Cloud9: "Our map-pool is not weak"

We also had a chance to catch-up with two Cloud9 players, Jordan 'n0thing' Gilbert and Ryan 'fREAKAZOiD' Abadir, to talk with them about the North American team's prospects going forward.

Cloud9 were not able to close out the grand finals of ESWC 2015 in the home continent's favour, and that honour went to the skill-heavy and at times clinically precise Na`Vi lineup.

However, the team did have the distinction of taking another elite European squad down to the wire in a grand final series (following the eerily parallel series with fnatic in Cologne last weekend).

HLTV.org took aside Jordan "⁠n0thing⁠" Gilbert (who played an incredibly strong and dynamic series despite being ill) and Ryan "⁠freakazoid⁠" Abadir for a chat about public perceptions of the North American team and many other topics.

Which is kinda the thing. The only tier1 team they have beat in a bo3 so far is nV. Lost to Na'Vi, Fnatic and VP. And we now know nV was in a bad shape, so it is going to be interesting to see if they can pull it off against other teams.

Lol. If this was an EU team you wouldn't be saying this. But a North American team could never be good. How much do they have to win? BTW you can say nV is in bad shape but if you look at their results in the last month it looks pretty good. Everyone Thinks they are in bad shape cuz an NA team has been wrecking them. nV is playing worse and worse since the beggining of the year. These guys on 2014 under the LDLC banner were probably the best team on CSGO, only Fnatic could beat them. Now they are losing a lot of matches even against a lot of worst teams than C9. nV isn't as half as strong than LDLC even with the same players. I can say C9 had a great tournament and improved a lot because they played really well against Na'Vi on 2nd and 3rd map (same on ESL where they showed some good stuff against Fnatic), but not because they defeated nV.

"Only" That's still 1 map too much since they will always be 1 map down in a bo3. Every t1 team has 1 weak map besides from C9. NiP bans overpass / train (becomes of which opponent they are up against) VP doesn't play d2 a lot TSM doesn't play cobble na'vi doesn't play cache nv doesn't play mirage (Which is why c9 are favoured against them. They can just ban inferno and both teams will just hope that mirage wont be third map.) fnatic plays every map and bans the opponents best map. So yes, they are considered to have a weak map pool. Na'Vi was always considered to have a weak map pool before nuke was banned as well since they didn't play both nuke and cache at that point.

It took them some lineupchanges and nearly half a year before someone finally said; "Hey gaise, our inferno isnt that good." But on the brightside its really awesome that these guys are bringing it to the euros already. Couple of more months and they will be a regular dark horse where ever they attend.

? Dark horse? lol in 2 tourneys they got to 2 finals, if they "will become" a darkhorse then I dunno what your definition of darkhorse is but it is not winning Tournaments on a consistent basis. Because ppl have not realised that they are good, it is not a fluke when you fucking go to the distance on 3 maps vs top4 eu teams 3 times. They were not raped once, except a map that they are terrible at : Inferno. I have great hopes for this team, they have a group of solid players who can go big at any given time.

A dark horse in my book is a team that can win a tournament, but is by no means a favorite. Props to c9 for doing so great the last two tourneys, but they still havent clashed against TSM or VP, two teams I rank over Navi.

when they had swag in their lineup, they did beat some "top" teams on it. So after that they thought "hey we are good on inferno". Ever since swag left, they suck on it and suck on it hard (against EU teams, seems to finally work against NA). And its no secret that NA teams hate mirage. Even iBP did veto it every time. In my eyes it would be a better, for c9, to focus on Mirage and ignore Inferno. You have a top awp in your lineup. He will probably shine a lot more on mirage then inferno.

For a team that looked quite poor on Inferno against Na'vi, Cloud9 has been mopping up NA teams on Inferno. Flamie/Seized (and sometimes Zeus) just had B on lockdown, which C9 exploits heavily against NA teams. I think Mirage would be a better map for C9 since it's quite difficult to AWP on T-side Inferno, and you want to give Skadoodle the Freedom Rifle.

Yeah bc Sean is more of a pronax type of player where he's there for his IGL not his aiming really the guy can be a wizard at times (Not comparing him to pronax just saying he's that type of player) and once C9 IMO learn Mirage and inferno better they can have a good shot at some of the T1 teams but Sean is there for his strats C9 wouldn't be where they are without him just like IMO Fnatic would still be beast but not anywhere near as consistent without pronax

I'm not so sure. Their CT side of Inferno is actually pretty good, it's just their T side that needs a lot of work. I'm really hopeful they work on Mirage, though. They're stronger on that than Inferno and closer to being able to match stronger teams on.

I don't agree. their CT side leaves a lot to be desired on inferno. Their T side is poor on that map, but the CT side isn't much better tbh. It definitely isn't as good as the teams they pick the map against, and when your T side is that bad you can't rely on a mediocre CT to run a 12-3 game all the way back.

I didn't really know much about freakazoid when he joined c9, but he really seemed cocky and immature to me. Now having seen some of these interviews and whatnot with him, I really started to like him and his attitude towards the whole thing about playing on a pro level. Other than that he seems to be improving a lot, just as the rest of c9. They are a really promising team imo.

They are competitive against the best in the world on 5/7 maps. That's pretty good.

Inferno is easiest map to play on CT side imo (no Nuke here xD). I dont know why C9 couldn't play on this map,atleast on decent level :|

The only map I see that needs tons of work is Inferno. They have been destroyed on that map way too often. Luckily they should be able to fix that. So much info on how each team plays it. Honestly they just need to demo some of the better players at their spots.
