a lot of credit after his movie spread around, huh? We've known about him for a long time in the states, and he definitely is a very good player. Although, it seems like people hype players too much from movies. So many of the top players from pro teams have frags/rounds in their career that could be put into an amazing movie. I want to see EG, mTw, and SK all do good. :D
