Virtus.pro triumph over TSM

Virtus.pro come out victorious at ESL ESEA Dubai Invitational after a nail-biting finish to a 3-2 series (de_overpass 13-16, de_train 16-7, de_dust2 3-16, de_cbble 16-7, de_mirage 16-14), taking $100,000 home, leaving TSM second with $60,000.

de_overpass was chosen by TSM to start the ESL ESEA Dubai Invitational grand final, and the Danes quickly got an edge with a flying 4-1 start as Counter-Terrorists, despite losing the first anti-eco.

Virtus.pro found a dent in TSM's defense at B, as in three of the following four attacks went that way with great success, and soon the score was equal at five all. As Paweł "byali" Bieliński was unable to turn a 1-on-2 into another round, TSM took the lead back and didn't stop afterwards to set the dhalftime score at a comfortable 10-5.

Another pistol round followed up by Virtus.pro's duel wins in the failed anti-eco by TSM afterwards resulted into Virtus.pro having a little room to breathe. That statement soon turned untrue, when the Danish side took three in a row after a Tec-9-powered forcebuy victory for 14-7.

Jarosław "pashaBiceps" Jarząbkowski then saved the day with a triple spraydown towards long, stopping TSM's attack, only for their opponents to take map point, and six at that, after another A attempt, that time successful.

Virtus.pro managed to delay for a few more rounds with a switch to agressive mode, as well as byali's 1-on-1 triumph, but they ended up being just short of a successful comeback at 16-13.

Everyone from TSM turned up for the first map

de_train was set to be map two of the grand final, picked by Virtus.pro naturally, who also got to the better start on the CT side, as TSM couldn't defend the Poles' retakes on the B bombsite after quickly swarming it twice in a row.

Off of Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth's and Nicolai "device" Reedtz's clutch plays, 1-on-1 and 1-on-2, their team picked up three rounds in a row. Virtus.pro started racking up bank afterwards though, thanks to clean defenses on both sites for an eventual 8-3, after Finn "karrigan" Andersen was unable to convert another clutch for a round.

Finally a quick attack towards the B bombsite got TSM back on the board for a fourth round, just for VP to take control again and finalize the half happily with a 11-4 scoreline.

A nearly copied B attack from Virtus.pro on the Terrorists side was met with a solid retake, but the following two anti-ecos/forcebuys were very costly for them, as both ended up in 1-on-1's. That meant Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski's triple on A broke his opponents' economy and soon after Filip "NEO" Kubski's 1-on-1 towards the end, we saw TSM losing de_train for the first time on LAN at 16-7.

de_dust2 followed and it was the team which picked the map, TSM on the CT side, to start off the better when VP weren't able to break into the B site from upper dark. Two anti-ecos and a solid retake passed and the Danish side was up 4-0 before VP took one in return.

From there it was back to TSM's reign over the defense, time and time again Virtus.pro's attempts everywhere on the map weren't enough to convert into a round win until it was 10-1.

There was a good reason for Snax to smile after Train, much less so during Dust2

A triple AWP attempt from Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas and company backfired horribly, but eventually two rounds got through for his side, but TSM was still happy to switch over with very comfortable 12 rounds on the defense.

A very Virtus.pro-esque attempt of agression in the second pistol was crushed to bits and pieces. Not much more than "another one bites de_dust" could've been said when duo Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen-device each passed 20 frags at 15-3, soon converted into 16-3 as none of VP's forcebuys worked.

Going over to de_cbble, the trend of map pickers winning initial pistol rounds continued. The duo of legend, TaZ and NEO combined with two doubles and a knife kill to make it 3-0 even when TSM tried to forcebuy after putting the bomb down.

A misplay on VP's side saw dupreeh and company force their way through solo defenders on the A site, and four more rounds went their way from the following five, partially thanks to device's triple in one of the crucial clutch rounds. From there on it was a Polish show up until the very last round of the half for 9-6.

TaZ's triple in the second pistol, plus a round where everyone from his team died, but still won the round, put VP up on 14-6, at which point nearly everything was decided. Snax continued with his stellar plays, and TSM failed to adapt to the Virtus plow on the B bombsite.

