Group stage over in Montreal

Day one has been played out, as we see Na`Vi and EnVyUs topping groups C and D, with SK and Renegades lagging behind in second places, respectively.

The second half of the day at ESWC started off with three one-sided matches, where all favourites prevailed, as EnVyUs, Natus Vincere and Titan got their first wins in Montreal.

Renegades had the only tough match against CLG, who went up 10-5 as Terrorists on de_cache, but were unable to close it out due the Australians' comeback after taking a tactical timeout.

Titan leave ESWC with another disappointing performance

Natus Vincere had no trouble disposing of Titan afterwards, who took a 2-16 beating on de_mirage and ended up fighting for the second playoff spot in group C versus SK Gaming. Titan left a tournament after another group stage disappointment following a one-sided de_cbble.

By that time Na`Vi had already secured a top spot in group C and their Luminosity match meant nothing at all, while CLG fought EnVyUs to have a chance to stay in the tournament.

Tarik "tarik" Celik's squad was unable to repeat their MLG Aspen upset against the lineup representing LDLC back then, letting Renegades advance from second place.

Group C Group D
1. Null element Na`Vi  3 0     1. France EnVyUs 3 0
2. Denmark SK 2 1 2. Australia Renegades 2 1
3. France Titan 1 2 3. United States CLG 1 2
4. United States Luminosity  0 3 4. South Africa Bravado 0 3

Tomorrow's quarter-finals schedule looks as follows:

16:00 United States Cloud9 vs. United States Liquid
18:30 France EnVyUs vs. Denmark SK
21:00 Sweden NiP vs. Ukraine FlipSid3
23:30 Null element Na`Vi vs. Australia Renegades

Note that from the second quarter-final on the games will start as soon as possible after previous matches end, times mentioned above only serve as an estimate.

You are probably right because semis will probably be cloud9 vs envy na'vi vs nip Though NiP haven't defeated the current na'vi roster yet on lan, and c9 read envy pretty good at esl esea so maybe we will see a cloud9 vs na'vi finale

But... nV look whole lot different in this tournament... kinda like the old LDLC days where they didnt made huge mistakes etc! Time will tell surely but i dont see c9 disturbing the peace yet again! But still i do think c9 and navi have the highest chance of winning this event

Na'Vi still needs to get past NIP which is going to be tough. But they could pull it off. I didn't get to see any of their matches so I don't know how well they are playing.

True but liquid being as bad as they are vs euros are still a good domestic matchup against c9 as pointed out in lurrpis's latest article. Like a mini titan vs envy. I dont agree when you say free pass for c9.

Well the game wasn't played yet when I wrote that, and on paper Liquid was the easiest opponent for C9, considering how often they get to play each other and Liquid being the weakest team together with SK in the play offs.

They topped their group. Its how the tournament is set up. Most tournaments are set up like that so top a plays 2nd b and top c plays 2nd d. They would've had to play NIP if NIP placed 2nd in their group... K?

NaVi and NiP should get through without too much difficulty. SK is looking pretty good, but I doubt they have the depth EnvyUs does, so EnvyUs should nab that. Liquid has beaten Cloud9 recently in a B03 so that might be the least certain outcome. If they do get through, they face the unenviable task of taking on what will likely be either NiP or NaVi in the semifinals.

obv i want navi to win more because renegades have nothing to lose and everything to win while navi have nothing to win and everything to lose. making it to quarter finals is good enough for renegades, would be nice if they had a close game with navi but i dont want them to knock navi out, because for navi to lose on quarter finals would be just an embarrassment

The are improving a lot, but let's not get carried away :) They'll be able to do the occasional upset from time to time, but I think it'll take a long time before they'll be a top team with the current roster - if ever.
