CLG surprise Keyd Stars; to semis

CLG become the second team to advance straight into the semifinals of the ESL ESEA Pro League, defeating Keyd Stars 16-9 on de_cache.

The second winner's match of the group stages pitted two teams from the Americas versus each other: the Canadian-American CLG and the Brazilian Keyd Stars. Both teams earned their place in the winner's match by each defeating what may be considered by some as the top two teams in the world (fnatic and TSM respectively).

Keyd Stars set the pace of the game by winning their CT pistol round and converting the ensuing rounds as well. CLG finally picked up a round of their own on the fifth round, putting Keyd onto a force buy.

CLG came prepared to the ESL ESEA Pro League finals

Keyd Stars continued to go up to a score of 7-1 however CLG finally began to pick up the slack, with team fragger Tarik "⁠tarik⁠" Celik in particular warming up well as the half went on. Keyd Stars finished their CT half up only by a round, 8-7.

CLG turned up the heat—in particular thanks to the efforts of Stephen "⁠reltuC⁠" Cutler—to an insane degree on their CT half, going up 9-1 to close out the game 16-9 on de_cache.

Keyd Stars will have to face the winner of the TSM vs. fnatic match in the quarter-finals tomorrow, whereas CLG join Virtus.pro as the two teams who have managed to move straight into the semifinals, giving them a day off as the semis occur on Saturday.

Not a surprise Keyd losing on cache. They droped a game against the fucking METHOD on this map. Even my pug team can defeat keyd on cache. Fallen nobrainer by not banning this map. Dumb!

There are no quarters in this tournament format. Keyd win vs TSM means nothing if they lose their next game vs TSM/fnatic.

Keyd win vs TSM means they will not stand at 7th/8th. so + money, so in the end beat TSM means something.

The groupstage isnt over. I guess the teams who went out in firstplace will get less money i suppose, no idea how the monetary part of the tournament is design to be, but the win over TSM doesnt mean getting into "quarters", it only means not being the first team out of the group.

There are no quarters what are you talking about? As far as i know the tournament format is the same used in the last... 2 events, 2 wins you go to semis, 2 losses your out, 1 win 1 loss teams play for the second place in the group. TSM/fnatic will play keyds to define the second semi-finalist. I guess technically that would be quarters, but in reality is just part of the groupstage still.

You are talking like your team is fnatic, TSM or nv. No bad feelings but KeyD has to prove a lot more to talk like that. CLG play excellent against fnatic on their best map, nothing wrong to beat KeyD when they lost minimum 5~ stupid rounds.

I always knew it.

Was listening to clgs voice chat and they sounded well organized and really composed. For me they're currently the best NA team and it wouldnt surprise me one bit if they made it right to the finals.