When they did, it was all too little too late, as they only picked up a single round throughout the entire round and that meant it went down to the wire to map five, de_mirage.

Xyp9x's miraculous turnaround wasn't enough for TSM to complete the comeback

TaZ's kitchen heroics in a B retake in the second pistol were crucial for VP to take the first pistol on the final map, and they also had little to no problems converting that to a 3-0. karrigan's Tec-9 triple then helped TSM lower the deficit to one round before VP set up for a double AWP.

That got them two entries in the following gunround, which TSM responded to with two successive B pushes, which were exchanged between the teams for a 5-3 score in favor of the Poles.

TSM couldn't deal with the AWPs in Virtus.pro's hands at all, as all of Snax, NEO and pashaBiceps, kept getting entries wherever the Danish side went, putting their side up 12-3 at halftime.

dupreeh's crucial double in the second pistol saved TSM from the otherwise inevitable, and solo kills from them in the first gunround helped them get within four rounds from Virtus.pro. Then pashaBiceps snuck from behind to widen the gap to five before TSM brought it back again.

Virtus.pro were in a similar situation to TSM when they were on the Terrorists side, nothing had worked for them up until it was all tied up at 13-13, when karrigan died in a crucial opening. Xyp9x's miraculous quad-kill saved the round for his team, but another opening in the following round tied it at 14 all again. It looked like Virtus.pro found a way through TSM's defense in the end though, as both remaining rounds went their way as in the last, dupreeh's team had no money for a chance at an overtime.

Talking best finals and why he as a 1.6 player has a hard time saying anything is better than what we have already seen. That is the best map played ever in a final and hence a reason for not saying a final like this was better.

How hard can it be to understand something so simple. He (^ This) is saying that its hard for him to say that any final is really interesting when he comes from 1.6. That is not surprising when he has seen finals like the one I have posted. You asked him why that is and got a responds from him and from me on that subject. We are used to closer finals, because in 1.6 the teams, as a general, had more experience and therefore also played closer matches.

God damn you're stupid.... and I am sorry to say so, because you really test my patience or more precisely put, my lack of patience when it comes to something this simple. It was to point out that having watched a game like that, then it makes a final like this less interesting. That's like the third time I am writing this and absolutely last.

Dude, I know that you (and he) meant that having watched some very exciting finals in the past, CSGO finals don't seem that amazing. Now, what YOU don't understand, is that my original comment was NOT a question and I was merely pointing out that to every final might be "best" to someone, because they haven't seen too many of them. P.S. I never said I was smart, I know I'm stupid.

+1. sadly their age and exp show in the last 3 rounds(TSM) . an neo/taz shows why they won oo many big title over the years. gotta love the way snax brain works no mather the standings. if only device an dupreeh didnt play soo bad ALWAYS when it mathers.

dupreeh just had a bad lan, usually it's dev1ce and cajunb who choke(usually) and also usually aswell they choke at the same time which results in tsm losing the game.

But not the most importat frags, he can have 1000 frags, if he cant shot ppl an make smart plays when games are won in the crucial rounds, TSM will lose finals. like they did today. an semifinals like they did every frekin major, largely cuz Dupreeh an Device are rly bad in the important matches, think they are way to nervous. look at karrigan an xyp. they almost always step up in the important rounds/games compared to normal games wheres device an dupreeh dont feed of the crowd. they get scared an nervous:(

the first round the lost ct side. was cuz devve made a huge blunder. not checking if somebody entered the site after him being flashed. an my overall point is he just dosent step up in the important rounds an get that 2-3-kill we exxpect of a player of his caliber. he would have gotten the kills if it where at the start of the match. but like i said 1000 times. he chokes when games are won/lost. same as dupreeh. thats the diff from them being a top3 team to being world beaters. but hopefully is will come with age, that he can control his nerves. btw. if u would have watched the game an followed proberly, u woud know what im talking about. him going for exit in the 28th round instead of saving was also one f the most stupid things i ever seen in a grand final.

