TyLoo, Immunity win WCA S1 finals

Much like several other Chinese tournaments slated to take part this year, the WCA 2016 finals offer up $200,000 in total prize-money but before the commencement of this tournament (which is scheduled for December), a total of three seasons will run their course.

Each season features Chinese qualifiers (with three total teams making it to the WCA World finals) and then three distinct geographic qualifiers: Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America (from which six teams ultimately advance, two per qualifier).

This first season was dedicated to the Asia-Pacific region and both the top four finishers of the Chinese qualifier and the Asia-Pacific qualifier travelled to the offline finals in Beijing, China.

Despite severe delays throughout the event and some strange rules about looking at teammates' monitors, the finals eventually got underway and the Chinese bracket saw the two titans of Chinese CS:GO, TYLOO and VG.CyberZen, brush aside their respective semifinal opponents (New4 and EDG).

The grand final was a one-way sweep with YuLun "⁠Summer⁠" Cai and his teammates absolutely demolishing VG.CyberZen across three maps (and with VG's score coincidentally halving each map): 16-8 on Mirage, 16-4 on Dust2, and 16-2 on Cache.

The Asia-Pacific finals meanwhile saw Australian-New Zealander team Immunity take down The MongolZ (widely considered one of Asia's strongest outfits outside of China) 2-0 on their side of the bracket whereas Malaysian team MVP.karnal struggled to close out against Thai team Signature (a rising team in Southeast Asia) 2-1 on their side of the bracket.

Despite the Malaysians getting the better start in the best-of-five grand final against Immunity by winning Cobblestone 16-9, it was ultimately the Ricardo "⁠Rickeh⁠" Mulholland & co. show as the Aussie-Kiwi side closed out the following three maps to win the Asia-Pacific finals: 16-10 on Mirage, 16-13 on Dust2, and 16-3 on Overpass.
