Nihilum release CS:GO team

Nihilum Gaming have announced that they have parted ways with their CS:GO team with immediate effect.

Nihilum ventured into competitive Counter-Strike in April when they secured the services of Denial's team, one of the most promising rosters in North America.

Weeks later, the Sweden-based organisation, who have their roots in World of Warcraft, caught headlines when they landed former Cloud9 duo Spencer "⁠Hiko⁠" Martin and Kory "⁠SEMPHIS⁠" Friesen during the North American shuffle.

Despite the addition of two high-profile players, the team struggled on the domestic front as they failed to qualify for the offline finals of CEVO Season 7 and the ESL ESEA Pro League.

Hiko & co will stick together

The upcoming qualifier for ESL One Cologne will be the team's chance to silence critics, but the players will not have the support of Nihilum for the event in Burbank as the two parties have agreed to go their separate ways.

A source close to the team has told HLTV.org that the players will stick together and will play under the temporary name of Maximum Effort until a new organisation is found.

Meanwhile, Nihilum have revealed that they have decided to take a step back from the Counter-Strike scene as they will not be signing a new team anytime soon.

Maximum Effort, who have been drawn alongside CLG, Luminosity and eLevate in the group stage of the ESL One Cologne qualifier, have the following roster:

iBP was definitely fucking top 5. Back then TSM had FeTisH so they weren't very good back then, and NaVi only became a top team this year. iBP proved they can beat Titan on LAN at ESEA (+ KQLY VAC), so they were very much #5. NiP T2 was a joke but they aren't that good anymore if they are T1 they are about as T1 as Titan is. CLG is definitely T2. 1 result: upsetting Fnatic and Envyus on LAN. That's enough for them to be T2 considering no one in T3 has done that. Dignitas gets salaried as people below have mentioned.

So you are telling me that NiP is same tier with CLG? NiP can constantly beat teams from T1 and are (even if they are at their worst atm) totally better than Titan. CLG has beaten Fnatic in a one bo1, where did they beat nV? I am sure that teams like Dignitas, Titan, FS3, (with or without s1mple), mouz can beat CLG at any day given. There's no chance CLG'd made top4 in any tier1.5/2 events.

You should understand that there are more teams to fill the T2 spots than T1. T1 might be just 5-10 teams, while T2 can be like up to 20. Just like how there are only a few playing at pro division but plenty down in Master Guardians. When you lower the tiers there are more teams. Let's take a look at NiP's achievements in the past 3 months: FACEIT Stage 1 (2nd) Gfinity Spring Masters II (5th-10th) Dreamhack Summer (3rd-4th) Gfinity Summer Masters I (2nd) ESWC (5th-8th) FACEIT Stage 2 Final (5th-6th) At DHS15 they never beat a single T1 team, same goes for Gfinity 1. Their only recent achievement worthy of mention is FaceIt Stage 1 Finals, which was almost 3 months ago. If you think NiP is still T1 after all this you're clearly a fanboy. CLG beat EnVy in the beginning of the year, just shows me that you don't follow CS.

1.) We don't need to count that, CLG still took a map off of fnatic and beat KeyD, and hold themselves top 3 NA, no teams in T3 have done that, it's fair to say they are top 15 in T2. They don't upset T2 teams, they upset T1 teams AND consistently beat T2 teams. 2.) Because not every top 10 team every tournament, if this is really your argument it sure as hell is a weak one. So CLG has beaten many tier2 teams on LAN with their current lineup? Which teams excatly? Yeah sure they took a map off from fnatic, but hell, Tempo Storm took one from NaVi. Means basically nothing. And I agree, they're top15 in tier2. Too bad I just cant see theres 25-30 teams in tier1+tier2. ATM we have like 7teams in t1 and 10-13 in t2.

The thing is, CLG never get matched with T2 teams on LAN outside of Americans, so you have to understand that they consistently beat teams such as Tempo and Liquid, and put up fights against C9 and KeyD. You can only account for what CLG has done on LAN against T1 teams, and while it may not be accurate as CLG might lose to, say SK Gaming, in a bo5 series, you can only base results off of what they achieved. I'm not a CLG fan, actually I somewhat dislike CLG for their immature LAN behavior and their failure to improve after showing a flash of potential leading to the major.

The fact that they aren't doing so well lately is most likely due to a lack of form and perhaps some internal problems. I can tell you're a blind fanboy who, after failing to prove his point, decides to throw out ad hominem insults in order to attempt to make his point clear. The last time NiP beat ANY T1 team was in May in FaceIt Stage 1 Finals. A slump, fine, but when you slump you don't fuck up more than 2 LANs in a row max. NiP fucked up about 4. And the 1 LAN they didn't fuck up was Gfinity Masters 1, in which they got paired with a weak mousesports and SK. In the end, they have done nothing to put themselves into T1 place in the past few months.

A couple of months is a LOT of time in CS:GO. 3 years in car history would be a fair equivalent since no car company pumps out a new model every other week. In those same couple of months, NaVi and TSM rose to prominence, and EnVy and VP dropped. NiP was on a steady downhill climb from after the major. They have skilled players, but if you can't get anything with your skilled players then your team is not good and is Tier 2. My tier bullshit? This post pretty much revealed the fanboy inside you, "they have good players, only a couple of months of downtime, they are still T1," opinionated, based on the past, and something a typical fanboy would use in an argument when he's run out of evidence. +1 there simply isnt any top team free for pickup. EG surely has money as fuck but buying a topteam out of contracts is way to much money even for EG. eyKeyD is top 15 and thats quite ok? We always talk about topteams only, but CSGO has to go bigger guys. In DotA you have 30-40 professional Teams while in CSGO we have 10 probably... They picked up two players, and replaced their best players. Neither semphis or Hiko are top in the country never mind on the world stage. Hiko is massively over rated, and more interested in his streaming sponsors and possibilities.

They may not be top in the country, but they are pretty darned good. During the ESL ESEA league concluded a few weeks ago, Semphis and Fer were the top two fraggers. Hiko was 4th I believe. That tells me that since Nihilum didn't make the LAN that the 3 players behind them weren't picking up frags, but it also testifies to their value. At no point is Hiko worst than 5th from a statistical point of view, and Semphis surprised many with his fragging ability once off Cloud9 and on Nihilum.