i can understand fnatic's situation e since they were winning pretty much everything. but TSM won 4-5 bo3s,bo5s against fnatic this year and i thought tsm was the best even they didn't won as many events as fnatic did. such a disappointment. pasha's still BOT but neo's god

TYPICAL TSM CHOKE at the end 14-13 5k+ on 4 guys on ct side. Device simply has to control his nerves an use his brain some more. how can he peak an not hide there an save he had 20 hp!!?? its so sad watching TSM lose many tourneys on personal errors, that can only come down to nerves. from the outside it looks like they drop communication an teamwork the last 3 rounds. ps. VP showed whats the diff between aimkids an men a with brain. WP an GZ to VP. TSM didnt deserve the win with soooo many personal errors. old>young i guess:)

Also because of taxes fnatic get only ~50% of prizes while VP get ~70%. We need to know details of the bet. If we count real prize money to hands VP is top1. The same if we include sticker money.

You're probably right, but the thing is, that they were never good enough to take that big tournament. They allways have some issue. Tbh, I never placed them in top2, due to their major/important tournaments performence. Undoubtly, they are awesome team, but "choke" to strong.

Yes, indeed. But it's almost always like- VP standing against Fnatic in semis, and final is Fnatic wrecking whoever. Ofc I'm biased (at least, but always keep my tits calm), but VP played the worst match against TSM on this tournament. I almost ripped my heart when I saw bans/picks, and the fifth map tbh, was the only map that I fully watched (idk, I thought that when I watch, VP plays bad) I was going to put on my brown pant

You're wrong, becouse in bo5 1st and 3rd map was picked by TSM, and 2nd and 4th by VP, the last was some sort of agreement by both sides. According to bo3, the 3rd map would be some sort of agreement by both sides and then it will decide, not map picked by tsm.

except in a bo3 the last map is out of 3 instead of just 1... so when it becomes a very CT sided map like overpass or train... if you have an unfortunate Terrorist half your bascially fucked out of map when its only first to 2 map wins.

As i said, if it was bo3 it would be 2-1 for VP, becouse 3rd - decider - map will be like 5th in bo5 - picked by nobody. You give TSM advantage becouse u let them pick their map, and completly forgot about 4th map which was picked by VP.

also if u disagree with the CT half thing.. you obviously haven;t watched enough of CS.. so your opinion is completely irrelevant to me, because i've seen top teams lose maps to tier2 teams just because the tier2 team had the best CT half of their life.

Nobody choked. It was a good final and that's it. Not amazing, just good. BO3 could have been more entertaining, to be honest. Some maps were completely one sided and very boring. Some plays on more competitive maps were amazing. Overall, a good final. Congratz to Virtus.pro!

I think there's more pressure because of the fewer maps. Let's face it, VP did very poorly in D2 and TSM did the same in train. Very one sided. It's was a three hour final and that makes it difficult to the keep the pace. A hour and a half is quite enough as long as it has tense rounds (like the ones in mirage, when everything was on the line).

bo5's require a team to be stronger in a bigger map pool, meaning that team is a stronger CS:GO team... i will not be swayed.

True. I agree with that. But top teams, nowadays, aren't strong in the 7 map pool. Each team has maps where they clearly outperform others (VP in train, TSM in D2, fnatic in Inferno), so they can't, realistically, put a good show in every single map. And when you have one of those teams choosing a map where are very good and the other, by chance, needs a lot of work (like in this final) that results in one sided games. Maybe that will change in the future (most likely it will due to increased competitiveness) and BO5's, in that case, will make more sense.

TSM have some serious issues when it comes to closing out games in big events (been apparent since the team was formed). Call them chokers if you like. Can't handle the pressure. VP is strong, they rightfully won!

i still don't know how VP managed to rise up on mirage, it was 13-13 and they lost 5vs2 to make it 13-14 for TSM, and then they won all last 3 rounds to win 16-14

Really awesome matchup and clash of styles, VP deserving for their superior mid control and show they're actually not on the way out. Their style is so hard to deal with, their refusal to give up mid control on maps where its so important had a big influence, great to see them in this zone theyre in. GGVP !
