CG announce disbandment

CG first turned heads when they defeated HellRaisers to qualify for the PGL Regional Minor Championship back in early January (back then the lineup was composed of three Swedish players and two Danes).

The "Cringe Gods" team, who had played "no real PCWs before the qualifier" as HLTV.org learned in an interview with the team's in-game leader Christian "⁠rezex⁠" Bjerregaard, then went into the PGL Regional Minor and lost their opener to E-frag.net and then unexpectedly sent LDLC White home early in the Group A elimination match.

CG then squared off with PENTA in the best-of-three decider match for the semifinals and, after winning the first map 16-6 on de_overpass, the relatively inexperienced team notoriously crumbled on de_cache and de_dust2, losing both maps in overtime despite holding strong leads in both maps.

Despite the blowout, many at the time (including PENTA's Kevin "⁠kRYSTAL⁠" Amend in his HLTV.org interview) expressed their hope in seeing the lineup grow and improve on the result and the experience of attending the PGL Regional Minor.

Such hopes will unfortunately be dashed however as HLTV.org have learned that CG have decided to split apart as a team. The team's in-game leader rezex elaborated on the decision in his statement:

"When it comes down to it, the team was great throughout our time together and we learned a lot from playing, and I don't believe that we had hit our peak. But we just had smaller problems with each other outside and inside of the game and the big factor that the 3 Swedish guys wanted to play in a full Swedish lineup becuase of the language barrier there was," Bjerregaard told HLTV.org.

"It's really sad knowing that we are splitting ways now when we have so much going for us currently and the insane amount of backup that we got from our fans on social media <3.

"We have decided to give the Swedish guys the CEVO Main spot to continue, whereas zehN and I will continue on ESEA Main with the help of our old team while we look for new memebers to fill in the shoes on the team. And they play CEVO Main with their new lineup.

"Overall there is no bad blood and we wish them good luck in their new journeys and hope they do well.

"At the end I want to give a big shoutout to pro players like cadiaN and GeT_RiGhT for showing and believing that we had the potential. That gave us a lot but it's still sad when it crashes and burns at the end. I'm sure we will get our chance at another time."

The three Swedish players on the lineup will therefore be taking part in a new all-Swedish venture, leaving rezex and Jesse "⁠zehN⁠" Linjala to fend for their own.
