ESWC format, prizes revealed

The ESWC organisers have revealed the format and prize distribution for this year's world finals.

After five consecutive events in France, the ESWC returns to North America, this time with an event in Montreal, Canada, from July 10-12, that will be held as part of the Mondial des Jeux Loto Québec and Just for Laughs Festival.

Sixteen teams from all over the world will be competing in the male CS:GO tournament, which will have $75,000 up for grabs. A further $75,000 will also be distributed among the participating teams in the form of travel support.

The 2015 ESWC champion will take home $30,000

The tournament will see the 16 participants split into four groups of four, with each team facing one another in a best-of-one, round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will then move on to the single-elimination, best-of-three playoffs.

Below you can find the complete prize distribution for the tournament:

1. $30,000
2. $15,000
3/4. $8,000
5/8. $3,500

1. $30,000
2. $15,000
3-4. $8,000
5-8. $3,500

ESWC 2015 provisional schedule:

  • Friday, July 10 - Group stage
  • Saturday, July 11 - Quarter-finals
  • Sunday, July 12 - Semi-finals and final

Then again, only european teams attend, doesnt cost much to go there. This time they have to go to Canada. See the difference?

Decent prize pool considering that just as much cash has been given for travel expenses. Most interesting will definitely be to see the teams we normally do not see compete.

Dreamhack organizes 6 tournaments this year that have a prize pool of 40k$ each and then they top it off with a 250k$ major at the end of the year. Perspective enough for ya?

Travel money is not an issue with fnatic players... they have an org and no one is paying out of pocket. Huge difference between traveling 10 minutes and 10 hours. Plus, flying and jet lag fucking suck. Resting for a major is not a bad choice, honestly.

A lot of teams are just pulling out because they are playing like 7 days of cs for the past 3 weeks.

People are fucking idiots... If they just won 20k they probably didn't pull out because this one only has 30k for the winner.

Why are so many so negative to this event? Yeah, fnatic,vp,tsm are not attending, which sucks, but it's Still a lot of good teams, and it's not often you get to see a tournament with teams from all continents.. The prizepool is also fiine, considering they also pay 75k in travel support. I think it will be an awesome event. I have a feeling keyd can surprise with fnatic/tsm not attending.

Well the prizemoney is kinda low for such a major tournament..even sltv prize pool is almost the same and they host tournaments like every few months. No wonder teams pull out of this, probably won't even cover the trip expenses except 1st place (unless orgs cover it themselves?) Edit: oh I see now that they do have travel support
