Info about World Ch'ships released

E-frag.net has released the qualifying information and the prize distribution for the World Championships 2015.

A total of 79 national teams will be competing in the first edition of the World Championship, which will kick off with regional tournaments leading up to the offline finals, scheduled for October 8-11 at Sava Centar, in Belgrade.

Sixteen teams will be duking it out in the Serbian capital for the lion's share of the $100,000 prize purse, with half of the participating teams coming from Europe. The remaining slots will be allocated to Asia (three), North America (two), Africa, Oceania and South America (one each).

The offline finals will see the 16 nations being split into four groups of four teams. After the end of the group stage, which will use a best-of-three GSL format, the top two sides from each group will advance to the single-elimination playoffs.

Below you can find the qualifying details of all regions:

  • Oceania: Two teams will play three best-of-three matches to determine who qualifies for the global finals.
  • Africa: Six teams will compete in a best-of-three round-robin group stage, with the winner qualifying for the offline event.
  • Asia: Fourteen teams will be drawn into four groups, two of them with four teams and two with three teams. The group winners will advance to a second group stage to determine the three nations who will qualify for the offline event.
  • North America: Three nations will face each other twice in a round-robin best-of-three stage. The top two will qualify.
  • South America: Nine teams will be drawn into three groups, with the winners progressing to a second group stage, from which the top team will secure a place in Belgrade.
  • Europe: The qualifier will begin with a preliminary round with 18 teams. The nine winners will move on to round two, in which they will be joined by 15 other teams. The 12 winners will be joined by 12 seeded nations in a group stage featuring four groups of six teams. The top four teams from each group will move on to the Round of 16, which will determine the eight nations that will book places in Belgrade.

The $100,000 prize purse will be distributed between the top nations as follows:

1. $50,000
2. $25,000
3. $10,000
4. $5,000
5-8. $2,500

1. $50,000
2. $25,000
3. $10,000
4. $5,000
5-8. $2,500

They'd beat most, but probably make it no further than the semi-final, and possibly the final. Even if they made the final, they'd meet Sweden and get beat on bad. Fnatic was almost always their kryptonite.

Well, I don't know about World Chs teams but they weren't a tier 1 team and all of the current tier 1 teams would beat them. Obviously upsets happen, I wouldn't be surprised if they beat Titan or such, but yeah.. iBP is still EU tier 2. And teams like G2, F3 or other stronger t2 teams would probably beat them too.

Valve or someone important said they were going to open some servers at Peru, but I haven't heard anything about it from while ago. Maybe they can open something in Colombia or Peru just for the tournament. I hope they figure it out.

SouthAmerica 1/9 teams, North America 2/3, Asia 3/14, Oceania 1/2... we have the 11% of chance of qualify, the lowest of the whole world... hahahahaa and then KeyD stars go to USA and rape them... SouthAmerican level is higher than NA rigth Now... and you still sous-estimer our region (TWC Staff i mean)

It's difficult to really say that the SA scene as a whole is bigger and more developed than the NA scene. I don't think there is a good argument for that. However, there is a possibility, depending on performances of teams that for future renditions these slots will change just like they do in other tournaments.

I think there is no problem with the number slots keeping in mind that this is the first time SA countries are called to participate. It will be a good first experience for everyone. Also, I agree that there is no real argument to say that SA scene is bigger or better than NA when there is no SA scene at all. Argentina and Brazil (maybe Colombia too) might have some local tournaments, but there is no SA scene as a whole thing. I mean, games like CS:GO are prohibited by the law in Venezuela!

Why so? It's up to each country to gather their best line-up, then there are limited slots by continent, so each country face each other to get a slot. Nothing surprising about that.

They should do the same thing as in Oceania and give them only 1 slot tbh. 3 teams to 2 spots seem rather unbalanced considering the number of teams in Asia(14 to 3 spots) and SA (9 to 1 spot)

If they want to participate, that's their right. I'm pretty sure they don't have any false illusions, they just want to compete. It's like not letting small countries compete in the olympics because "they're not going to get any medal anyway": it doesn't make sense.

No, this is the world championships, it's not the real line-ups who will be playing, because players can only represent their own country. Just like the world cup in football if you want a comparison.

It's ridiculous how NA with 3 nations gets 2 spots, and SA with 9 gets just one

The remaining slots will be allocated to Asia (three), North America (two), Africa, Oceania and South America (one each).

I have no idea what the scene in Asia is like, but Oceania likely Australia, Brazil for SA, USA and Canada for NA, Algeria (?) for Africa, and Sweden, France, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Norway, Denmark, and... Turkey? To the final 8: Sweden, France, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Norway, USA, Australia To final 4: Sweden, France, Poland, ... probably Ukraine. Final: Sweden, Poland (?)

Comparing single countries isn't relevant at all man, we're talking about continents here. Europe, North America, Africa... You know continents? Finland didn't get any spots, Europe did. EU>Rest of the World Also Russia>Argentina Finland>South Africa Portugal>Chile
