Gfinity Summer Masters I with $80k

Gfinity have increased the prizemoney for the first Summer Masters by $30,000 to $80,000 overall and changed the tournament system slightly, most importantly reduced the number of teams to eight.

Originally, at the end of 2014, Gfinity announced their 2015 Masters tournaments with only $20,000 prizemmoney in each of the events, but that only lasted for a couple of weeks and it got boosted to $50,000.

Now, two tournaments in, only a few days after fnatic won Spring Masters 2, Gfinity once again upped the prizepool by $30,000 to $80,000 in total for the following event, Summer Masters 1.

Gfinity events undergo a substantial boost in prizemoney

That is scheduled to take place on the weekend of June 27-28, but this time only eight teams will get to be in the competition, starting off with a GSL system in a best-of-three group stage, as opposed to ten with a best-of-two round robin.

With this change in place, the prizemoney will be divided as follows:

1. $40,000
2. $20,000
3-4. $5,000
5-8. $2,500

The playoff format stays the same, semi-finals will be played in a best-of-three, while the final will once again feature a best-of-five, which is getting picked up by more and more organizers.

It also means that Gfinity Summer Masters I exceeded most events' prizepools, which are as of now announced for 2015, excluding ESL ESEA Pro League Finals ($500,000), CEVO Professional Season 7 Finals ($135,000+), ESL One Cologne ($250,000) and World Championships ($100,000).

It wasn't their fault when Valve decides to update minutes before matches were about to start.

Until and unless Gfinity sorts out its scheduling mess, a better prize pool means nothing. I don't give a fuck how tough you are but some team will have to slog through a best of 3 semi-final which will hopefully go down to the wire and then go through a best of 5 grand final back to back resulting in a 3-0 steamroll for the other team that catches a break.
