Counter Logic Gaming have pulled off the unthinkable upset versus fnatic with a 16-12 (6-9, 10-3) scoreline on de_mirage at ESL ESEA Pro League Season 1 Finals.

fnatic started their opener at the $250,000 ESL ESEA Pro League Season 1 Finals as well as one might expect, going up 6-1 on de_mirage against CLG as counter-terrorists.

Problems started soon after, and though Freddy "⁠KRIMZ⁠" Johansson and Olof "⁠olofmeister⁠" Kajbjer secured the Black and Orange a few clutch rounds, they half a measly 9-6 lead at half.


CLG pull off the unthinkable 

After winning the second half pistol round as well, CLG did not repeat the mistake of losing a second round buy, and racked up seven rounds straight to go up 13-9 before fnatic replied.

With Jesper "⁠JW⁠" Wecksell leading the way, fnatic got back to 13-13 before suffering a few round losses, leading to a surprising 16-13 win by CLG, led by James "⁠hazed⁠" Cobb.

This match really shows how damn important mid control is on mirage. CLG used alot of nades just to gain control of it and get into 1on1 fights with the fnatic players that always seemed contend on pushing into the CLG players. Had the fnatic players instead backed and played more defensively they would have faced a CLG team that had few nades left to actually take and hold a site. Normally when we have seen CLG play vs the european teams they have also had some aim-wise bad performances from Cutler and FNS, but these guys really stepped it up and won alot of the duels to secure the early man advantage and of course hazed in the second half of the game - who only really got punished once or twice for going offensive in mid. fnatic in general looked out of sync and it was a much better team effort from the CLG side.

Great to see the NA teams winning some matches here. We need the NA scene for the greater good of GO to grow and be more global and get even bigger events. Was nice back in the days when we had top level teams from all over the world, need the asians to pick up the axe aswell and try and compete. And no, I'm not saying NA is at the same level yet as the EU teams. But I hope this is where it all starts and the NA scene can start to compete with EU. Too early to tell but I really hope for a better mix of teams to win events and not just the obvious teams.
