GeT_RiGhT explains Cloud9 snub

The Swedish veteran had been strongly tipped to join Cloud9 as a replacement for Sean "⁠seang@res⁠" Gares, who announced last month that he was stepping down from the North American team's active roster.

With NiP's contracts due to expire shortly and Cloud9 taking the rest of the year to try out potential recruits, many believed that it would be a matter of time before Christopher "⁠GeT_RiGhT⁠" Alesund committed to the North American side.

Such rumours were quashed by GeT_RiGhT earlier in this month via Twitter, but only now has the 25-year-old commented on this matter in great detail.

On his stream, the Swedish player revealed that at one point there was an agreement in principle with Cloud9, but that the move did not come to fruition due to his commitments with NiP.

"In the Summer, Sean asked me for real if I wanted to join, which I really did because I felt I wanted a change, a new challenge for myself," he said. "I basically said yes on the spot.

"The problem was that I had a contract [with NiP] and I did not want to leave everyone just like that. Besides, I respect the contract that I signed, so I could not leave instantly. That was the issue."

GeT_RiGhT then revealed that, further down the road, Cloud9 reached an agreement with NiP to field him at IEM San Jose and at another NA event (most likely the RGN Pro Series Championship) as a substitute during what was going to be a trial period. Once again, it was not meant to be as the 25-year-old had to attend the FACEIT League Stage 3 Finals with NiP.

"It was already fixed between the organisations," he stated. "I turned it down eventually because we were also qualified for the FACEIT Finals, so we still had tournaments.

"It was almost a reality."
